Great to smash the Hawks & wish I was there. F*&k THEM!! lol
I Don't rate them (Dawks) personally, so i'll keep my expectations in check.
Interestingly will be the inclusions of Kolo, Stevens & Clark as they for me are starting 18 calibre.
Good times ahead... fingers crossed.

Parfitt has always looked like a good player, but todays performance indicates he has taken the next step. His inside work was exceptional and when he lays a tackle, he really lays a tackle. We have a good one there...looks set for a big 2020.

I’d even go one step further and say Parfitt has the potential to be a top 5 midfielder in the AFL. Big call, I know. He‘s a bit like Pendles.

Oh it could be, it wouldn't be that hard to develop an AI model using machine learning and old broadcasts. But it could be contentious - in a real match you would have expected Burgoyne to have been roundly booed anytime he went near the ball after the sling tackle. At a game with a crowd that is fine, that is 30,000 making their own collective decision, but they are expected to be biased. But if you have an 'unbiased' algorithm booing Burgoyne, well that becomes a different matter.
I think it actually would be pretty hard. Systems like that generally need a measureable trigger condition that the software understands and I can't see how we get that from anything other than raw video data. When triggered from raw video feed it still needs to be looking for specific things. There's just way too many degrees of freedom in the input data. You'd find that the crowd noise would end up being way quieter for any side wearing red based purely on the suns matches data input, you'd need to remove all the Adam Goodes games where he was booed or you'd likely get an algorithm that just randomly booed players with dark skin, advertising on the barriers would end up being a trigger.

I honestly think it's the kind of project that you could sink 5 years and millions of dollars into and you'd end up with a worse system than the current.

I think if you really want to improve on the crowd noise the only way to do it without crowds is to take the current system and instead of having one person with a dial, pick 50 members a week from the home side and say 20 from the away side and give them all dials which control 1/70th of the full volume. Make sure they can hear each other too. You could spend 5 years on an algorithm and it likely wouldn't beat that system

Steven isn’t fit enough for anywhere close to midfield where you need to transition up and back.

If he plays it’s for Atkins. High HF with midfield bursts until we see enough to transition into the roles Menegola and to a lesser extent Guthrie (defensive mid) have.

I think Steven is a better option than Atkins. Just a better player

Clark is also best 22. He’d be eyeing Bews who was his usual non existent self or Touhy.

Jack Henry would want to sharpen up or Kolo will be in Rd 4.

The standouts for me from last night. Parfitt can lay a tackle and is looking the goods this year. I've had ambivalent feelings about Ablett over recent time but no one can pinpoint pass like him. If we had one other player that was half as good at that alone we'd be a much better team. Such a great player.
Selwood it looking as fit and happy as I have seen him in a long time. He's having fun. Miers - don't let this one get away. Take him to the bank.
I never tire of seeing Harry clunking defensive marks. A great warrior.
Stanley was terrific last night. I hope he keeps that form going.

Nailed it.

Can you imagine the crowd at KP while smacking Haw around , when Danger got dumped , when certain free kicks were or were not given ... that noise was nothing like a realistic noise , it only add to artificial vive for mine. They have multiple channels ..I wish there was was a way in which one could choose to watch without it.
Mute button , i haven’t watched the footy with sound on for years

Bews might've been his "usual non existent self" last night, but you could also say the same of his direct opponent as well, which is a direct result of how Bews played on him.

No thanks. Not this week anyhow. No spot for Steven he can wait his turn/gain fitness outside the team. Handy depth in case of injury.
I can see Atkins being dropped for Stevens , they will want to give the kids more time in the middle ...Narkle will only get better with more time

Bews could be dropped for Kolo for the MCG ground I would say, depending on fitness ...can’t leave it for Harry to do the gorilla lockdown work week in week out ...I prefer to have Harry freed up to help Stewart and co.

Burgoyne sling tackling Dangerfield onto his 'chest'. :straining:

Was pretty clearly dazed, play this on the hard Perth Stadium and he's probably getting stretchered off.
Yep. If you want a perfect example of a sling tackle you couldn't get better than that.
Has to go for a couple. I am biased against sling tackles though. They bloody hurt.

Yea Bews was fine. No way in the world he comes out of an already bigish defense for Kolo.

