It is definitely click bait…. Even if it turns out to be true (which the club is definitely worried about!!)…

We just have to wait and get the update from club and then react from there…in terms of how sad we will be!

Jon Ralph took exception to the article being called click bait - dude, there's zero actual information in the articlcle providing any sort of update

It's purely an opinion piece about what may or may not be the injury - not an actual update

Thinking Ralphy doing clickbait - but of course what we would know. Only smart media people can define click bait. I am just the dumb person who clicked on something expecting news!!

He's been called out but a couple of us in response to that comment

It's an opinion piece & nothing more - don't care what sort of connections Doc Larkin had, but we know he's been wrong on more than a few occasions in recent years when he's tried to go early on what an injury could be

Even with this article, he simply says that the Hawkins injury is likely a mid-foot issue & not a toe issue (like no shit, pretty sure anyone could have said that), and then he goes on to list multiple issues it could potentially be - I'm no medical professional, but I'm pretty sure that more than a few of them were already suggested on this board on Friday night

"Doc Larkins thoughts on Hawkins injury" would have been a much more accurate headline - definitely didn't get an update by reading it

It’s wild they always go to Doc Larkins and he’s been their only medical expert for years. Not questioning his credentials but sports medicine is always evolving and there’s people they could ask who are actually specialists in specific areas.

Also, why ask when he doesn’t have any actual facts?

Yeah when you ignore that in Dempsey's 14 games he only played a half in 3-4 of them. And then ignore he spent a heap of time sitting deep forward while the ball barely went forward they look the same.

Like Dempsey's game vs Casey where he was left deep forward for the first half while we got smashed then had a lazy 25 touches, 8 clearances and a goal in the second half once moved to midfield.

And of course starts tell you only a fraction of the story. None of those guys are on the same planet talent wise.

And he didn't get promoted to the AFL. In fact, he had 14 disposals, 0.0 the following week in the VFL vs the Swans in a game we won - wow, what an untouchable talent.

My original statement was the form of the blokes in the VFL this year has been as good as Dempsey's was last year - the numbers very clearly back that up. Thanks for cherry picking the stats from one half of one game last year, very helpful and relevant.

Watching the VFL game. Knevitt getting caught holding the ball. Nothing ftom Hardie and Mannagh yet. Lowly Port Melbourne way on top. Geelong's VFL team not looking good coming up to half time. Stanley looks very ordinary.

This. Some supporters need to realise that sometimes Geelong loses, not because they’re the worst team in the AFL, they’re just beaten by a better team. Our game against Sydney would’ve beaten most teams in the AFL.

The worst losses were the Dees, Port and GWS. That’s were we really stuffed up.
Correct! 3 cumulative loses by two goals and everything would look a lot different

The last two games we've lost to the clear top two teams

Except we didn't just lose. We were spanked. Let's face it, we were never in that Sydney game and lost by 6 goals, and we were smashed by Carlton. The reality is we are not competitive and we wouldn't go into any game now expecting a win, even against bottom 4 teams.

He is a Cats supporter, maybe he has connections?
Either way I guess we will find out tomorrow.

Can't stand these self aggrandising attention seeking media whores. Create a conspiracy-oldest PR trick in the book!
Their Nanna's obviously never told them if you got nothing, say nothing. Waste of oxygen.

I used to walk to school with Doc Larkins, who'd have thought. ;) (Peter then)

Revisionist history. We were 5 goals up and got beaten by class punishing our mistakes. Margin was 12 points with 3min left.

You need to watch other teams.

