Macrae had 0 CBAs until we lost the lead, he then finally got a chance and he immediately won the clearance that lead to Arty’s goal.

I get that he’s playing injured and in a different role but Macrae needs to attend more than 2 CBAs in a match for a player of his quality and strength, especially after an opposition run of goals.

I can live with him not going in when Smith, Libba and Bont are on the field. Do find it strange when Daniel goes in ahead of him. Think Daniel can be underrated as a stoppage player and he is good at the around the ground ones but I don't like him in the centre bounces. Makes more sense for Macrae to be in those ones and then Daniel comes up to the contest from the forward line.

Did the rounds in the paper a few years back.

He got stuck on the Monash lol
That’s unbelievable that they actually put a line through him only because of that or used it as a reason to decide between the two. Anyway, thank god he ended up with us. I met him just after we drafted him actually at a Bulldogs golf day. He came to the dinner afterwards and sat at my table, him and Cal Porter. He was a quietly spoken kid back then but has blossomed into one of the best half back flankers in the competition now.

Now now. I just can't take it these days. After 58 years of being a Doggies supporter, I think I can be excused for not being able to handle it. At least I went.
Not a criticism at all. The way I read your comment was that because you chose to leave, it's why we won, hence my response. Bless you for supporting our club for 58 years, you help make up the very fabric of this club, and make it rich.

Just Watching had a giggle at this.

We won the clearances, English was better in general play, and the advanced stats support it.

He’s had better games this year but the only support of Pittonet getting the chocolates would be the very shallow “hit out” stat
In fairness, Pittonet had some pretty effective hitouts to advantage, not just meaningless hitouts. I'd give English the chocolates for his work around the ground but it was a good contest.

Dont get me wrong. Im not saying that Curnows success is built upon umpiring largess. He's an absolute freak.

What I am saying is that the umpires have bought into that narrative wholeheartedly.

He seems to get his fair share of what many would consider soft frees especially in marking contests.
He's a ****ing good player agreed, and nowhere near as looked after as McKay

the O'Donnell selection was not great, was never going to be able to impact, but the sub strategy was worse

sat out most of the 3rd quarter if not all, then sub is made 5 mins into the last, we were one player down for 35 minutes.
It was really odd how long it took us to pull what was an obvious move.

One that should've been made once Carlton began to assert midfield dominance through the middle of the ground in the 3rd.

A blind man at the bottom of a coal mine could see that we were way too top heavy at this point and were in desperate need of an extra runner.

Totally agree! My phone nearly got thrown through the TV at least 5 times in that second half.su

Arty Jones and Baz were huge in the last quarter, Libba also was great and our defence lead by Liam Jones was fantastic. English had his worst game of the year by a mile and the midfield got beaten mostly until the very end when they lifted for the last 7 minutes to get the win.

Marra struggling to hold his marks unless he is in the open but have to persist. He gets to so many contests. Just needs to get more strength to hold those..

Great to fight back after we gave up the lead but geez it would be nice for once to bury a team when we have our foot on their throat rather than letting them back into the game
Not sure why we can't bury teams atm. Is it fitness, the team building up slowly? We are not playing top end footy, but we win games and that is so important. We are doing well atm. We need quite a bit of improvement still, but it is happening each week. Great win.

Saw enough athletic tools and lack of panic in traffic for O'Donnell's to understand why he got a game. It's sort of a this bloke has the minimum athletic tools to be a player, work out the rest later. A bit like how we rushed Gardner into the team as a game or two after we mid season draftee him as a ruck/forward. Could be like Cox at Essendon as a tall wingman.
Think he has a bit more than just Athletic tools.

Allowed Lobb to play a different game which was influential and really did not look over awed and competed well.

When you watch our VFL games there really is no one to replace our top level mids so we came up with a plan B which actually worked OK.

More concerned about a few regular players, however they stepped up in the last half of the last quarter. On to Ballarat and revenge against the Crows

* Carlton and everyone involved with them. Feral fans who act like they are a powerhouse team, top up every year and go nowhere. Get sucked off by the umps with a home crowd and still fall short.

Tragic.
Carlton’s board is the only opposition board I’ve really read since joining BF.
They have some serious Sherrifs who still proclaim the VFL days.
Not only did the Sherrifs say success was guaranteed, but it was going to be constant, long lasting success.
“Tragic” is now an understatement.

Seriously Bevo, stop faking around with this team on big games. Debut’s a kid who has played 3 games in the backline of the reserves, never played forward, so he plays him in the forward line, the guy was a deer in headlights all game and late in the game Curnow was the only likely forward on the ground to be a match winner, he has Keith on him, instead of Jones. flipping pissed off but super happy with the win. Arthur Jones/Jamarra and Scott won us that game late. Keith is done and should’ve been dropped for young O’Donnell to play third tall defender.

Even if it's out of character. I didn't want to kick a guy when he was down.

McKays so bereft of confidence right now that he decided to kick the ball around the corner from 30 metres out directly in front.

If I was blues fan I wouldn't have waited for 8 minutes left in the game to leave. I would've up and went right then!

I would've kicked that and Im 89 years old and dependant on a zimmer frame to get around.

It can be true both that English was the better ruck on the game, but also didn't meet expectations as the best ruck in the league in the season so far up against a fringe ruck who has also been dropped this season and probably only getting a game because the opposition first choice ruck has been concussed

and we are not playing that consistently all of the quarters. it looks like we are building, playing ok and winning. sack Bevo ffs
You’d have to think that if we’d adopted a wait and see approach before re-signing him like Cornes etc suggested he’d be looking pretty good by now anyway.

Winning ugly but still winning. Quite incredibly we are only a win and percentage off the current ladder leaders.

I think we can start to put to bed the notion that once headed teams will just have their way with us.

It seems pretty clear now that Beveridge has put into place strategies to deal with this once glaring issue.

Now all we need to do is use it when we play Melbourne and vanquish our demons.
