Great win and can see why the Hawks are petrified of our stadium. Selwood Stanley Ablett and Parfitt best, Menegola Rohan Hawkins worst. Menegola and Rohan dumped for Steven and Clark next week thanks.
Menegola was actually pretty good last night.
But I'd hate to be a team-mate anywhere near him when he gets into trouble, because you'd just know that you are the one who's going to get clobbered when he sells you into trouble with the old Sam's Special Hospital Handpass. Another two or three in the first half last night.

Just about every handball put someone in trouble or resulted in a turnover. The pace of Clark or Steven would be a lot better for the team.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but did anyone else think Scott's presser last night left the door slightly ajar for another year? 🤞

Same

I love when the reporter asked about this being Ablett's last year and Scott's response was, "is it?"

So I'm not sure if he genuinely didn't know or didn't read the info directly by Ablett last year after he re-signed where he said he'd give it his so for one more year

Or if he doesn't care because if Ablett keeps performing as he did last night, he has a spot in our best 22 next year

Not sure if it's just me, or did the guys seem more energetic & enthusiastic when singing the song last night then we have seen after some other wins in recent years

I liked it they showed a lot more emotion and energy than just arm in arm and singing for the sake of it! though it was the first time doing it so maybe over time it'll just be for the sake of it too. would be interesting if they come up with a few more creative was of singing the song.

I didn't like Scott's comments in the presser that he is liking the shorter quarters. I personally think that shorter quarters are crap!

I'm not a fan either, as I want to watch MORE football not less, however there's no doubting it's an advantage to the Cats playing less minutes per game (and less games).
Our older players get a bit too banged up with full minutes to really impact as they would/should come finals time.

Great to be back here after all that time away; especially beating the 'ol rivals in such a convincing fashion.

Parfitt played his best game since his 3 goal/34 disposal masterclass against the Saints in 2018.

Miers is probably in my top 5 players now, he's just something special and so reliable - also works incredibly hard every game. Gotta be fit to be in the Top 5 with Blics, Scully and I Smith.

Sel is an inside mid and should never be played anywhere else, he's just a superstar. Kelly leaving is a blessing if it means we get full time mid minutes for Sel.

Stanley silenced the doubters...for this round at least. Very much a Motlop sort in that he has the talent, just doesn't always apply himself.

O'Connor has improved so rapidly, that it's clear why he's in the leadership group. Best 22 and in a few years, could be in our top 10.

Rohan applies pressure but not much else, and I think Steven could play that same role but just a bit higher up the ground, and with stints in the midfield. Reckon he offers a lot more than Rohan does, so that's an easy change for me.

Henry was fine, but I think Kolo with his versatility and assuredness down back, is probably a better fit.

Bews did his bit, but I think Clark offers more going the other way - attacking and rebound 50's.

So for me, Best on ground:

Sel, Miers, Parf, Stanley, Ablett

OUT: Rohan, Bews, Henry
IN: Steven, Clark, Kolo

Thought Menegola was ok last night.
Liked Parfitt. skill and a bit of mongrel. Looks fit too.
Was a bit worried when he wasnt picked R1.

Parfitt will be on the fore front of media minds after that game. Potential to go so some way to cover Kelly. Old fashioned I know , not enamoured with the ink but his form and body shape seems to indicate a player ready to go. 55 games and 22 yo .. seems to be about right.

I agree on Meirs as well. More than any other feature in his game , his ability to convert from the half in play chances is so valuable. It was the talent that made SJ so valuable... he funny kicking style at times can be off putting but would have have lasted to 57 in draft if he had a more traditional style ?

Sav is the target of some derision... but Id persist. Im sure the type of game style played now it must be harder for someone like him than when it was a more traditional style . Get the games into him and along the way he will have games that are poor and are highlights.

As much as that game was enjoyable, we seemed to have the more balanced side..was Haw too tall for our forward line? Sel looked as fit and soreness free that I have seen for some time . GA too. I guess Id ask.. how long can they stay that way. In a way , it was not that different to games early last year, the side playing well.. and having a very good conversion ratio.

The side for next week could be interesting. Maintaining and ensuring the full group of 25<>30 players stays in touch will be difficult to do. One would think Steven comes in somehow.. Perhaps someone will pull up sore. Rowan does give the impression he is only one tackle away from limping off yet again. Based on form he would go but he is such a confidence player.. what does it do to him?

Totally agree with you on Parfitt - looks a totally different player - because he looks about 1000% fitter - Hamish said that in the call last night - so he moved with speed - something to get excited about

2nd half was great viewing - i liked i think it was the 2nd goal in the 3rd qtr - and Blicavs marked the ball at FB ( alot of defenders would have just punched it away ) but Blicavs marked it and set that goal in motion

Not getting carried away with the win - because Hawthorn in the 2nd half were pitiful - there was virtually no resistance at all - and they cant blame the ground - the shape/dimensions etc - it was perfect conditions - no wind - Geel just got the ball ( and HAW hardly touched it ) moved it quickly and with ease and waltzed in goal after goal

Liked Dangerfields tackle on Smith ( who is a big bloke ) front on - holding the ball - goal - Dangerfields 2nd half was very good

1st Q: Started well, but a couple of mistakes (which I’ll let slide due to rust + team cohesion) let the hawks back in, especially the last 2 in the space of a minute.

2nd Q: Hawks had a bit of confidence but couldn’t really get on top, their best Q by far

2nd Half: Cats fully on top like the 1st Q, but with less mistakes so Hawks had little chance to score.

All in all a good first hit back on the park after a long break. Cats were clearly better than the Hawks from the first bounce. Half time score flattered the hawks, majority of their shots on goal were due to cats mistakes you wouldn’t ordinarily expect. Those sorts of mistakes were tidied up by the end of the game, I have more confidence going into the remainder of the season now.

If he actually hit his target.

Bit harsh on him but I'm sure I recall him missing his target with a pretty simple handball that resulted in a Hawks goal early on in the piece.

Calm down it’s round 2!

Yeah I think Rohan has a strong body of work now of not doing anything. Steven up front would be dangerous and he can have small bursts in the middle. Defence looked a bit shabby first quarter and a bit, but got back to how we want it to be. Kolo could replace Henry- agree.
