Interesting you say that because the participants in the recent Under 18 Championships were all surveyed and more answered they wanted to play under Kevin Sheedy than any other coach.

I'm pretty sure Kevin Sheedy coaches Essendon.

yes I'll bet those 17 year olds, just hoping to get a chance, gave a real considered opinion. and what was the number again, it was 18% wasn't it?

So nearly 1 in 5. I do believe that doesn't qualify as 'no one really...wants to go to Essendon.'

it proves my point, 1 in 5 boys - not of adult age, not even been drafted, not actually in the league, and most never will be - suggested in a survey they want to be coached by Kevin Sheedy!!!?

Is that your best evidence of the high esteem your immediate future is held in?

gosh.

Buddy won't leave, why would he leave to go to the rabble that is Essendon :)

They start fights :)
I once heard Sheedy say that Essendon wants to bulid up the Richmond match so that it can use big matches at the G to attract young players to the club. With Essendon, Franklin gets at least one major blockbuster to play before a packed MCG, no matter how badly it is going.

Not sure how a bloke who has played 20 games, showed a lot of talent but also shown some flaws makes it as a big name. But each to their own.

If he's a big name, I guess Hawthorn will have no problem paying him big dollars.

I see what you're saying, Longy413 and I agree with your inference about a hyped young player being paid on potential over production, but Franklin's talent is undeniable. He has 10 years in front of him. We're not talking about a 29 year old footballer where you'd definitely want value for money. It's possibly worht over-paying him now just to have him on your books.

Not to campare him to Judd (except in the sense that he's an obviously talented young kid) but it's a similar scenario to 2-3 seasons ago when Leigh Matthews bought in to the speculation of Judd returning to Victoria. He said he'd happily pay the 19yo upwards of $500,000 a year, if only because it meant they'd have him on their list.

I remember years back when Scotty Lucas and Matty Lloyd were still young and received hefty 4 year deals. They were probably paid more than they were worth at the time, but Essendon were happy to keep their young guns happy.

Deledio would be in a similar situation at Richmond right now. As a young gun loaded with potential he could command whatever he wants and the Tigers would pay him.

Buddy had a reputation of being a loose cannon before the draft.
He has already proven himself to be a handful at hawthorn.
These types of plays prove to be more trouble then what they are worth. May show glimpses of potential. But that's all you'll get with buddy.

I enjoyed watching the loose cannon blow your side to smithereens.

That was a truly enjoyable "glimpse of his potential".

Has he done a Jay Schultze yet?

No.

Then STFU.

Different story. Shultz doesn’t need a nanny to look after him.
Someone obviously has been shedding tears on their pillow about the news.

Funny. next year you can watch him blow your side to smithereens while he wears balck and red. :D

You wish that was true. :p

You wish the horror of 13 straight losses wasn't true. :p

Fankston Rover is spot on - this is the usual trade speculation rubbish that gets thrown up at this time every year. Franklin won't be the last big name we see linked to Essendon. If it takes your mind off Essendon's pathetic season, then good for you.

Buddy has become the most talked about player in the league at the moment. Lots of publicity for the Hawthorn Football Club to go along with the increasing bank account and state of the art training facilities. :) :thumbsu:

So your saying Buddy having a nanny is a good thing?
It's hardly a bad thing is it?

The kid is 19, living in the big smoke, playing in the most media scrutinised sport in the country and earning bigger bucks than he has ever seen before in his life no doubt.

Not many 19 year olds would be able to resist all of the 'temptations' that have been thrown his way.

What it does show is the excellent leadership and management of the hawthorn football club.

I love the passion Richmond supporters have for Buddy, they just cant stop talking about him. Maybe his shaparone is to protect him from obsessed Richmond fans.
