He's had enough experience and he's a good player as well...but today wasn't his day.
I like the guy but you need to be better than that.
Fair enough- I’m happy to give him another week or two- which he may well get now. Think he’d be handy against Sydney.

The first half gave me hope that we can get back to our 2022 form sometime this year, but our second half was rubbish.

West Coast are a crap team and have so many of their best 22 missing at the moment. The way they moved the hall with ease and scored heavily in the second half is worrying. Also worrying was our terrible inside 50 entries. Dish that up against a top 12 team and we’ll struggle to win.

Fox saying Stanley could be is trouble for dangerous tackle. Stengle potential broken wrist, might be a few changes next week. Lets hope the talk of Heeney being in doubt is true.

Also think we missed Bews run from the back.
Bews at his best would be missed but not the way he has played so far this year.

The midfield is still a bit of a worry. When we aren’t winning we look absolutely horrible and our whole game brakes down. When we get on top in there then it looks like we are invincible.

I would love to see a Bruhn or somebody else come good. We really need another option.

I’d also like to see Duncan further up the ground. It’s a myth he’s this great half back. He’s avoids contact at all costs. When the whips were cracking last year he played much further up. Bowes has actually looked a composed user the last two weeks. Not high stats but he makes great decisons. Can he do it against better opposition than the rubbish we have played the last two weeks time wi
Who goes out when Bews comes back?
If Bews comes back. He has been out of form.

I was thinking Dempsey might be a good option for next week with Stengle out. He can sneak a goal and can run very good. Dempsey and Holmes on the wings might very well be our future.
I agree. But don’t think it will happen given how important the game is and the opponent. I hope they have the courage to try it and give it a few weeks but reckon they will have Rohan come back in and be conservative in any other changes

are they playing dempsey as a midfielder? i see he is racking up 20+ touches a game now. If they are, i like it.
Still as a HHF - although against Hawks he played second half on the wing (as they ball didn’t get into the midfield).

But as a HHF it seems like he gets a lot of lattitude to run where he wants as he was all over the ground in last couple of games - reflected in the 27 and 23 possession games..

Long term I like him as a wing…and think he might be better suited to the zoning and speed of AFL vs VFL

Don’t reckon he will get in next week (Rohan of even simpson ahead for that spot) but hopefully he gets a shot over coming weeks

Easy to rack up possessions when subbed on when everything is going right and the opposition is cooked, people are going to tell it like it is on an open forum, hes been woeful this year.
Well, came on today when we were flying- clearly a continuity-confidence issue.

Don't get too excited, so far we've beaten the two bottom teams on the ladder and lost to the third from bottom and lost to Colingwood and Carlton. Luckily we are back at GMHBA stadium next week.

Takeaways from that game:
  • Sticks Kernahan was sensational in the first half.
  • Worked out the down the field free kick to Close was because the Eagles player fell into his back after he kicked it.
  • Eagles will need to trade in a car if they want to improve.
  • <long pause>...Kelly.
  • Found out Ginbey was subbed off 10 minutes after it was shown on TV.
  • Kath was beaten by the Kiss of Death.
  • Something about Rory Sloane.

If we play like that against Sydney we will lose by 6-10 goals.

So inconsistent and smashed at times around the ball and on transition.

Very unimpressed

We’re playing in patches. We’ve shown we can pile on multiple goals without reply, but we’ve also shown we can be easily cut open across the park and scored against, which has been a major problem for the first 5 games.

The game against the swans will be won or lost at the source, in the guts.

O. Henry being called Close about 15 times stiff. :drunk:

We need the next thread

That is spot-on, and appears to be hot and cold this year.
Stanley and Blic were very good today, as was Danger. Smith and Holmes were also good.
Atkins and CG will need to be at their best .

Yeah, I forgot about Rohan being out... He was having a pretty decent year too imho.
You give O Henry, Hawkins, Cameron, and Rohan plenty of supply, and goals won't be an issue.
Rohan for Stengle seems very logically.

And Close, Miers

Obviously would have liked us to really go on and put a Pac-Man score on them but as much as there are a lot of comments saying we let them back into it, we dropped off etc, I actually got the impression that the only reason the Eagles were able to hit back was because we kept attacking. How many times during their run of 7-8 goals out of 10 did they take possession and we had 1 or 0 players behind the centre square? We were pushing up and trying to attack and score goals.

In a game that we already have total control of I don’t mind that - another week if our decision making is a bit better with the ball we pile on another 6-7 goals.

I would like to think that if we got a roll-on against a stronger opponent and they stemmed the bleeding with a couple of quick goals, we would go into a more defensive mode and start again.

Hawkins played with much more confidence and looked closer to his physical peak, Cameron was quiet outside of one burst but still worked hard. Miers is the most improved player in the side IMO. He is really willing himself to contests and winning his own ball.

Ratugolea’s marking has improved out of sight and so has his reading of the play but his lack of physical presence in any situation other than a marking contest pisses me off. When the ball is on the ground he occasionally squibs it and he should be the guy setting the standard for running hard at the ball and anyone in his way.
