I still think the only reason they took so long was them deciding do we suspend every tackle that the head hits the ground or give ourselves some leeway. And in the end they chose the former.

They have to do everything in their power to stop concussion else future litigation will bankrupt the Sport.
Just as we have seen bump but don't make contact with the head we will inevitably see tackle but don't make contact or cause contact to the head................

So they admit both arms weren't pinned just a push on the right arm we should have made more of that.

According to Point 1 of the findings: "At and prior to the moment of impact, he pinned or restrained both of Dawson's arms, and particularly had hold of Dawson's left arm and did not release it"

So the tribunal found Close did pin or restrain both arms

Now we wait for a potential Brownlow medalist in Bontempelli/Daicos/Oliver to perform one of these tackles and see the hoops they jump through to let them off. :drunk:

Seriously though, imagine missing a grand final for doing one of these harmless tackles in a prelim. You'd be spewing.

That is not what was in the statement left arm yes, actually they have said both point 1 as you say and point 2 he's only pushing on the right arm not holding.

Right, so the AFL has now basically stipulated that a tackle must now leave the arms free.

What's the point of tackling then?

The worst thing is that Dawson contributed to the momentum. Pretty hard for a rake like Close to lay him down safely. Players will exploit the rule and make the tackle look worse than it is. It’s the nature of football, guaranteed Ginnavin is already practicing it.

You would be going on to the ground this week end shake hands with your opponent and say you get anywhere near me today and I'm going head first in to the turf.

In future, if there's any chance of a tackle going to ground, do not pin either arm for the love of god.

The AFL has essentially reduced the game to standing tackles only.

The game is dying by a 1000 cuts.

I don't know where a logical line gets drawn. But maybe you can't drag a player to ground when tackling? Suddenly everyone is shrugging tackles like they were 2017 Dusty.

I think what actually happens is probably we see a few players dive with the tackle for frees and they reverse course without changing a rule.

The tackle is essentially dead.

You can't pin the arms, so it leaves the ball carrier free to dispose of the ball, and you dare not take him to ground for fear of the MRO's stupidity.

Not sure where it goes from here......I can see players standing off, corralling the ball carrier instead?

In case that doesn't fully show - essentially, Brad failed in his duty of care which is why he's having an early managed week this season

Translation: “we don’t understand what duty of care means but we think it sounds cool.”

Pinned or restrained both his arms.

Otherwise known as… a tackle.

I think they'll hit moral hazard in players being tackled diving and potentially injuring themselves and have to reverse this direction

Also love attempting to redefine words from the English language that have long established meanings.

No AFL, “medium impact” will never mean it had the potential to have a medium impact.

Lol players should release an arm and just not tackle at all.

The fabric of this game is farked

This is what happens when the afl gets scared of lawyers and focus groups too much.

Absolutely disgusting and typically disgraceful of a pathetic tribunal system that makes shit up on the fly to suit what ever rule they are trying to force through.

And **** Fox Footy for pushing hard for this outcome on their show.

Was never a week in this tackle, and it screams of the AFL trying to get rid of tackles from the sport.
