Final thoughts of what will go down tonight. This is really hard with the live trading in place so I expect it to be way off

1: Carl - Walsh
2: GC - Lukosius
3: GC - Rankine
4: St K - M King
5: Syd - Blakey
6: PA - Rozee
7: GC - B King
8: WB - Smith
9: Adel - Caldwell
10: GWS - Jones
11: PA - Clark
12: GWS - Hately
13: NM - Thomas
14: Geel - Butters
15: Coll - Quaynor
16: Adel - RCD
17: Freo - Sturt
18: PA - Hill
19: GWS - Briggs
20: Adel - Duursma
21: Rich - McHenry
22: Bris - O’Halloran
23: Haw - Stocker (trade with GWS)
Think youre on the money..

Carlton will take walsh..

The next two best players in the draft are luko and rankine.. if gold coast dont take them then they might as well not even bother.. Why have pick 2 and 3 if youre not going to pick the best two players available.

picking top 10 is pretty hard but the results in 3-5 years probably easier

Carlton Pick 1 Poorly developed hasnt reach his draft potential like all of them
GC Pick 2,3,6 Wants a trade home like May Lynch
Saints Pick 4 Another that hasn't reached potential like Billings Paddy and others
Power Pick 5 Poor kick like Ollie
Bulldogs Pick 7 Looks like a gun Macrae Bont.
Crows Pick 8 Draft slider bargain
GWS Pick 9 Gun
Power Pick 10 Still cant kick
GWS Pick 11 Traded to Carlton
FYI, May is from Darwin not Melbourne

Here is my final list - not including bid matching which will see Blakey, Thomas, Quaynor and possibly Briggs gone tonight.

5: PA - Rankine
6: GC - Caldwell
7: WB - Smith

9: GWS - Jones
10: PA - Hately
11: GWS - Clark
12: Geel - Butters
13: Adel - RCD
14: Freo - Hill
15: PA - Duursma
16: Adel - Sturt
17: Rich - Stocker
18: Bris - Valente
19: GWS - Taylor

My prediction for tonight.
The only two rumours from reputable sources are that Bulldogs are looking to trade down and that Saints offered GC 4 for 6 and 24 so the only reason I can see for these to be true is if Saints want Smith and know he will be there at 6 or 7, and Bulldogs want Caldwell or Smith but know neither will be there. If that's true then I see the following happening.

Trade 1 Adelaide and Bulldogs - 8 and 21 for 7 and 27
Trade 2 Adelaide and Saints - 7 and 16 for 4

Carlton - Walsh
GC - Max King
GC - Ben King
Ade - Lukoscius
Port - Rankine
GC - Caldwell
Saints - Smith
Bulldogs - Rozee

Gold Coast simply have to address both their talls and the go home factor. How better than to get a gun CHF and a gun CHB who happen to be twins and their mate who is a gun midfielder. It really does make sense when you think of the flight risk that Rankine is.
It’s a bit of a misnomer, with Peter Wright, Rory Thompson, Goober, Leslie, Witts, Nichols and Koenen we are fine from talls plus add Luko and Kochinzci from this draft

He also said if we bid on academy players its because we want them at that pick not for it to be matched. Have a feel GWS are paying up for Briggs.

Ugh, Balmer’s said GWS might be trading up and taking Caldwell

We better take Smith, in that case

That’s consistent with media speculation about Bullies trading down and GWS looking to get in front of the crows first pick

“Consensus” Vic press is interstate clubs will give Smith a wide berth

Need to definitively tell Bullies that Smith will be ours if they trade pick 7

We know Ely Smith was a late call up to draft night so I reckon there appears to be some serious interest by more than one club, my gut feel it will be Brisbane who have a recent history of preferring Vic Country lads which to now has proven a successful ploy given they've all inked new contracts and are loving it up there.

Yeah, must be something in that. Although, I dont understand how clubs are both keeping their cards close to their chest AND calling up bolters at the same time. :) Like I said before, I dont have any feel for Ely Smith at all. If we call his name he will be one of my new favourite players and top 10 on my draft board all along ;)

By the way Bicks. I reckon your bloke Berry is a strong chance to be called up at Brisbane's first. Unless they reach for him, I dont think they get him. It will be a really tough call for them if they want him.

Not many better midfielders inside the contest than Ely Smith in this draft, big brute of a lad. What surprised a lot of us was his Combine testing results where he tested outstanding in the athletic tests which he really hasn't shown too much of in his game day performances. Reckon some of the AFL clubs now think with the right development they can bring that athleticism out in his game and if so he becomes a tantalising prospect with his already seriously well developed inside game.

That's not what I'm hearing locally, Brisbane most likely but not that early. Pete Williams is hearing the Rebels only confident 2 Rebels will definitely get drafted, Berry in the main draft and athletic small/medium forward Jed Hill late/rookie. I was hopeful Charlie Wilson was a chance also but there only seems to be moderate interest from clubs, personally I'm taking Wilson over Jed Hill.

I am not sure that thats how to look at it. You say one spot but if Rankine is still there the trade up is not one spot its to to do two things. One is to stop us from pinching Rankine and the second is to gaurentee that they get Rankine. I know its still one spot that that move is a big improvement. However we dont miss out either because we might get the chance to take Rozee and with Port not having pick 10 we also get the chance to take Hately at 13.

Port need Rankine but I think they need two players more than one. Doubt they will trade 5 and 10 for 4 but I am the Sgt Schultz of trades... I know NOTHING!

Clubs are not used to 5 minute timeframes to make Trade decisions .... they’ll more likely experiment year 1 from the 2nd round
I fully expect that clubs have contingent deals in place right now for live pick trades.

For example, we've agreed with St Kilda that if Rankine is available at pick 4, they will trade us pick 4 in exchange for pick 8 and 13. If Rankine isn't available, the deal doesn't occur.

Edit: I should say that the example I gave isn't what I'm suggesting is already in place. It's just an example of the sort of thing that could have already been agreed to.