  • Port lost to Brisbane by 79
  • Pies haven’t been flogged but lost to the giants and swans by 30 and were down by around 50 in both games before some junk time goals.
  • Essendon lost to port by 69
  • Freo lost to the dogs by 67 after winning the week earlier by 92. They also lost by 48 to the swans at home and lost to West coast by 37
  • Melbourne lost to Freo by 92 and lost to West Coast by 35, Pies by 38 and nearly lost to the Roos
  • Hawks lost to the swans by 76, the suns by 53 and Dees by 55
  • Brisbane lost to the giants by 53
  • Giants haven’t been flogged but we’re 10goals down against Sydney this week before some respectability goals
  • Dogs lost to the Lions by 43 and Dees by 45
  • Carlton lost to the swans by 53
  • Gold Coast lost to the Swans by 53 and Dogs by 48
You’re telling me that those teams are going to struggle against bottom 4 each week because they’ve been flogged too?

So you're saying the Swans are a several goal better team than any other in the competition. I agree with that. Comparing teams ignoring currency (how they are playing now) is not helpful. I prefer to look at how Geelong is playing now. We have beaten one team in the last 6 weeks, an unconvincing win at home over a decimated bottom 2 team, two embarrassing 10+ goal losses to teams we should have matched up well on. Admittedly we had an honourable 6 goal loss 😜 to the no 1 team but the difference in class was staggering. The way we are playing I can see only 2 likely wins for the rest of the season.

Henry is better than rohan and has much more upside.
But the problem is this gameplan we play of trying to get out the back running towards goal with the forwards doesnt suit henry-hes a lead up forward. This is why he was better under the old gameplan last year. The running back towards goal suits rohan who is quick and can tackle but cant do a lot else.

We need to figure out what forward structure we want without hawkins before we decide who to pick.

Rohan has something Henry doesn't- an old and wise experienced red head- with a stronger body and mad temper to match. He's not afraid to put his body in, doesn't try to mark from behind, is a fearless flyer, defensively determined and driven. Smashes them the way Ollie can't yet. It's comparing a thoroughbred to a colt.

There is now room for them both. Agree we need to play to the strengths of each, and at the same time be smart enough to stop ignoring clearly free players screaming for it in F50 (Holmes, Bowes).

Thanks for proving my point. He was taken off early in the 3rd quarter as hold over emergency in that game. You're talking him down based on only getting 14 touches in a half.

Stevens just got tackled 15m out from goal in the Magoos while going through the gears of his semi-trailer. He is very slow. Mannagh has picked it up, looking most likely to do something.

The fascinating thing here is if you remove pi from opinion you get onion. Don’t you love autocorrect.;)
(Edit) Actually most of Ralph’s work makes you cry so maybe it was intentional 09 ?

Nice edit after your first reply.

Suns have never lost in Darwin and have an average winning margin around 10 goals and Carlton are a an extremely stacked side, who were top 4 last year and will be again. We are a mid table team.

You think Geelong are worse than every other team that is having the same form fluctuations.

Freo lost by 67 a week after winning by 92. If the touched goal isn’t paid, 50m penalty, Daicos HTB, or the last kick is a goal, the pies lose to North, are they no good? Only luck cost us the comeback v Port and GWS.
This year is cooked and every team is having ups and downs.

That is 2 years more preseason as well as 18 months natural development.

And TDK is only just coming into his own over the past month or so.

I know brothers aren’t clones but I do think TDK has shown what we should be looking forward to in terms of SDK’s potential
TDK was a backup ruck prior.

As we know rucks take time to develop. Neale is a year behind through injury.
SDK is 23yo + if continuing to ruck will need time to develop.

I like the idea of looking forward to SDK’s potential.

The VFL today. A disappointing loss by Geelong to a team much lower on the ladder.
Knevitt good but one paced, gets caught in tackles
Conway ok.
Neale ok but he is a terrible set shot
Clohesy a solid game
Hardie below his usual output
Mannagh 2 goals, not much else
Humphries below par
George Stevens a poor game, very slow
Stanley terrible

On today's form you wouldn't be elevating anyone. It's disappointing when you consider some midfield opportunities might be available.

On the vfl game i would be bringing in conway neale mannagh and knevitt for tuohy hawkins mullin and rohan or oconnor (obviously one can stay if danger is suspended) but i doubt we do that.
