I think he has lost a couple of yards of pace this year.

He would be a good option if free, but I wouldn't pay what the Dees would want for him in a trade

Unrestricted means we make an offer, and if Melbourne cant match it he walks to us and the AFL give Melbourne a compensation pick.

TBH we have declared our hand for a couple years now with the knowledge of free agency that Benny Gale brought with him, we made it aware that we were setting up all our contracts for free agency and that we will be a major player in it.

Moloney for me is the exact type of player we should be targeting, his value will be at its lowest, and Melbourne have loaded up on Mitch Clarke.

I have faith in the systems the club has in place to turn certain aspects of a players life/game around, Houli and his perceived softness, Martin and his supposed off field issues.

We also have guys like Adam Maric and Brad Miller at our club, both guys played with Moloney and will know him well, I'm sure we could get both of these guys to get into his ear and tell him just how good it is at Richmond. ;)

Sorry to jump in, I'm speaking from a corner here because we really are terrible.

But if you were to pick an ex-demon to speak to Brent about leaving, Maric would be a close third in the 'DON'T' list, behind Johnson and Brock. His attitude stank, hows he doing at Richmond?

Haven't heard anything about Adam Maric's attitude.

Do you know something that we don't?

The problems that I heard were that he lacked motivation and didn't go the extra yard when it was required.

Showed when he played in our jumper.

How's he doing at the Tigers?

looks ok in patches, personaly i dont think he will make it. mostly because we already have king and nahas who are doing a great job.
in my opinion it goes

king / nahas

edwards

maric

Um, doesn't it just mean that he walks if he wants to, regardless of the money?

AFAIK, that's correct for an unrestricted free agent. For restricted free agents their existing club has the opportunity to match the rival club's offer.

IMO, just because we've signalled our intention to pursue a "big fish" via free agency, doesn't mean we need to go hard this year (someone has already made this very good point). I'm sure our recruiters would be looking further ahead to players who will become available over coming years.

was promising in pre season, thought he was good in r1 and stiff to be dropped, couple of runs since havent been good enough to hold a spot

If anything - Richmond should be going after Troy Chaplin, he's still only 26 and might fancy a return back to Victoria (given the state Port are in).

I think he might fill a greater hole in your list than somebody like Moloney would?

Hit the nail on the head there C4. The thing is that I really cant understand, well i do understand, is all the Moloney love in here. He is your run of the mill hard player who you basically should be able to develop, rather than waste our money on.
I said I can understand it purely because its the nature of the available cattle in the up coming free agency market. Tigerheads and other club supporter desperate for improvement see the next available as some messiah for our cause, when all he is, is the best of an average bunch in terms of inside mids. Yeah Goddard, but players like Goddard will stick it out as one club players more often than not. So all the talk about him is pissing in the wind IMO. ;)

Agree with both of you.
I think Moloney is a good player, and if he wants to come to the RFC, then I say he is more than welcome, but I wouldn't be moving heaven and earth to get him.
Chaplin gets a bad rap purely because he plays for a poor team. He is viewed upon as a lot of our players were, and still are. Undervalued because they play for a poor team.
But he can play, has a heart the size of a basketball and I will maintain we need another good tall defender.

I like the Merrett call and would happily throw some serious coin at him. Is a very very good gorilla FB and would compliment our defence beautifully.

All these players are FREE so it would be good to get on.

Chris Knights is the one on the outer that I would be looking at.

If we picked up Merrett and Knights then that would go a long way to filling some of our deficencies.

Although I think merrett will stay put and pretty sure he is from QLD.
