Can players be added to the VFL squad over the coming days or only removed? All seven of the AFL inclusions are named in the VFL squad except Stanley - does that mean he's a lock for the senior team?

Stanley named in the ruck, the rest are on the extended interchange in the AFL.

You can't name someone in the starting 18 at AFL level and also in the VFL.

Stanley either plays or he is a late out and ineligible to play VFL this weekend.

Not sure that's true anymore

Stanley was named in the starting 18 for our round 1 match - then on the Friday he was declared too injured to play AFL but ok to play VFL so he ended up playing our final VFL practice match.

Smith was named as our starting ruck for our round 2 match versus Hawthorn, and then when the squad was cut from 26 to 22, he was dropped from the starting ruck role, initially named as an emergency and played VFL on the Sunday instead - then during the VFL game he was withdrawn as an emergency and Thurlow replaced him on the emergency list.

So something might have changed around the rules of eligibility for playing VFL

So game finishes at around 3.20 seniors don't start till 4.40. Wtf what happened to the curtain raiser.. start the game at 1.30

This is from an article last month:

*Clubs will warm up in the rooms after the AFL decreed players will only be permitted to enter the arena an hour or two before matches - if there is no curtain-raiser - then 11 minute before the bounce.
The VFL released its fixture late last year that included a number of proposed curtain-raisers with the proviso they would be “confirmed in the new year”.
Geelong’s VFL team has several games at GMHBA Stadium before the Cats play at the same venue.*

Our matches weren't listed under the proposed curtain raiser - so I would hazard a guess that the reason for the 1hour+ gap between the expected end of the VFL and the start of the AFL match is to meet the previous requirements regarding the time the AFL sides were allowed on the ground.

VFL practice match wouldn't come with the same requirements.

The Smith one is interesting though but perhaps they get more wriggle room due to the Monday game. Perhaps if they changed Stanley to emergency tonight in the finalised team they could play him VFL still.

I've said for years that there's 2 Rhys Stanley's.

Is anyone going to the vfl game today? I’d love to hear some reports on Abbott, Gardner, House and Crameri. Well any of the listed players really (plus Siggins). I can’t make it down to either games today unfortunately.
I'm not. But if your on Twitter look up Geelong VFL and they give you a update on the game.
Even if your not on twitter you can Google them still and follow it that way still.
Hope that helps

Very keen to hear about all of those players along with Parsons to see how he responds to being dropped
