Taken directly from the Suns statement: As Jaeger doesn't qualify as a Free Agent, AFL rules dictate he holds no rights to determine his destination of choice.

That is a blatant refusal to allow him to choose a destination club. Given the language that Gold Coast have been using I'd fully expect the AFLPA and the AFL to step in and tell the Suns that, that's not on. A club cannot dictate to a player where they will go.

I fully expect this to backfire on them and to see him walk to the PSD (even before the trade period I expect he'll simply walk out on them).

This, it's about time Gold Coast got their comeuppance.

Not the first time Tony Cochrane has had a fit of the I have no idea what's going ons.

yeah. the player still has to agree to a contract with any destination club, so while the rules state he has no say in picking a club, he can still refuse to got a club who agrees a trade.

Think back to when Rischetelli was offered up in I think the Fev trade, refused the contract, felt slighted and ended up going to GC

Its not like the american sports where as a player you can get a text saying you've just been traded to team X... pack your bags

The AFL wont step in and tell the suns that's not on, the AFL don't want 20yo players to leave Queensland. And are probably sick of players nominating clubs where they want to go.

Think its about time clubs fought back from the blatant trolling of players for there true value.

Look at Brisbane for example

James Aish was a former pick 7 exchanged in effect for a second rounder (2016) and a bunch of token selections
Jack Redden was a two time top 3 club b&f place finisher exchanged for selection 17. Peanuts really
Jack Crisp was a rookie so thats null in void. was a token steak knife really
Sam Docherety was a former pick 12 exchanged for pick 33
Elliot Yeo was a pick 30 traded for pick 28
Jarad Polec was a former pick 5 traded for pick 22
Billy Longer was a former pick 8 exchanged for pick 25 & 41
Pat Karnezis was a pick 25 exchanged for Jackson Paine (who?)

No wonder the Lions are stuffed. So much top end talent just departed and dictated exactly where they want to go without the club having any leverage what so ever.

* want to say that they still don't deserve a priority pick, maybe a lesson in how to keep talent :p
True, good points. Personally I think the most important aspect of player retention is creating an environment in which the players want to remain, and both QLD clubs have failed at doing so.

If I were one of this years potential draftee's one of the sticking points I'd be discussing with my manager would be not going to either a QLD club or a WA club due to not wanting to be that far from family and friends (and the QLD clubs are just basketcases). Tricky situation for me in parallel in given my degree and the area I'm hoping to work in I might be forced to move overseas to work haha.

Nobody can tell me that the reason why the Qld clubs are struggling so much is merely due to them being a non-footy state. The Sydney clubs are both doing very well, especially GWS who seem to have put far more effort into their club culture early days and are now clearly reaping the benefits.
Agree, GWS have done it the right way and now look like becoming a powerhouse, whereas the Suns are looking like amateurs in comparison. Poorly run.

Tim Watson sounded like he could barely contain his glee on 7 news before.

I've heard Tim talk about Jaeger a few times this year on SEN, and Tim has a crush on him for sure, If he comes to Essendon his wife should be worried, and Jobe might just have a new younger step-daddy.

Its either that or Tim has known he was coming to Essendon all year that's why hes been talking him up.

I can vouch for that. I smashed my patella, femur and did my lateral ligament playing footy 25 years ago. When I woke after the op there was a jar with a piece of cartilage in it next to me bedside. They had flushed just as much down the drain so to skeak. I've never been able to run without pain since and I'm a fitness freak. Surf, ride and gym..
I went to Julian Feller (Jobe's Surgeon) early this year to see if there was anything that can be done. He said once you've lost it it is downhill from there and a knee replacement is next.
I protected my knee whenever possible. Can't imagine the stress AFL puts on it. Cooney is a legend for playing through that pain.

You poor bastard.. Why did they take it out? Yeah feller was my surgeon too, if he says there's nothing to be done, rest assured there isn't..

They were also pretty strong on us using the power to walk him to the PSD...
In the box seat here, let's hope he nominates us and not Norf..
I don't like the idea. We'll never be able to trade with the GC again. Offer a fair deal if he passes the medical.

I like the romance of us retaining the no. 1 pick even though I know it's overrated. I've really only seen Ainsworth of the top 1-20 picks live and he looks all class but I wouldn't know whether pick 1 would be worth retaining to use on any of the names mentioned i.e. Brodie, McLuggage if it meant O'Meara was then off the table.

What a beef cake. I think he needs to trim down, far too top heavy for his puny legs to support. I want O'Meara and Gleeson to be somewhere in between the pair.

Just look at that rig.

Timmy said that JOM (before injuries) might be the best midfielder the game has ever seen.

I haven't read the whole thread and although id love to get Omera through the PSD. I think we need to offer a fair deal, same as Carlisle last year we would've spat it if Stk got him in the PSD. It sets a bad precedent. In saying that what's he worth i really don't know.

I don't necessarily think Brisbane's culture is that bad, they've had players that have left wanting to go home.
Then once players like that start leaving its hard to see a direction the club is going and as a youngster you might chase different things (large crowds, marquee games, success) etc
Also Brisbanes facilites are crap, one of the reasons Leuenberger left.

People say a good culture breeds winning, namely whorethorn supporters who talk about their 'family culture'
but I think winning breeds good culture, especially at the elite level.

Brisbane will turn the corner one day and then suddenly everyone will talk about how good they are, good culture etc.

Not even knowing what the culture is like inside a professional side but If I was on Brisbanes list and saw all those guys leaving i'd be asking myself about the direction the club is heading. Location wise though I'd prefer to play for GC or Brisbane if I wasn't playing for Essendon

The other big reason I can see for their continual spell at the bottom of the ladder is how they pay overs for anybody who actually wants to play for them
Tom Bell, Christensen etc

Nah bugger them. We have had everything thrown at us in the past years so now its time to be ruthless. If he chooses us take him in the PSD and they can all have a cry about it.

Collingwood still trades with St Kilda despite Luke Ball walking to them in the PSD
