Bell is far from the best runner in the club.
Certainly not when it comes to game day though. Routinely right at the top of sprints, repeat sprints, and most distance covered. I wouldn't have picked him personally, but he does cover a huge distance. I agree that he probably needs to convert that into a greater influence in games though.

Bell gonna defensive run, repeat sprint, block outlet, one percent, and cut angle like we have never seen

bell is equal 463rd in the comp for average one percenters a game

so im sure he will lead the way there

Clearly the coaches feel that out of the cattle available he can do a job they deem important. I imagine they feel that that job is more important than the one Campbell could do IN THIS GAME.
Trust the coaches.

Who knows, maybe he can commit enough one percenters on the weekend to realise every footballers dreams of giving it a 110%
Commit 110 one percenters & statistically, 1.1 of them will actually achieve anything.

I’d therefore prefer a player who commits 80 two percenters, thereby impacting the game twice.

Naturally, a player who focusses on three percenters is even more effective & will thus become the modern prototype (particularly if he is also of a Cripps-esque stature).

Alas, this is not good news for Bell, who, by reaching a career high 463rd in the league* for one percenters, is master of a dying art.

Match committee is probably like, "dang, we dont want Reid to be the whipping boy again if we lose!"

But seriously, I guess they saw that we won the last 5 games Bell has played. Match committee probably sees something we dont in those games, but we will see.

I trust the coaches, but I think some on here go over the top sometimes. Bell is getting a game purely because we have two great players out and the only other option was a very raw kid, but reading some on here you'd think he's irreplaceable.

Even though Stephens played in our GWS win, I think if St Kilda didn't play such a blinder (probably their best game of the year) when he was recalled maybe he would have been given more chances to prove himself against worse teams such as North and Gold Coast. Potentially be a call up for the finals when Mills and JPK were injured.

But such is life in the AFL and our team... hard to get into.

Very smart call

I'm more concerned about the negative nellies who go ballistic because Bell has been picked. Had a f*cking gutful. I'm outta here until after the game.

Fox is the other option and he should be playing over Bell

Places him just ahead of Rowbottom and Papley

Fox is another Dean Towers , he's no superstar but tries his best and you love that , but so many better options . He did well where he was last week , but the the last time we played these scum , a couple of them just walked through him

Except Bell is the only player we are comparing him to and he isnt a better option

All year we've seemed to pay a lot of attention to trying to get our structure right. Fox and Bell play completely different roles, why would they sacrifice the structure they've spent all season fine-tuning come finals? If Fox was going to play as a forward, it needed to happen weeks ago, not now.

Guys, I asked one of the players a few weeks ago why Bell gets a game. He said that they love Belly because he does all the hard defensive gut running behind the scenes. That means they don’t have to do it and can be more attacking.

Obviously a popular bloke at the club and good on him . I hope he proves me and about 50 others on here to be wrong .

“Yeah, Belly does it (the defensive gut running) so I don’t have to”.

Sounds like we may have found the answer to the Gold Coast and Hawthorn games.
