wow its good to see that we're not bringing in underdone players into a final

wont miss jpk/mills that much, imo the game wont be won at the coalface, the ground is too big for that

hewett, rowy, parker feeding the ball out of stoppage to outside players and running gws off their feet will be game over

I sorta see it the opposite. I think we can win enough of the hard ball on the inside like Mills does. We may miss the sense of calm and composure JPK has brought in recent weeks, but I back Hewett to deliver the goods, as he always does.

Any idea if you'll be playing on Haynes this week? You did great against him last year IIRC

I kind of think it's a bit of both.

Mills for his pure football contribution I think will be missed more.

But Kennedy, especially in finals, has this ability to will himself and his team to resist tidal flows and overcome seemingly insurmountable hurdles.

As he did against GWS earlier this year.

Yep, also means that if we do go through, we have more chance of bringing a fit Mills and JPK into the side, which is crucial to how far we can go this year. Reckon it's better to bow out in an Elimination Final because we tried to set ourselves up for a shot at the flag than throwing everything at the first week of finals.

TICKETS ON SALE !!!!
So, they have released a bunch of new tickets. So, if any Tassie Swans missed out, now is your chance. Be quick.

I managed to get some finally.

Look at GWS’s midfield it’s their strength. We aren’t close with Mills and Kennedy out.
We are not close in bullocking. No. But at getting ball out and taking away, we were much better last week. GWS mids are fairly slow. We can outpace them big time. The other thing is that against really fast midfield GWS mids have a tendency to drop off because they can't possibly catch them. We used to have the same problem. Still do with Joey, Parker and Hewett or Mills in there together.

Heeney, Paps, Gulden, Rowie, Chaddy and Ollie running through there creates doubt in the minds of the GWS mids. Green, Hopper, Ward, Kelly, Cognillio, Taranto, DeBoer and even O'Halloran are not super quick. Not like Paps, Gulden, Chaddy, Ollie etc.

surprised to see them omit Campbell. I guess they feel he is still finding his feet at the level and doesn't know his limitations yet (man's got to know his imitations) whereas Bell can be trusted to do the team thing and keep it simple.
I have been feeling the team has been drinking its own cool-aid a tiny bit at times and try to be too clever. I'm sure this gets dealt with during reviews.
Yep, I'd say Errol may be the primary offender here. Ever since the commentators started raving about his passing ability and decision making he has started overthinking and making clangers. 🙁

You have the relatively rare opportunity to watch live tomorrow. So actually watch. Have in mind the places that he runs to and the impact that has on the players from GWS moving the ball out of defence. The indecision it causes. Note how he rarely stands the mark, allowing another to have that “rest”. Instead runs hard to the next defensive position.

Bruce , even though we disagree a lot I respect your view , you may not believe it

So I will watch him bloody closely

I don’t deny the endeavour, I am being flippant with calling him rubbish

But I just think I need a player to do more and actually impact the play himself

Not run around helping others , when really with two way running and defensive schemes they all should be doing this

players who take the game on are going to make mistakes (especially first-year teenagers!), but they also create opportunities ... as we've seen this season with gulden, mcinerney, warner, blakey, et al ...
young players such as them have made this just about the most exhilarating sydney team i've seen
no blakey, but i hope (and believe) the other three will revel in finals footy and have a big say in a win tomorrow

GWS bring in Coniglio, Green and Mumford.

We bring in ...... Bell.

:cryv1:

They bring in two players who are of doubtful fitness and might not run out the game. Green has not played for at least 3 weeks and Cognillio didn't look right last time out sand was dropped to the twos. He is still yet to play a full game.

Chad Warner has been given plenty of game time over the last week and is 3 games back. He should be fighting fit.

Bell is an interesting selection. I have a feeling he was selected so as to put the opposition under huge pressure and the player who this pressure will be directed at? Probably Idon. He has been the player who starts their attacking moves out of defence. He and Whitfield have been extremely damaging. Whitfield from a wing and Idon fro HB. Whitfield will have to run both ways against Dawson or McInerney. That isn't going to suit Lachie. He like to be the hunted but doesn't like hunting.

We need to be careful of Mummy. He has nothing to lose. If they lose he is retired a long time. If they win he goes on for another week at least. i think he will deliberately try to injure Hickey. Hickey has to be aware of him and his dirty tactics. Look what he did to Kennedy previously.

i’ve heard “f’ed if I know” expressed re: Brandon Jack
Brandon's just released a book (and it's said to be very good) so perhaps we'll all know now.

Not sure he's been drinking his own cool-aid so much as he just might be overthinking as you say. Played a bit more inside over the last month and just being in the contest more can make your general play a bit more pressured and less tidy. It sorta seeps into everything else you do as it requires a different tempo to play at. So he's probably just not kicking as freely and naturally as he was for most of the season.

In spite of this, he's still good for one or two great kicks a game lately, which is more than we can expect from the bulk of the team. (Not a knock on them, more a testament to how quality Errol's foot skills still are.)

I suspect (not know) that something they've sussed out is that the 2 way running has impacted on skills.

I'm oversimplifying but it's a thing I particularly noticed with Towers a few years ago in a game against St Kilda. Whilst maligned, he really ran hard back and filled holes in defence.

The more the likes of Papley and Gulden in the forward line, or Kennedy and Parker and Mills in the middle, are relieved of this responsibility the more damaging they are going forward.

I'd be interested to see whether Florent is playing a similar type role as that may go some way to explaining his sometimes lousy kicking.

So use Kennedy, Parker, Mills, Dawson, Blakey etc to go forward and rely on Florent, Wicks, Bell to be the players you know will default to working back.
