The club did NOT want to get rid of Menzel. They simply want to give him a year by year contract, which is reasonable.
He is a star, and we love him, but we need to see this form in 20 weeks time as well, and that's where he loses ground in contract negotiations. Plus the undoubted risk. But we'd be >/8 goals worse off without him.
they lowered his initial contract which by all reports was already very low. he hasnt done a knee for four years. he deserved more then a one year contract.

if he keeps palying half as well as he is currently. he should go in to scotts office mid season and ask fro his next contract to be tripled and to be 3 years.

So disappointed in Stanley though, just don’t know what to make of him.

This for me is a ridiculous selection.

Sure Smith got rolled by Gawn, many others will too. But at the contest around the ground against McEvoy, you've got to back Smith in over Stanley, surely?

Jack Henry, Mark O'Connor along with Fogarty, all 3 gamers at best. Just arrogant selection really.

How long does Parsons get a free ride?

Imagine if Stanley played on Gawn

We are horrendous defensively. And im not talking about the backline i thought they were ok given the saturation of ball inside defensive 50.

When the opposition wins the clearance around the grounds watching our mids and high fwds ball watching and refusing to try to shut down the ball is horrible.

We allowed 35 scoring shots. And if they hadnt hit the post 4 times would have been a solid loss

Lucky to have not lost by 5 goals.

If we dont find some sort of defensive structure when we dont have the ball around the grounds our backline wont be good enough to stop scores of 110+ each week.

Better fix that real quick.
This is the thing i am most worried about. If we applied the same pressure hawks did today they would not have kicked 117. The real question is can we actually apply that pressure and sustain it?

my mistake. meant cam guthrie played well not zac. zac wasnt bad he just wasnt great. gregson was poor. it was weird when they picked him ahead of others last week and weird they dropped murdoch instead of him. Gregson hasnt played football for multiple years. he needs a run of 6 games in the vfl. we did this with menzel and scott selwood when they came back. have no idea why we are not doing it with gregson.
Funny game from C Guthrie.
There was some real good.
And there was some absolute shite.
Not much in between.
And he did genuinely make me laugh in the last 30 seconds when he decided that a torp on the run was the best option at that stage.

Scott lost us that game (c.guthrie to a lesser extent).

See attached photo of o Connor marking Roughead. That was halfway through the last qr. it was not an accident. Scott actually put zuthrie and o Connor, FFS AN IRISH ROOKIE WITH 12 GAMES OF AUSSIE RULES EXPERIENCE AND 2 FEET SHORTER on their gun KEY FORWARD!! FFS SCOTT!

That is an incomprehensible monumental stuff up that cost us 4 points.

I look forward to Scott dancing around this when he gets asked in the press conference.

Also, Scott hasn’t improved our structures and deficiencies in the off season. FOR TOO LONG has he twiddled his thumbs and not fixed our game plan and deficiencies.

Sack the bastard. I’ve had enough.
Scarlett is the defensive coach might want to direct some of the angst towards him.

Learnt my lesson last week, will return when everyone is more rational lololol

All I can add, apart from saying that. . .living in the Bush. . .a darling friend brought me gaspers + more Bubbles. . .to soothe my despair. . .what a darling, who has such empathy.
More time in the loo in the last quarter for you next week:p

Just horrible team selections.

Unbelievable to think that O’Connor and Henry have earnt a game at AFL level and their selections proved very costly thoroghout today. Not only were both physically not up to it, their decision making and basic skill level is not where it needs to be. It says a lot about Thurlow and Murdoch if these two are getting picked above then. O’Connor obviously has a thirst for knowledge and athletic ability but is just way to raw. Needs to play a full season of vfl.

Stanley - Although I can see what they were thinking in regards to ground coverage, Smith was always going to be a better option as at least he has ruck craft and likely wouldn’t have given away 3 ruck infringements (which proved costly). Seems he is getting punished for getting outmarked once last week.

Gregson- Proficeint set shot goal kicker, average field kick.

Reports that Danger was slightly concussed in the third hence why he spent an extended period in the fwd line.

Thought we did quite well since we had a dozen players with less than 50 games experience, and had about a season and a half less experience than the Hawks side who played today. Put Taylor, Henderson, Smith, Scooter and Duncan into that side and the result would've been a lot different.

So who was missing in our best 22 today? Harry, Hendo, Duncan, McCarthy, Scott Selwood. Some decent in's to come back. Who was Hawthorn missing apart from Burgoyne and Frawley?

Rioli? :p

Did Henry play after half time?

Nope.
