"Not remotely comparable" :laughv1: The below looks pretty comparable to me...

View attachment 2027619

Yeah when you ignore that in Dempsey's 14 games he only played a half in 3-4 of them. And then ignore he spent a heap of time sitting deep forward while the ball barely went forward they look the same.

Like Dempsey's game vs Casey where he was left deep forward for the first half while we got smashed then had a lazy 25 touches, 8 clearances and a goal in the second half once moved to midfield.

And of course starts tell you only a fraction of the story. None of those guys are on the same planet talent wise.

‘Certain radical sections’. Hilarious! It was a lifestyle opinion writer in rhe Age giving her opinion, which probably no-one else agrees with, radical or non-radical.
The Age 'lifestyle opinion writer' is allowed to express an opinion ;) Probably a better article than most of the drivel spewed by AFL journos.

Frankly, Play it Sam should be writing AFL articles: superior knowledge, fantastic observations + absolutely entertaining.

No he isn't. Mannagh this year hasn't been remotely close to Dempsey last year. You could watch Dempsey for 10 minutes and he'd make it clear he was the most talented player out there. Mannagh this year has looked a good player at the level but not a stand out.

We will have to agree to disagree on that then.

I know you so want that to be true as you clearly get more joy from Geelong losing than winning

But it ain't even close to accurate
North Melbourne are playing better now. They have a good ruckman and midfield and they actually run out games. I honestly think Geelong would be a 50/50 proposition on current form.

Chris Scott - "we're not going to say, oh well, now we're 8 and 6, we're going to be rebuilding... We haven't done that for 14 years, not going to start now. "
Chris Scott will be thinking outside-the-box to address their midfield issues, and we could see from fresh faces.

I'll believe it when I see it, Scotty.

Norths midfield is good but their defence is still thin and wont handle cameron. We will win that one.

Look, there's a future for all of them. But of those 3-4 you speak of, the MC has seen fit to elevate only Mannagh (twice) and Humphries as emergencies. For what it's worth, but you could say encouragement/communication.
The comparison to other players is difficult, too many factors.
Hardie has been named as an emergency 2 weeks running. Just setting the record straight.

And despite limited game time he was in the vfl team of the year

Is Tomahawk's injury a rolled ankle or something more serious. Might be a good opportunity for Neale to get a block of contiguous games.

I think we make the 8 so, sorry Jed
If we don’t bring in anyone like a Smith to bolster our midfield (I do expect something to come in).

I wouldn’t blink at picking us to be bottom 4.

Still could push bottom 4 every if we just added Smith.

So much leadership will be going out the door and the older guys that stay on will only get older.

We gotta hold onto our F1 this trade period.

Agree our future first could be anything, but North became North because they couldn't attract trade in players and had to rely on the draft, which doesn't work in isolation

cant wait for finals, when the dangerous tackle rule disappears
Us......when we dispossess the bloke with the ball, it's a dangerous tackle. So we tackle without taking the player to ground, the oppo player dishes off (or throws, or 'gives') the ball to a team-mate, not H.T.B, nor incorrect disposal.

I know it's a long time ago now, but back in the days of standard local home grounds, usually by this time of year getting tossed to the ground in a tackle would be pretty harmless on what would normally be soft ground. But with Telstra Dome and the 'G' often being dry due to the concrete effect and stuff, a head hit is much more significant. Recall that game the cats played norf at Canberra in 2006, where the centre square was actually dried dirt, and we lost Ling and GAJ within minutes of the game starting due to being crunched into that surface?

Feel sorry for Danger, he just about lost a Brownlow when he tackled that klutz Kruizer who has always been made of glass in 2017, and he's been pinged for what he played his first 28 years or so just playing normal, hard competitive footy.

Carlton were very good on Friday night- they would have beaten most teams. We should still win a few more games this year.
This. Some supporters need to realise that sometimes Geelong loses, not because they’re the worst team in the AFL, they’re just beaten by a better team. Our game against Sydney would’ve beaten most teams in the AFL.

The worst losses were the Dees, Port and GWS. That’s were we really stuffed up.

While we are on bad decisions how was the ball being punched out of Cameron's hands in the goal square after a mark...
James Hird was paid a mark just like that in 1995 against Geelong, a microsecond in his control. And by contrast poor old Zac Guthrie gets manhandled whilst backing back for a mark in the defensive area, loses the handle thanks to a front on challenge and seagull Curnow gets the goal.

If SDK in the ruck doesn't count as trying something different what does?
SDK playing ruck was on Friday, Scott's comments were after the game.

Clearly Scott was speaking of the future:
"I don't think we WILL be passive"
"I don't think we WILL be conservative"
"We are just not GOING to roll out the same thing"
"There might be a few things on the horizon"

I dunno. Getting flogged by 10 goals at almost full strength is a bad loss I would have thought. Especially against a team we beat 6 weeks ago.

I'm certainly not saying we are going to be uncompetitive like North has been for many years.

More that I won't be surprised to see us occupying the same portion of the ladder as them.

It would be interesting to see at ladder from R8 onwards... We'd be pushing dead last.
