"Yesterday’s game against Fremantle, we learnt a lot. We possessed the ball a lot and had many opportunities but we just couldn’t make the most of them and our defence broke down a little bit at stages"
For **** sake Ollie. You would think that they would realise they've been repeating the same shit week after week for years now.

Bloody hell, expect Rucci and Timmy G to get a call down to the club and a stern talking to for daring question King Kenny's gameplan.

They need to learn about the club with Warren. Maybe Richo could facilitate a group session in his office. Holly can swing by for a group hug session.

Our mids have been s**t ever since Voss left.

although when Voss was here, everyone blamed him too.
Voss got a rough deal on big footy imo. It is not a surprise that our midfield was strong with the Voss/Schofield combo. And turned to shit immediately after. Those thinking Carr is going to make a difference are in for a disappointment

Possessed the ball a lot except had 52 less touches than Fremantle….. right.

You can expect a stern talking to today from the Gestapo down at Alberton HQ and Tim will deny he ever said such a thing when the Sports Show starts at 4 today

They'll tell him to shut up and learn more about the club, then help us become carbon neutral

We need to sharpen up on the basics.
A couple of thoughts:
Port are a poor tackling side and have been for awhile.
Robbie Gray carried this club on his shoulders for over a decade. Sorely missed.
Our backline lacks class. Could Boaky hold down a flank?
Jnr Burger will become a star midfielder. Could he be given some moments on the ball?
Lycett... I'm a fan but is so rusty. Hayes is decent tap ruck but is passenger around the ground.
I still think we will play finals. Even top six if we are 3/2.

On a more positive note.

I though JHF made a huge improvement on last week's game.

He's genuinely quick as, and really started to get in and under, and read the ruck taps really well towards the end of the game.

I don't think I've ever seen someone in our side sprint so hard to tackle an opponent (to the point that he's overtaking other team mates who are also chasing)

He got a pretty rough run from the umpire, probably due to him being over-zealous at times.

A few errant kicks into the forward line, i can't figure out if it's entirely his fault or if there is just no good options from our forwards. Maybe a bit of both.

Last thing we need down back is serial sprayer Travis Boak. We didn't miss him at all yesterday.

It was pretty obvious during the game that the umpires were instructed to let only one team win the game, so the actual score itself was meaningless. Two times a Fremantle player encroached into a Port players protected area after a mark only for the umpire to say play on, both which resulted in goals, then the ridiculous Dixon 50m penalty.

Overall, you have to accept the fact that we were playing a potential top four side and premiership contender, so of course the ball movement is going to be stifled. That being said, the fact that Charlie Dixon was the only person to hit up a leading forward the whole game tells me our transition from half-forward is still ****ing rubbish. You either get it in quick, long and deep or you work the angles to hit up a leading forward. This half-assed bullshit is like Mr. Miyagi says in Karate Kid: Walk on road. Walk right side, safe. Walk left side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later, get the squish just like grape.

Guys you don't have to worry about: Bergman, Burton, Butters, Burgoyne, Rozee, Powell-Pepper, Wines.

Guys you don't need to worry about except for injury: Fantasia.

Guys that didn't do their case for R1 any harm: Evans.

The biggest worry is Georgiades. When Dixon and Marshall are getting swamped in the forward line, that's when Georgiades needs to work harder because he's going to be one on one.

Horne-Francis needs to be less exuberant with his tackling - most of the decisions the umpires made against him were there. Yes, you could say there were some bullshit holding the ball decisions but the new interpretation of holding the ball is you don't get a pass just because your teammate sold you into trouble.

If Teakle thought he was anywhere near R1 selection, he just rubbed his name off with that absolutely stupid kick to true centre half back while under pressure. Incredibly stupid football that cost a goal.

Duursma was looking much better but I don't like his delivery inside 50. Time to tidy that up.

Byrne-Jones is no longer a certainty for selection everyone is fit. Houston, Burton, Burgoyne are locks for half back, then you can raffle the last spot between Byrne-Jones, Bonner and Farrell. Or you can play Burton as the third tall and pick two of those three.

We missed Boak's gut running.

Dixon looked like a guy who hadn't played a game in weeks - which he hadn't.

Marshall needs to slot the limited opportunities he's going to get.

Lycett got absolutely toweled up by Darcy and didn't offer much of anything around the ground. Granted, he was anally r*ped with the strap-on from Seven by the umpires on two occasions - the 'dropped' mark that he actually controlled that led to one goal and the play on call when a Fremantle player was within 5 meters of the protected area - but he needs to do a lot better.

Special mention: Pavlich needs to **** off from commentating.

Odds are only 1 or 2 of them will, if any.

And I know this board has a height fetish at both ends of the ground but the smalls are just as concerning.
Cause smalls are easy to come across if needed, look at the turnover of small forwards in the 2 years. Easy come easy go

Holly talking about toxic masculinity while chad sits at the back jaggin' it to hustler

JHF is obviously ******* somebodys wife and they are going to do their best to umpire him out of the game.

The worse treatment of an individual player by group of umpires I think I have ever seen.

Robbie Gray - like every 2nd week for 15 years. Some hyperbole here. The umpiring was shit and he was in the middle and got plenty of the ball so he copped more shit than others. I wouldn't read any more into it other than umpires being shit with shit rules like every other year.

This is just what happens when 4 umpires are from 1 state

Last year we sleep walked through the pre season and first six rounds.

I wouldn’t say we are asleep this time we just aren’t good enough.

Given the list we have I find that so frustrating.

We experienced too many “lost” seasons where we struggle to win ten games and this year I’m starting to feel that way again this year.

Some teams can cruise these trial games and then flick a switch.
Port can’t do that and their trial game form is a pretty accurate indicator of how they are going.
The list isn't that good. Apparently it is on paper but the sum of the parts when you actually analyse it isn't that good. That's the trap everyone seems to fall for.

Last season is a true indicator of what we actually are, not a outlier.
