Player Watch Father-Son Pick #60 (2021) - Jase Burgoyne

Despite being an unabashed Jase Burgoyne fanboi I think that's a bit generous tbh. I could see Jase developing to be able to find the ball like Errol, but he's not half as good a ball user.

I'm not a "Champion Data" fanboy, but did stumble across the following from the weekends games:

Lots of love for Jase, but .... Errol Gulden?

He's the best tackler in the team and the next best isn't even close.

I think you could buy an argument from Willem Drew.

Thoughts on todays game?

I thought he went when he needed to go.

Would have been in our top 10?
Just such a good player. Terrible kick for goal, absolutely woeful. But everything else he does is brilliant. He is kind of the opposite of his father at the same stage of their careers. Peter was silky and slick and skilful, but not known for being a ferocious contested ball winner. Jase’s kicking is mechanical and shaky but his reliability in the contest and tackle is superb. Great gut runner too.

Kept his feet all game when at times it would have been much easier to squib and go to ground.

I've never seen a player with his lanky and lean (scrawny) frame consistently out body his opponent.

Quietly putting on a very good season. Needs to tidy up on his kicking though. It feels like every time he kicks, it's only going like 30 metres with those stick legs but somehow he kicks further than that. :tearsofjoy:

Start of the last quarter. Butters wins free kick 55m from goal after a high tackle. Remonstrating between Rozee and Crouch. Rozee sticking up for his mate - which is a thing of beauty - but it is going on for a while and last thing we need is a high jumper punch or push down that reverses the ball. Young Jase Burgoyne at just the right time leans in to tell him to stop now and concentrate on the footy. Loved the maturity. Loved Rozee’s toughness too. But loved Jase’s leadership.

Can still remember Jase taking down Thilthorpe in a big tackle tonight. There’s not much off him but knows how stick a tackle

Wrapped Tickets up and brought him to ground. All those beach muscles for nothing.

Burgoyne's courage is fabulous. So slight but he absolutely puts himself in the firing line when he has to and wins the ball. Definition of a Port Adelaide player.

His ground and foot skills are continuing to improve, some super clean pick ups and passes last night.

I also look forward to seeing him play alongside younger but bigger brother Rome who also appears to have the same skill set.

Jase is an enigma. Posters are saying he tackles well - I see him putting in half hearted tackle efforts and then brings down the biggest opponent. Somehow his scrawny body stands up to AFL pressure football. Somehow he wins one on one balls. He racks up possessions and never looks flustered or tired.
His body needs some big work on it in the off season and he could emulate Dad one day.

Thought he played very well last night - just kept finding the ball. Quick enough but none of the explosive acceleration that his father had. Question mark is still whether you can see him streaming forward from the wing and kicking goals or otherwise cutting defences apart.
