Playing to win- John Farnham!

I'm not waitin' any longer
You know that I'm playin' to win this time
When you make your move, I won't hesitate
If it takes you long, it could be too late
This time I'm playin' to win
getting pumped up now. What's your fav motivational song? Can't use eye of the tiger ........

Thought I'd get hip with the kids and try out that footy game. This one had everything - Gary Rohan dropping marks, Dangerfield spraying easy shots, Jack Henry getting caught HTB - but we still won. I'd hope we win more hitouts, but I'll take the margin.

11-1 free kick differential to the Tigers seems strangely prescient, though.

And that spanking in hit-outs seems to indicate that the 'Omitted: Stanley (rain)' option is still on the table as well...

;)

Because thier game style is our krytonite.

We can beat it. But we've pretty much got to play perfect.

No doubt they are good. I don’t think they are intimidating though. Cats best matches their best. It will be a good game. Stars against stars on every line.

They have torched us off their half back line in our recent losses - I take solace in that we have stifled opposition transition from their defence into F50 this Finals. Continue to disrupt those chains and we are a big chance.
They beat up Port around the ball ups/stoppages and won clearance handsomely - unusual for them - can they repeat it against us?
We must win contested possession also - it's a huge barometer for us winning :thumbsu:

I take solace in 2 points

(1) Brisbane actually beat Richmond fair and square - minus 1 player Lynch . Now if the Tigers had flogged Bris - then i could understand their logic of their supporters - we will put the pressure on Geel and flog them to . However they lost to Bris at the Gabba - where as Geel made Bris look 4th rate 27 scoring scots to 12 . Tigers supporters say Bris played their GF against them - i cant understand that logic at all - they had 2 weeks to refresh ? - i can understand them saying it about Magpies because they were physically shot - why would the Bears be physically shot

(2) The Gabba ground The Cats just seem to play so well their - typical Tiger supporter reply - oh yeah but we have beaten the Lions 15 times or whatever at the Gabba - yeah but the Bears were a rabble then so who cares . I think at one stage Geel beat Rich 19 times in a 20 game stretch - but the Tigers at the time were a lowly side - so who blooody cares - its got no relevance at all . If Saturdays game was at Metricon - i would give Geel no chance whatsoever - i would tip Rich by 6 goals - and you look at the logic of that - when Tigers played Saints in knockout final - Rich had the choice of grounds - and their coach Hardwick picked Metricon - so he must think that they play better their - and are best suited at that ground etc - and i think they are to

I'll never, ever forget him coaching Adelaide in Geelong and after the game, people were banging on the coaches box glass and he was giving the finger to everyone.

Whatever else he did right or wrong over the journey, Ayres responding angrily to people banging on the glass of the box is something I can entirely understand.

If that ever happened to our coach at an interstate venue, I figure plenty of us here would be incensed.

If I remember correctly, they beat us down here in 2003 and he acted like a campaigner after it, then we smacked them down here in 2004 and some fans decided to give it back.

Hard to go past this...

I'm sure the patrons involved figure he'd 'earned it'. And that somehow paying for their ticket to the game entitled them to carry on in such a fashion.

Just for myself, I find the whole act of banging on the glass like that quite cowardly and juvenile. What an appalling example to set for young people watching on, for a start.

One of many reasons why I do not want a Richmond victory, the Trent Cotchin Tigers must not be a back to back flag winning side.
Didn’t you tip Richmond On the main board?

Jesus this is a ******* rude article to be putting out. But if Sam Simpson is the worst player on the ground, I'll eat my hat.

Interestingly the Cats have the majority of players ranked 10-25 after 4 of the top 9.

What decides the player ratings? I bet it's another bullshit tally that dosen't count 1 percenters or pressure acts or anything like that. I wouldn't worry about this load of old crap at all, frggr.

What is the Official AFL Player Ratings system?

Determining the best player in the AFL has always been tricky. Whether it be umpires, coaches, media or fans, judgements about top players have always had a large element of opinion.

Now, using the most sophisticated algorithm ever applied to our game, we can assess every single action of every player, determine the impact of that action and provide points – either positive or negative – toward that player's rating compared to his peers.

And unlike every other system, Official AFL Player Ratings are based on a player's past 40 games, a scheme that provides a long-term view of a player's standing within the AFL.

How is each player's rating worked out?

Players accrue or lose points every time they are involved in a passage of play, and the score awarded to them each time they are in the play is determined by a complex algorithm formulated and refined over a number of years by Champion Data. Whether players accrue or lose points is based around whether they have a positive or negative impact on the passage of play.

A player's rating is determined by adding together his points tally based on a rolling window of the previous two seasons.

Which acts a player makes on the field contribute to his score?

Every time a player is involved in a passage of play he will have the chance to accrue points. But rather than his score being a simple tally of his possessions, marks, tackles, hit-outs, free-kicks and scores, his performance will be measured using a system called Equity Ratings. The system determines where and how a player influences a contest and whether the player's effort then results in a positive result for his team. Equity Ratings includes what coaches love to describe as "pressure acts". As a result, players are rewarded for interrupting opposition passages of play as well as setting up scores for their own team.

Players who consistently produce positive contributions are rewarded more highly than players with a high volume of stats.