That was thee first Geelong game I've watched sober for as long as I can remember and it won't be the last. My take on the game;

Good:

Parfitt - It's a credit to himself the shape he's returned to the field in. Almost unrecognisable in appearance. Gone are the chunky legs, replaced by footballers legs allowing him a more aerobic base. Anyone who questioned his place in the side needs a rethink. Skill and class personified ... his poise and vision in traffic is what's going to mae him a very, very good footballer for this club. My one query before this game was his disposal and it's something he needs to work hard on as he lacks penetration and accuracy. I've been a massive fan of Brandons and was blown away with his transformation from the end of last year. He has stardom written all over him. Who said we lost the Caddy trade?

Stanley - The shortened quarters worked in his favour. Rhys set us up from the start and continued to do so after half time when Hawthorn narrowed the gap. He is vital to our chances this year and must be our #1 ruckman to be any chance of going deep in 2020. I thought he showed the same aggression last night as he did when he was on the right track a year or so ago. I see Rhys as a confidence player so hopefully this performance sets up his season.

Selwood - I, like many others had written off this club great. Weren't we wrong. Looks injury free, fit and back to the Selwood we know. Easily BOG and a huge reason we won convinsingly. I'd forgotten just how good he actually was.

Ablett Jnr - Another who will benefit from shortened quarters. He just makes the right decisions. Half forward is his position, leave him there. His ability to hit a target inside 50 is unrivalled and he was sublime last night. The bigger grounds are his test.

O'Connor - Roll out the red carpet for our best small defender. I was sceptical he had what it takes to become a good player at this level but he does. Poise beyond his years for someone new to the game. I'm no longer petrified when he has ball in hand because he just makes really good decisions. His game last night was very underrated and he's only going to get better. We have a genuine A grader on our hands here.

Narkle - Slowly building with more midfield time. Needs to focus on 'one touch' football and limit the fumbles and he's another who can go to the next level. Started slowly but came into his own the longer the game went on. Looks to have increased his fitness base which is a huge plus. He needs to keep working on his disposal and he's another youngster who has what it takes to keep this club successful after the Danger's, Selwood's, etc, retire.

Bad:

Tuohy and Bews constantly losing their footing. It isn't a one off either, it happens regularly and it cost us 3 goals last night. Tuohy got better as the game wore on but I'm not sure both are in our best 22.

Blicavs - A liabilty when the ball hits the deck ... it's that simple. Also Mark, when you spoil make sure it's with vigour. He was ok in the end but you don't want the ball in his hands.

Hawkins - Continues to move like a 73 year old with a cane. It's a concern.

Rohan - I can't remember the last time he took the pill cleanly.

All in all a clinical effort. We structered up better, moved the ball a little quicker and our mids covered the ground well. Without the simple skill errors and some basic mistakes, we win that game by 100 points even with the shortened quarters. We were that much better.

I was a happy man and I still can't wipe the smile off my face. I even braved the chilly conditions and went for an early morning run.

We are Geelong.
I also watched last night sober, was good actually. I enjoyed it.
& I didn't start ringing and texting people being a dickhead either.

Very dangerous as it tends to end up badly with the player landing head first

has to get a week or two and he knew it which was why he was fuming

Should be home with his kids. Oh, wait.

He works so damn hard. Happily runs hard to help out in defence and then hard back the other way when we have it. You’d love to bottle that effort and have some other players drink it.

Dahl was good. Kicked a few goals. He won’t be dropped.

Not sure in jenkins would even be available if he has a back injury.
Faarken lol. He should be watching them while his missus walks around with a selfie stick 24/7

Bye Curse? Broken
Kenneth Curse? Reinstated

Blokes a flog and he was Premier of this state. Anyhow great win by the Cats last night probably my second favourite side as used to rock on down to Kardinia Park every time cats played at home when I lived in Geelong as a young bloke back in late 70s

I miss the roar that comes as the ball heads towards goal telling that is going through.
Hard to tell when watching tv.

Great win and can see why the Hawks are petrified of our stadium. Selwood Stanley Ablett and Parfitt best, Menegola Rohan Hawkins worst. Menegola and Rohan dumped for Steven and Clark next week thanks.
