Scott basically guaranteed Clark his game, which was a weird position to take. I would not drop Atkins and if Parfitt is fit, he may have to walk back on that one.

Not really he can rest someone every week until about round 20 and rotate the squad which we did in 2011.

I change my mind. Ablett looked very sore at the end of the game.

In: Parfitt, Clark
Out: Menegola, Ablett

Menegola was quiet on the weekend but has been outstanding until then. I doubt he goes out. Id drop Constable for him but Id drop neither. I think Henry will go out before either of those guys.

More likely we rest/manage people especially Ablett and Taylor who are old.

He's no Amy Winehouse, but Sheedy doesn't place much credence in our win against WC.

"I don't really count Geelong's win (on Sunday), because West Coast didn't turn up, it's as simple as that," he said.

Hopefully Essendon don't turn up Sunday then. ;)

Outstanding? He has been very down on his standards in 2019.

Talking about turning up.... what the story with the trains now .... are they back on or is it buses to the G on Sunday?

Trains look to be the go from Geelong to Southern Cross (no more football trains from Geelong through to Richmond due to track works further along the line which don't allow for the trains to technically "turn around", hence why Metro between Southern Cross & MCG).

Getting home to Geelong may buses depending on how late one wishes to kick on after the game:

Geelong line

We’re completing maintenance on the Geelong line. Coaches are replacing some evening trains while works take place from Sunday 5 May until Tuesday 7 May.

Sunday 5 May

From Southern Cross Station
The 20.30 train from Southern Cross Station to Waurn Ponds will run as a train to Geelong, connecting with coaches from Geelong to Waurn Ponds.

The 21.10, 22.10, 23.10 and 00.10 trains from Southern Cross Station to Waurn Ponds will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

From Waurn Ponds
The 21.16 and 22.36 trains from Waurn Ponds to Southern Cross Station will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

Atkins wont get dropped bc he plays a specific fwd pressure role that Clark cant. Atkins may eventually get dropped for Fogarty or Cockatoo who can play his role better but not Clark.

I think we need more run vs Essendon as compared to the extra tall so I would probably go Clark in for Henry.
Please, not Henry- Just found form, and he has elite closing speed plus height, making him very useful.
Essendon is a very quick team, but so is Collingwood; I think or hope CS respects the fact they have had our measure recently, and will get our boys to do some hunting as well as attacking.

Fogarty May surprise a few and have an impact once he comes back. Very good pressure small mid/half forward with good foot skills.

Can imagine it’s just a matter of his fitness
I think Fogarty next season could very surprise alot of people here.. he could be a very good player in our midfield next season

this will be a real test, do well in this game and we are a good shot at losing another prelim

outs Henry
ins Clark

most likely Atkins will get dropped for Clark cos god forbid you drop one of the undroppables

if the Bombers play to their full potential with Fantasia coming back in then they will cut us to shreds

if we get on top in the midfield and kick well to our forwards I think guys like Ablett and Rohan should trouble them, their defence isn't that good outside of Hooker and Hurley

will be good to see how our midfield defends against a fast side

He was "managed" publically but who knows what was said behind closed doors. The VFL didn't play on the weekend after all.

If we start playing Kolo on the wing or Henry forward etc to shoe in the extra defender, well that is old Geelong. Can't fall back into those habits.

Clark is/will be a better players than Atkins but Atkins is playing a different role.

When Bews and Henderson are fit we will have 10 afl standard defenders. Only room for 7.

No need to be shoving any of Bews or Henderson in. Unfortunate for them but others have come in and made us better. Clarke may have to just wait in the twos also. A shame as he really is class but there isn't a spot for him from the side that played on the weekend.

First week for a couple of years I'm glad it's not me having to pick the 22,even tougher job if Parfitt's ready to go.
Atkins may have to make way for Parfitt unless there are other injuries. Really sucks as he's doing really well but Parfitt is just a bit better and has to come in. Helps with midfield see depth and us not getting too predictable in there which has caused problems in finals.

Otherwise as said Menegola could come out for Parfitt or Clark but I feel like that's unlikely.

Their run and spread has worried us for years, even during the drug ban when they had a VFL side against us.
It has. We are well organised in defense and others are working hard back defensively. Don't think we've played them with 'good' Stanley yet either. He especially is getting back and taking good marks in defense.

Had this game as well as Round 1 pegged as our two danger games early on when looking at the fixture pre-season.

This is probably stating the bleeding obvious, but we need to start well. Last two times we played Essendon it was all over at half time (44 points down last year, and 32 the year before). Luckily this year our 1st quarters have been our best (averaging 31 points while conceding 18). Hope it continues this week.

Agreed. In a side that's been really good he has really given me the shits at times. Some very poor, dopey play that badly hurts every time. Not terrible overall and he does lots of hard stuff but not great either.

No chance Henry gets dropped. More chance of Taylor getting a rest.

In: Clark

Out: Taylor

Very USERNAME!
It will certainly be a great test for us. I agree about Fantasia- he is their barometer, a true class act when fit.
I hope we can have a few tricks in our squad that can match their kamikaze style.
Not confident here- so what's new? - but I see this as CS truly responding to our biggest test so far, mainly due to their recent domination of us.

yes need role specific players and not playing players out of position to try and fit them all in. Good point.

Wouldn’t be resting Atkins. We need his forward pressure against their speedy half backs. Let him shut down McKenna or saad if he’s quick enough. Big test on the wide expanses of the G against their speed. They’ve surprised us last couple, so we owe them one. Surely we don’t get out hunted?? That would be unacceptable. Don’t know why Scott almost guarantees games to players especially after winning by 10 goals. Clark a bit off the last couple of games. Parfitt for constable or unchanged for mine. Mitch brown out, so a tall back to be rested? Doubt it

OK thats one I had not thought of.. what the height situation like with ESS forwards..?

Hey Hoodie
Look out for Letts Sel Danger coming up behind in the tipping
See you are coming first. I'm in fifth at the minute
I reckon Essendon is a tough proposition
A lot of speed with Merrett, Shiel, McKenna, Saad, Fantasia, McDonald Tippungwutti
If we can curtail their run we'll beat them
Put body on Shiel, he doesn't like it. Gets a bit scared and drops his bundle
Win midfield ball at all costs in this one
So many battles
Hawkins v Hooker
Biicavs v Daniher
Stewart v Stringer
Hurley v Ratagolea
Speedsters v Rohan, Dahlhaus, Ablett ( hurt them off their rebound)
Danger, Kelly, Parfitt, Selwood Duncan v Sheil, Merrett, Heppell, Smith
This could potentially be a blinder

I think everyone has forgotten Constable as the most likely omission for Parfitt.

Parfitt has to come in but not for Charlie - he’s too valuable at clearances and gives us first use , he’s been fantastic
I think Menegola is more vulnerable to be honest but he still goes more than ok so tough calls to be made
