Why do people keep bringing up Treloar? Firstly he was younger and arguably the top GWS midfield talent of that time (along with Shiel), Shiel otoh is at best the 3rd best right now and only has about 6-7 years left in him. Secondly he's going now for salary cap reasons, when NBA teams need to get a player off the books for salary cap reasons they take a loss on the initial deal but might win later with their cap space.... Salary dumps can range from players who used to be good to players that are still good, all types of players get dumped for money reasons.

You want an NBA example? Here's an oldie but a good one... Vlade Divac was a very good center for the LA Lakers... they ended up trading him for a promising young player which left them enough cap space to sign a really big player..... the youngster being Kobe Bryant and the big player being Shaquille O'Neal. Of course this is the extreme version of it but even if Kobe was a bust just replacing Divac with Shaq thanks to a salary dump was already a massive ****ing win.

And also... in regards to he's going to Essendon because they have the picks.... the job of Connors it to get his client to the club of his choice after they decide where they want to go... Essendon have copped a hammering from him before... but we're starting to reap the benefits....

If getting a Paul Connors client to a club was just a matter of getting them to whoever was willing to pay up then Paddy Ryder would be at GWS right now and Eseendon would've got back a top 5 pick instead of 17 and 37.
