As for NAB, when I went to deposit my $250 Electricity gift from the state government, a google search alerted me to the fact that they don't have a branch now within about 6 kms of me, and I live in St Kilda. Didn't realise banking a cheque could become such a chore. If NAB are more than money they are sure hiding the extras they provide from me.
Do yourself a favour and switch to the Bendigo, they've got a lovely branch in Elwood which is open til 5pm Mon-Fri and they don't charge fees for the privilege of holding your money.

The NAB are a bunch of crooks as clearly laid out in the royal commission, eg:

"NAB also stands apart from the other three major banks. Having heard from both the CEO, Mr. Thorburn, and the Chair, Dr. Henry, I am not as confident as I would wish to be that the lessons of the past have been learned. More particularly, I was not persuaded that NAB is willing to accept the necessary responsibility for deciding, for itself, what is the right thing to do, and then having its staff act accordingly. I thought it telling that Dr. Henry seemed unwilling to accept any criticism of how the board had dealt with some issues. I thought it telling that Mr. Thorburn treated all issues of fees for no service as nothing more than carelessness combined with system deficiencies when the total amount to be repaid by NAB and NULIS on this account is likely to be more than $100 million. I thought it telling that in the very week that NAB’s CEO and Chair were to give evidence before the Commission, one of its staff should be emailing bankers urging them to sell at least five mortgages each before Christmas. Overall, my fear – that there may be a wide gap between the public face NAB seeks to show and what it does in practice – remains."

I also have an ANZ account which is where I deposited the cheque, but even there I had to take a trip up Chapel St. Both banks used to have branches in Acland St. NAB don't charge me any fees but I like to have access to a branch when I need it. Thanks. I will look into Bendigo.

I go there once a month, no queue and no attitude, no bulletproof screen, it's a delight!

Also have a branch on Chapel St Windsor

So Wayne Carey is playing the disability discrimination card and wants to sue Crown.
What a disgusting human he is.
I can't imagine medicine being prescribed in the form of a white powder in small clear, unmarked plastic bags. How would a dose be determined? The only real defence is his apparent willingness to hand the bag over to Crown staff.

Whilst William of Occam says it was cocaine, there is a possible(albeit unlikely) explanation in that some people don't like swallowing pills. He would have had that many NSAIDs over his career and retirement that he would likely be pretty careful to always take them with food. Put those two together and you get a white baggy. Aleeve also comes in powder form, but I think he has said it was simply a crushed up pill?

I imagined that is what he was claiming but it still begs the question of how he determines a prescribed dose. I find it hard to believe that Care couldn't swallow a pill. He says in the article he offered to leave the bag with the casino employees. If your theory is correct, I don't understand why he didn't insist on leaving a sample with the casino so that he could later ask for analysis of the contents. He must have been aware that being asked to leave the casino wasn't going to be the end of this story.

Pretty easy to determine the dose. One pill crushed is still one pill.

I dunno - whatever the amount, getting the dose right wouldn't have been the issue. The rest of it is though! If I am Carey and I am clean, just ask for a drug test. If not, I probably wouldn't...
Aleve (Naproxen) does come in powder form as well as tablets. If that was the substance, a smart man would have insisted (not offered) on Crown taking the sample. It's an over the counter drug. That he allowed himself to be removed from the venue without insisting on pursuing his innocence creates understandable suspicion.

If you are crushing one tablet and then consuming it immediately then yes, dosage remains the same. However, if multiple tablets are being crushed and then added to a bag to administer later, then absolutely dosage is an issue. How much powder equates to 1 or 2 tablets? How does an ordinary joe blow makes sure they are dispensing the right amount each time? Not something to be cavalier about. Ibuprofen and paracetamol can do a lot of damage if too much is taken, liver toxicity is a major side effect.

It’s possible but the whole thing seems quite odd and I think you may have been on the right track with Occam. To my way of thinking, this is definitely an Occam’s razor scenario. 5 stars to Carey though for a creative explanation that can’t now be verified.

Carey is probably my most hated human being on earth and he should never had a media career after his multiple indiscretions but I think that until the powder is identified he should not be hung drawn and quartered. People are too quick to find someone guilty these days without the full evidence

In terms of creativity to explain away drug offences, I reckon he is only about 3 stars. He doesn't come close to the excuses that popped up during cycling's salad days of blood doping. To wit:
  • "I tested positive to cocaine from Peruvian candies my aunty gave to me. After the failure of my first excuse that I got it from my dentist's anaesthetic." Gibi Simoni. It worked.
  • "My blood markers showing foreign cells were due to the vanishing twin with whom I shared my mum's womb before I absorbed it - chimerism." Tyler Hamilton. It didn't.
  • "the EPO, HGH and steroids you found in my wife's car were for her mum." Even though the quantity could have dosed up a whole team. Raimondas Rumsas. This worked. Even though he popped for EPO the next year.

Crown has now disputed Carey's version of events. He never offered the powder to security and lied about whether he was staying in the hotel when they gave him the two year ban. They had to go up to his room and ask him to leave. We'll never know what was in that bag but there are enough lies there, on top of other incidents both recent and historical, to suggest to his various employers that he's really not worth the trouble these days.

Tomorrow 9th September, marks 10 years since the passing of John McCarthy J-Mac

Crown did what it thought was the right thing.
As a “celebrity” they treated him differently and attempted to keep the incident out of the headlines to protect him. Thus they refused to take the bag which would have committed them to involving the police as they suspected the bag to contain illicit substances. Their licence would commit to involving the authorities once they had possession.
This has backfired on them as once the story did leak Carey has used the non testing of the bag contents to his advantage.
If it was any ordinary Joe, the police would have been called and we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
The man is sub human. And the 7 broadcast is all the better tonight.

If I recall correctly, we played Swans in Sydney in a Prelim final the year JMac passed (in fact the week he passed?). Ten years later and we meet them again. Hopefully the result will be reversed.
R.I.P. JMac.
