I think any club with the #1 pick in the PSD would be trying to convince a good player to walk to them... clubs will use anything to get ahead.

Lets not forget Port and St Kilda trying to convince Ryder and Carlisle to use the apparent clause to void their contracts.

Or bulldogs CEO Peter Gordon trying to get Crameri to flip so he would get a minimal sentence.

I really think after the last few years we owe no club any sense of 'good guy' approach to things
I can't see us getting JOM in the PSD - the AFL wouldn't let it happen.

Considering the Suns are owned by the AFL we should just trade directly with Gil...
I think this will be the outcome

Ess In: JOM
Ess Out: Pick 27 (Melb)

Gold Coast in: Pick 27 (Ess via Melb) 10 First round compensation picks (AFL)
Gold Coast Out: JOM

Can take it to the bank:

Steele to saints
Marchbank to Carlton.

Carlton/St Kilda into Tomlinson after the previous two deals are done
Basically rules both out of getting O'Meara then for mine. Saints and GCS would be at logger-heads and a deal would never get done with each as difficult to deal with as the other, the Blues (you'd think) would be unwilling to let go of Pick 5 if they can help it (though it may be tied up in a deal for Marchbank and Tomlinson with a later first going back their way).

Leaves North, the Hawks and us. North (despite being in the 8) are actually be a long way behind us in terms of talent development, and the Hawks...well they're falling off the cliff now and I would think they're more into Tom Mitchell, and this year is honestly their last chance at a flag but I don't even think they'll make the grand final let alone win it.

They can't do anything to prevent it. If he nominates us we are not under any obligation to trade for him, and given the shit they're flinging at him (and having basically said they don't care if he goes to the PSD) O'Meara and his manager are also not under any obligation to work with the Suns. If he picks us, we're walking him straight in the door via the PSD there's no sense trading for him when we don't have to. It's time to be ruthless.

10 first round compo picks? I don't think so, they won't even get 1. If we get him it'll be via the PSD, we won't be trading.

I think I've read on here somewhere that JOM wants to go to a club with some chance of success in the near future.
That would obviously rule out Norf but also Hawthorn as well, unless they can pull a flag out next year when JOM is there.
There isn't too much on Hawthorns list under 24 that I would say will develop into guns. If you're a player looking for success and you go to Hawthorn, you're a couple years too late

was being sarcastic, in that the AFL would find a way to somehow compensate its $100m baby

There is a way for us to get him for free.

We work with him, he nominates us, we offer a low contract and offer the Sun a matching pittance (e.g. 2nd round pick), the Sun predictably crack the sads and refuse the trade, we pick him up in the PSD on a contract of his choosing.

Don't worry guys. Suns will sook over whatever those clubs offer and he'll come to us via PSD. ;)
