Autopsy Geelong defeats Hawthorn

Strange in that it didn't feel like a win. There was no release of emotion for me (at home) and I wasn't exactly sure how I felt (although I knew that I would have felt a whole lot worse had Smith converted.)

Felt a bit like a drawn match for a minute or two.

I think those feelings have the same source that has led a lot of Hawks fans to not feel completely gutted with the loss. It is fair to say Geelong were favourites going in, so for the game to go down to a missed easy goal after the siren was probably below expectation for Geelong fans, and above expectation for Hawk fans.

Another amazing game between the best two teams of the last 10 years.

Some could blame hodge for giving away a 50 that led to a cats goal too..
Or Gunston having his kick smothered in the boundary when we were up by 17 that led to a cats fight back..
It's just how we've played all year and our last game against the Pies we win by a point to finish top 4...
It's no one only players fault it's a whole team effort and we should had won last night now we got to put up with those cocky handbags for a long time
all season we've eased off a bit when 3 goals up. Big difference between this and previous seasons.

I really put it down to the rebuild. Having hale and lake out there tonight would have changed everything.

But relax guys - we'll make a prelim in a rebuild year and that's pretty damn awesome.

I'm happy to atleast make the prelim.. But let's face it the cats are going to be playing an interstate side at the G in the prelim now and they will make the GF..

Just gotta say Joel Selwood is a blight on the game. His continual diving for free kicks is a joke and has breed a generation of soccer style floppers (and yes we now have a few) because the AFL refuse to act on it.

The one were he grabbed Hodge and leaped to the ground which resulted in a goal (after the subsequent 50m) ultimately was the difference.

They need to bring in a retrospective punishment system for players like him.

Double dose of Selwood :(.

It is very noticeable that every Cats player has words with the umpires at every opportunity including at every stoppage. They go out of their way to influence the umpires and Selwood leads the charge.

Playing better than Geelong and losing had pretty much been specialty of ours for many years now.

Yes I know. The game could have gone either way. We had them on toast. To be be decided by a kick after the siren indicates they are not better than us.

Well...they (the team) must pick themselves up and get the mental energy to tackle the dogs next week. That is all...last night is over.

Unfortunately this is how the AFL have dealt with the biggest flopper the game has seen:

This. And the minute Hodge back chats the ump it's a 50m penalty. Geelong players should be told to shut their traps or suffer the consequences. Their coach leads the charge though with all his whinging about the umpires, undoubtedly also intended to influence them.

Yep - the gander follows the goose on that front.

Geelong have been the most umpire-oriented side for a decade now. Captain and coach obsessed with umpiring decisions.

That is utterly disgusting. However, a look at their board and you would soon see they have more of those type of supporters than all other clubs combined.
That is disgusting! Trust me we are not all like that! Unfortunately there are supporters from both mobs that take things too far but still plenty of good ones from both sides out there.

What's worse than the loss was all the cocky Geelong supporters bagging hawthorn saying where's fourthorn after the game.
They should atleast make the GF before the start mouthing off.!

It's nice supporting a club where the go-to insult of the opposition is that we've won just the three premierships in a row....

how day you trot out that racist stuff. They have sent free tickets to all junior clubs. No food in sight
Are you nic nat, you know the offended one.
ease up it was a jibe and a valid one.
now rack off.

Remember, it's Sookwood, he is a competitive beast that's what makes him tick, but does he complain, never ever has he taken a free kick against on the chin, seriously a world class whinger.
Sookwood forever and a day.

humour at an innapropriate time is a classic tell tale that someone is stressed to the max. i look for it in my job when things are getting super difficult as a sign my offsider is not coping.
Maybe it's because you call him/her an offsider in stead of a colleague or a co worker or a team mate.
