Elite has lost all meaning in reference to football. Anyone who strings a couple of games together now is elite, any player who has had a good year is in the elite category. There is a difference between very very good, and elite. The term elite should be reserved for the the absolute best, ffs we shouldn't have to clarify that ablett is above elite because he is so much better then the others put in that category, thats why he is elite, because he is so much better then everyone else.

Stanton's team actually beat Fremantle, and he also had a bigger impact in that victory than Deledio did in his team's defeat.

Deledio hasn't really ever gotten the hard tag in the past and in both the Freo and Geelong game, he got toweled up by both Crowley and Hunt. A common criticism of Stanton was that he struggles with a tag; I agree but why is Deledio not held to the same standards?

You made mention that Deledio restricted Mundy's influence in the game and apparently played well, but I can guarantee I can dig up numerous quotes from the Richmond forum, complaining about the lack of effort he put into breaking the Crowley tag and his overall limited influence over the entire game. So don't pretend that he didn't play poorly.

Depends what you call elite. I tend to think of it as the top 5%. Of the 100 or so "midfielders" getting a game each week, this would mean that only 5 or 6 could be called elite in my books.

???? lids has been tagged as far back as off the half back flank. Its just that there isnt many taggers like a crowley in the comp.

I would suggest you dont see this double teaming(ie sending the taggee/tagger to a second player) on a tv coverage and since there wasnt many tiger fans at the ground it was hard to tell.

Deledio had no impact on the game at all. That doesn't mean he is not an elite midfielder however. One average game does not mean he is an average player. Nor does, 2 or 3 or even a whole season. If you work on this criteria no player in the history of the game is elite.
