Sinclair may be a contingency plan if Clarke walks next year.

Reimers knocking back the chance to train with Carlton after coming out and giving this interview.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2012-11-03/not-done-yet-reimers.default?

It does seem fishy.
Yeh, but surely Moeller is our contingency? As for Reimers - if he wasn't good enough for the Bummers rabble, then how could he possibly step up for us? If we're gonna take someone unexpected I would rather take Garlett any day. Iron out his problems and at least we know the kid can play!

Moeller is going to need another 3 pre seasons to come up to the mark, Sandi has probably got a couple of years left, tops.

Griffen will be around, but if Clarke walks we're left with Griffen and a kid who isn't ready in 2 years time.

So then we trade or PSD for another one then. 2013 is what we must consider right now. Pav needs someone ready to go to help him down there now (Hardy would be perfect). We are a legitimate shot at a flag this year. Can't keep on topping up with "future" when the future has already arrived.
Just my opinion anyway - but Clarke aint gonna get much better and may be offloaded by seasons end even if he doesn't walk.

So then you'd think that we'd address the issue sometime over the next 2 years - seeing what's on offer from other clubs, given that the norm each year is that some decent ruck prospects do the whole musical chairs thing. Sinclair would be a bad call, who lets face it - if we did take him, mightn't possibly even be with us still in 2 years.

Clubs tend to see ruckmen as viable cheap trade options now, maric to richmond, griffin to us, jacobs to adelaide and that is a big reason why brodie grundy, who has been touted as a future star fell to pick 18. I dont think we need to address our ruck stocks right away, and if we decide we need on next year, then chase a third stringer with talent from another club

There could always be a chance we don't take any of the guys training with us, hell we overlooked Lee & Mitchell last year. Maybe none of these guys are ticking the boxes the coaches have mapped out for all we know.

Spewing i'm gonna miss the PSD/Rookie drafts, damn ultrasound and determining the sex of the kid getting in the way of my footy.

Very inconvenient. I feel your pain man.:D

He seemed to be grasping for a quick answer on that one. Nearly choked on my toast! I reckon he has NFI and will be proved as such. Why would we take a knob + another ruckman type? Especially when we have hopeful kpp's coming out of our ears at training over the last coupla weeks. Usually don't mind Haggers....... but really???

Iwas the bloke who rang in and asked that question but was totally surprised by the names he put up.Reimers is one we don't need and why suggest another ruck man?
KPP's have to be the way to go

Oh, by the way. Congratulations on your impending new arrival. I know your excited really.

Could not agree more. I also think that we would be mad to re draft Crichton but according to the afl site we we not only re draft him but bring him back onto the senior list.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2012-12-06/clubs-shy-away-from-psd

I would much rather we cut him totally and give some talented youngster a go. Most importantly we get Key Position Forwards, hopefully on the main list. Would really like us to give Garlett a go as a rookie as I believe in our player development. We certainly don't need a player like Crichton who is about 15th in line for a gig that offers only a few positions.

We need players who are going to make us a better team, not more of the same with no plan for the future.

Do the right thing Freo!!!

Now I've not heard anything and this is pure speculation, but is there any love for Nick Winmar as a possibility for the Rookie Draft? I appreciate that he's not a KPP, but I'd rate his upside as better than someone like Reimers or Crighton.

Just as long as you're sure who the father is Nickos :D.
First one?

I would not be surprised if we select from outside the list of players who are training with us. I like the sounds of Walshe who Humble Mignon profiles here;

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/2012-big-footy-phantom-psd-zone-and-rookie-draft.982690/page-2

Walshe is a bit of a favourite of mine, and has probably gone a bit more under the radar than he deserves. Kpd with excellent height at 197cm, and his very long arms make him a spidery spoiler who is very hard to take marks against. His closing speed is exceptional, and makes up slightly for the fact that he perhaps doesn't alway read the ball coming in as well as his opponents. Very rarely got scored heavily against, even by top opponents. I've seen him put in a very good performance on Tim Membrey in the VC/VM practise game where he was just reaching over Membrey from behind and plucking them contemptuously, and in a game I didn't see he kept Daniher to a single goal in the last round of the TAC season (although admittedly Calder lost that game by 10 goals and Daniher had at least 3/4 of his brain at Windy Hill after the champs finished). He can take a mark but prefers to spoil in anything like a contested situation, his disposal is competent rather than brilliant, and he works hard with the ball on the ground and can lay quite a few tackles at times.

I see him as a defensive (rather than rebounding) kpd prospect who in the long run will go to the biggest fwd every week and just do his damndest to stop them kicking goals - his height means that he can even take the real giant 197cm+ kpp types like Patton, Tippett, Daniher, etc coming through, and his pace means he can match up with a medium leading type as well if necessary.

Ive been quite vocal in my desire for the club to get a key forward. But in reality, this draft was quite weak according to experts, so how good is this KPF that we rookie list really going to be? Im all for drafting to a needs basis in the national draft, but in the rookie draft, every player obviously has a flaw, so we are probably better off going for best available. Thats not to say we can draft gold key forward rookies, but i just thing its more likely than not we will pick up another sibosado or shepherd. Probably we are better off going with a garlett

Psd: Tippett, Reimers
Rookie: Garlett, Taberner (sp?)

Will do me

If we can pull that off I'll be grinning all summer. That would be an amazing off season. We'd have future proofed our midfield, we'd have some serious support up front for Pav, and an apprentice for McPharlin.

I don't think we'll take Tippett no with half a season on the sidelines to come. Even if it was Reimers, Garlett, Taberner and one of Howson/Chricton/Rodda/Colquhoun that is still a pretty good haul. Even if the knobhead factor is high, we don't need these lads to babysit our kids, just kick a footy.

He apparently returned from his holiday in very poor condition. More than likely he will need to play WAFL this year and show he has the dedication to make it an AFL.

Garlett has more upside and he may not get picked up at all.

As far as I can work out, there are no nominated rookies any more since the change to the rookie list rules
Even under the old rules, I don't think we could have one because we have two veterans
It seems this is a bit of a myth going around Big Footy atm, not sure how it started. Teams with less than 40 senior listed players can nominate a rookie prior to round 1. Tom Bell and Ben Hudson will be two examples.

Tomorrow's draft. Does anyone know what time it starts? I thought it was somewhere around 0800 hours. Fat chance, but is there any broadcast into WA?
