Just a word about Gina Handcock.....I just realised i wanted to say two words

It might be an idea to make these mining companies pay tax and then use some of it to sponsor sport. I know I'm in the minority but seeing sporting clubs and organisations cosy up to mining companies and gambling companies and money laundrers like Crown, only makes me feel negativity towards them.

As for Gina's old man, he should be dug up and tied to a whipping post.

Federal government should intervene and stump up the cash. It’s only $15 million

i'd like to see one of those "gofundme" or "pleasefundme" things to get the money directly from the people. As long as the women got their house in order and worked out a smooth transition to a professional environment. This sport has done more for women for a long time in rural environments especially than all the other new fangled sports which are attracting funding.

Good luck to Netball Australia securing any sponsorship if the players can upend any arrangement they manage to secure.

yes, players need to understand that if they want to play for their country, they need to wear the logos of a company founded by a man who said that half-caste aborigines should be forceably sterilised.

Ah, 'the sins of the father'.... then they should vote with their feet and not play. Perfectly acceptable solution.
The question is, "At what point do you stop looking for an issue to protest against?" I'm sure they are all happy to consume products from the mining outputs, or the services that the mining royalties contribute to...
I support the decisions of principled individuals however, I get frustrated at 'selective outrage'.

They are free to protest whichever way they want to. They dont have to align to your requirements. On a personal level, I can buy what i want when I want....and if i want to selectively protest against a company that I dont like, then I am free to do that. I dont have to abide by the rules that you or other people think are reasonable. I'm not wanting your agreement or your acknowledgement that what I am doing is acceptable. I'm sure the players involved feel the same. If you dont agree with people using their rights as they see fit, then go overseas and live in another country.

Oh and I forgot to say the question you ask isnt relevant to me. I ask the question, " At what point does the money get enough to forget about you own morality?"

And as far as the sins of the father, gina rinehart is perfectly willing to be a billionaire because of her father. She hasnt refused the money. She hasn't apologised for his attitudes. She lies in the same bed, as far as I'm concerned. I dont agree with people distancing themselves from the benefits of being in a family and not acknowledging the negatives. If she doesnt like being criticised, she is free to piss off to another country and sell her company to someone else who can dig up dirt.

You might need to look into things a bit more closely. Because the netball players still wanted the money. Quotes from the Players' Union CEO below.

“At no point in time did the players seek to have the deal fall off the table"

“It wasn’t a rejection of Hancock, it was just trying to work through the issues."

They went a bit too hard - and now plenty will suffer.

well so be it. people will live and learn. If you're dealing with billionaires who are rarely quetioned, you have to take their money on their terms. That is the reality...

and if netball australia falls in a hole and women dont have an ability to play for australia, then gina wont give a crap. That is something the players will realise too. And as mining companies support FIFO so that they dont have to invest in towns and netball teams, the trend and attitude is already there. Her withdrawing of a couple of million bucks is chicken feed in comparison.

I ask myself the question, how many billions do you need to live a good life? Is one billion enough?

I ask myself often why australia seems to be so concerned to allocate digging pits to so-called australian companies. I just dont see the point.

On a final point, gina rinehart has never commented on her father's comments from 1984. If I was an indigenous player wanting to play for australia, I would express my displeasure at Hancock sponsoring the team. I would express that view to fellow team mates. i would also suffer the consequences.....and i cant believe that those consequences are that I should have shut my trap up.

Please don't turn this into another of your "rich people make me sad" rants.

For *s sake. You realise you can protest, and want society to be better, whilst still participating in it?

The emboldened is a stupid question.

good news on the netball front....at least in the long term.

the liberal party has promised funding for netball teams in marginal electorates, should it be returned to power. Unfortunately, Durack which takes in most of the mining centres in WA is a safe liberal seat.....so no funding at all to any teams left in those towns post FIFO.

'They are free to protest whichever way they want to'. Are you OK with climate change activists gluing themselves to Picasso and Van Gogh paintings? Or vegans pouring milk all over cheese displays in stores? I suspect that many of these forms of protests attract more criticism than they do followers. In the case of climate change protest, it's hard to understand why they'd choose such a random and potentially destructive form of protest given that most governments are already committed to policies designed to curb the effects of climate change. And the 'if you don't like it go live in another country' line is never going to influence anyone to change their thinking on an issue - quite the opposite in fact.

Have such distasteful forms of protest led to people who had been committed to that cause abandoning it?

Tell me where the women are gluing themselves to works of art or destroying others property....

I will tell you now. If I were an indigenous man and I was required to wear the logo of Lang Hancock on my t-shirt to play for my country, then I would find another sport.

And you may say, good riddance to me and that you prefer the interests of gina rinhart to promote her company. That is your right.

The following banner is now on my bigfooty page. I dont play video games of any type, either online or plugged in. The last time I played one was 20 years ago....

But the content of the banner is interesting....evidently when you're selling things, the de goey respect factor isnt factored in....maybe I just got a dirty mind

It’s absolutely disgusting. How can they make a spelling mistake like that?
