Yes, it makes sense. Although you'd think they've got an eye on Sully, 79 is better - far better - than pick 15 in the rookie draft, which is what they'd be using if they upgraded Walker. Although it is the low end of the draft, there will still definitely be players hanging around that you'd want for two years.Dylan Roberton at 79? CS link?
To me it just makes no sense to use P79 unless they have something locked into that pick. It pushes the rookie squeeze back a year and in all likelihood we would have to use a much better pick than 79 to promote a rookie next year. Even if they didn't rate Walker that highly, they'd be better off putting him up this year on a one year deal, than taking a draftee on a two year deal. That way if he takes another step, he is already on the list and we don't have to clear the extra space at the end of next year, or if he has an average year, they don't have an obligation beyond 2013 either way.
