Nah man, but we’d need to be guaranteed of Tauru, if that’s our main target. Massive danger we lose him to Melbourne or Richmond….its kind of important don’t ya think? You get pick 2 though so all good.
Unless you work at the AfL , or at a club or for a leading player manager, you don't know what is happening. The bigfooty world is probably 2% informed at best, but think about it, If you work in the game you probably only post here as a bit of a joke, not to help you do your job.

Please. There are loads of list managers in this thread. Multiple in the last three pages.

If Melbourne or Richmond are seriously looking at #2, they should be leaking rumours that they're looking closely at Tauru for 5/6.

Force North to consider that if they trade with the Saints (or Richmond in Melbourne's case), they'll miss out on him in order to limit their options and drive a better deal.

We won’t take Tauru at two so the threat is immaterial. The choice is to offer North something better than FOS or Draper, or to leave the pick order as it is, meaning Melbourne will miss out on top line midfielders, and Richmond just get one. It’s pretty simple.

It's an intersting draft. There's about 6 mids who all look like they belong at about pick 4 in a standard draft. I think you will take Tauru. For me, he's a clear standout by position - more likely to become a star than the mids.

If your team does not have round 1 selection in this years draft you'll be downplaying the quality and vice versa if your team does.

As a tiges man - I'll play my part. This draft to me looks high quality - I've not watched any of them play but my opinion is based on the fact Ashcroft is not being judged as the far and away best player in the draft. In fact there are a few players who would possibly have been rated higher than him but for injuries.

The Ashcrofts provide us with a great form line. He is rated as better than his brother who has made an enormous impact already. The fact he is not clear number 1 and there are 5-6 others that can lay claim to being rated at 1 tells me this is a high quality deep draft - This could well be a super draft.

Its about risk/reward management for me.

I think Tauru's ceiling is very high, he's an athletic freak and thrilling to watch in flight, but he hasn't yet proven the quality of disposal and ball-in-hand decision-making you'd associate with a top 2 pick. By contrast, I have no doubt Draper becomes a star of the competition, who might not have the lofty ceiling of Tauru, but is more certain to be an elite player. You could say the same about FOS too. So I'd only support taking Tauru if we also got an additional pick to draft another high quality tall to offset the risk North would be taking onboard by trading down from the slam dunk options.

If I was a North supporter, I'd be gutted if we didn't end up with Tauru. He looks unreal. Whereas to me the mids look like good players, but I'm not seeing stars of the comp.

I can't say I've seen too many North supporters that care too much about Tauru. If you come to our board it seems the one they're going to be sad to miss out on is Gerreyn.

Where we disagree is that I'm projecting good players rather than stars when it comes to the mids.

Yeah fair enough.

Tho I look at something like the play at 1.11, that kind of ridiculous agility and speed mixed with elite decision-making and spatial awareness, and it leaves me with very little doubt that this kid will be better than just good.

Agree that he looks exciting. I think I'm unfairly biased against Draper, as his brother had two years with us and had some good tools, but not much idea about how to use them.

They need talent. Every team does. If you have pick 2 you take the best available player.
That would normally be the case but they've had 6 top 5 picks since 2020 and taken 6 mids - all the while having 2 good talls on the entire list, one of whom is now gone. At some point it stops being about 'best available' and starts being about building a list that can win games.

Levi Ashcroft is a clear number one. Cal Twomey has been clear on this but its completely pointless discussing where he falls because he's only going to Brisbane.

All the top mids in this draft appear to have an "area of improvement", except for Levi.... who has been labelled the best balanced mid for months

I agree he is number 1 but I dont think he is a clear number 1.

In our forward line next year we will have Larkey and Darling, Finbar Maley showing good signs in the VFL, Callum Coleman-Jones will come back from a slightly delayed pre-season and then we can rotate Teakle and Pink through. Comben can play both ends but primarily he will assist Logue and Corr with Kallan Dawson and Pink also depth. Then there's a first rounder from last year named Wil Dawson who is turning into a second Comben, a hulking competitive beast that can do it both ends. This isn't mentioning Xerri and Goad in the rucks. That's a third of our list that are talls.

Now I'll note you said "good talls" and ours across the board are generally not high prospects but with the old "big men take time" adage I would say it's less likely now they want to draft heavily in this area and more likely Clarkson wants us looking in other areas to recruit these guys.

It will become clear pretty quickly - if 2 gets traded out we will look at the better crop of these KPP players. If we hold 2 though we're not drafting Tauru there, you can bet on FOS or Draper wearing blue and white next year.

Ashcroft is the clear number 1. He is not reviewed like the others as he is already a Bris player - on the open market the Tigers are taking him at 1.

5 players could go 1 is due to having no Reid or JHF in the draft. This draft looks even more than super. You have to go back to 2016 for any of the current draftees being a chance to go at 1.

I agree with your first point. Would counter your point on Ashcroft with FOS who seems a consensus top 3 pick despite having a pretty avwrage year, even when considering some injuries. Can’t imagine he’d a top 10 pick last year.
