Davies was not decent by any measure. There's a reason he was subbed off in a game where Sydney had three talls and we had only one other KPD. McLean had 6 contested marks on him. He was very far off it.
Not a bad game for a kid in his second game. A pressure game all day. He applied pressure . He was subbed probably to get more legs and pace into the back line.
Harsh to criticise him.

Because Amartey and McDonald were non factors and we needed more run to match Sydney late and man their dangerous smalls? I just figured that’s why we made the sub.

And Davies wasn’t on McLean all day. His two goals were when he was matched up with Ryan and Draper after all.

I'm not blaming him. He's in his second game. But he was comfortably beaten and I don't know why we're pretending otherwise.

Some are very very hard to please when all they see is a kid playing his second game make a couple of errors. Watvh the entire game and singlout the errors made by ALL our players, you will gind plenty.
Hard to take when all you can do is criticise a kid rathef than praise the team for a magnificrnt fighting victory.
Suffer in your tears.

He did have Mclean while Draper had Amartey. Certainly an easier match-up. Maybe the match-ups were the issue.

Davies is obviously going to have more obvious and costly errors than other players because of the position he plays??? That doesn't change the fact that they were costly. I thought he was good last week despite only one touch, but he was far off it this week. We don't need to pretend that every player played a blinder just because we won. Davies is in a spot where we have an experience guy in his position that could be available next week. Of course he's going to be talked about.

Why does the commentators barrack for Sydney so much? Like how are they the darlings?
COLA, Academy, getting Lance Franklin for free when AFL set up GWS to get him.
They’re not even close to handicapped.

Fremantle- no father son, no academy, no free agents.

They always barrack for the team that is behind. It is their job to keep the viewers from switching channels.

Never said he played a blinder, but played his role. All players made mistakes, you point out only his errors. An error is an error regardless.

You can always nominate a dangerous player and say we could use a player like that. You could say that Sturt was dangerous every time he went near it so is Sturt=Papley? At the end of the day we have to look at our forward line as a collective whole and ask ourselves is it going to be dangerous enough - for mine at the moment (putting Walters aside for a second):
  • Amiss - decent full forward with dangerous ground ability for a tall who can become an elite forward of the competition because of his leading patterns.
  • Treacy - good brutish centre half forward who can provide a get out of jail mark up field, gets up and down the ground and puts pressure on
  • Jackson - 200cm tall forward with massive mobility for a guy that size who on his day is unlikely to be outmarked or go into the ruck. Has x factor galore and can kick 4 goals on a good day as well as provide a get of jail mark.
  • Sturt - "doesn't miss" forward who plays well both as a leading forward and as a crumber. Has kicked 4 goals in a game a few times.
  • Frederick - endurance based half forward who gets to the right positions from a team perspective, but can be dangerous with speed and kicking when it is his turn.
  • Switkowski - speedy pressure forward who can sustain extreme pressure for a period in the forward line. Number of goals is a little down from other forwards in the competition. Can also pinch hit in the midfield to add speed.
  • Banfield - another medium that is good in the air and can run all day, and is kicking goals both on a lead and as a crumber. Can also play wing.
And then we rotate midfielders through as well. I think the weakest links are Switkowski and Banfield, but are they so weak that it is not good enough? I don't think so. Cooper Simpson sits as a similar player to Frederick and Switkowski, and with another preseason will be another option there who may kick slightly more goals than say a Switkowski.
Actually surprised at the addition of Young forward resting when Brayshaw is in the middle. Been outstanding in that role last two weeks

Steady on.
Already had McDonald and Amartey who had Pearce’s measure last time they met.
Add another tall to any defence, and it’ll be a hard day.
McLean does this regularly for Sydney.

Well done Freo! Second win in a row at the SCG which not many teams can claim. Putting together a solid home and away campaign and definitely a strong chance to go deep in September.
Been a weird season that’s for sure.
Imagine having won v Carlton instead. Would’ve been 2nd. Even add losing to West Coast, Port and Bulldogs.

Top 2 is possible. What a crazy close season

i think thats poor coaching. banfield doesn't have the pace to deal with blakely. banfield works well as a defensive forward when playing on intercept markers. blakely seems to be at his most damaging when hes playing as a runner. perhaps we should have tried fredericks, sturt on him
Think you are right in that Freddy with his leg speed could have being a better match in the last 15/20mins given the way momentum was going If you watch the replay of the last 2 mins Banners stood 10 metres off him in the final bounary throw in, crazy tatic
