Don't know if he's been found since going missing in Adelaide.Wonder if Cotchin will be a late withdrawal. Surely all the predicted wind and rain would mess with his hair.
I'm a bit confused about this blanket statement that seems to be thrown around. I think I've only noted one direct comment in the whole thread where someone used this selection decision as a basis for Geelong losing the match. Disagreeing with the 22nd, 15th or 1st player picked does not equate to "and this is why Geelong will now lose this match". It doesn't mean people should remain silent unless the issue they raise will be the critical deciding factor on the match outcome. To those saying we should have taken Thurlow because of his strong body. He is not a physical player and has never played as one.
He averages 4.14 contested possessions a game compared to Zach Guthrie's 3.6 and 1.98 tackles to Zach's 1.73. Negligible difference really.
They obviously want Zach to do a shutdown job and have more faith in him to do that that the more attacking-minded Thurlow.
Bit once again I laugh how the selection of the 22nd player in the team will ultimately determine the outcome of the game. If this is our biggest concern, we're doing ok.
Strong but I like it!Personally I think that we should ease up on picking on the Richmond fans for their overreaction to their team's success.
It gives them something to live for, I'm sure some even gave up heroin.
Friendly reminder that Zuthrie held Daniel Rioli to 8 possessions and 0.0 in the qualifying final...
I've never said he was on Roughy today, yesterday or any other f--king day it's a reference to that Hawks game where he got caught out on Roughy on a couple of occasions and got reamed. And your point of not being on Roughy is precisely why I said I don't hold that game against him.
If anyone is expecting us to win, and then we don't, I doubt it will matter how he plays, there is always a scapegoat. At least Parsons avoids the chagrin this week. What gets me is the way these maligned players are scrutinised by the haters on this board. Every slight below par action is magnified, and it takes an awful lot for players to win them over. Finally, KOLO, who I've always felt would be a keeper in our team, is getting some praise. Our supporters are harsh judges on BF. I could name plenty of others- Blics, Stanley, Murdoch, Bews...
Just think if you had 43 possessions the week before, not to mention 3 or 4 others continually overlooked.
You might get a little unhappy, yes?
I think it is insurance for the possible weather and ground conditions
If it is as wet and miserable as they say - then Buzza would be the most likely out - for a smaller player - and Richmond have only got the 1 Ruckman
43 possessions against a side weak enough to allow our mob out to a 100 to 3 lead before icing returning players.
Someone was going to get on the end of it. Glad it was Thurlow.
But we need a lock down player this week. Zuthrie played well in the VFL games I saw a few weeks back and gets another gig.
Go cats
We are missing 7 of our top 22, including 3 of our top 10, that's pretty significant. This will be a massive test as to our top 4 position. A win and we will be seen as a top 4 and obviously a serious contender, a loss and we will slide a few positions depending and be looking at bottom 8 as a likely outcome of the season. While Menzel and Scooter would be very handy, our team is pretty strong and we can't really cry "injuries". Do it Catters!
Your thoughts after watching closely?Your last sentence might be the reason. Going to have a close look at the game on tv today.
Sav is gone for the year so it is irrelevant. Henderson is yet to play and we have been playing with the current defense which has been very good as the year has progressed, if we lose because our defense leaks and scream "No Hendo or Taylor" it would be an excuse given our recent record. Cocky has been gone since...well most weeks in the last two years. I'm not sure if Scooter and Cam Guthrie are necessarily best 22, I like them both but they would need to earn a spot before someone like Cunico is dropped. We are missing 7 of our top 22, including 3 of our top 10, that's pretty significant.
You might not agree with some or all of their selections, but if the MC had a full list to choose from, Henderson, Taylor and Menzel would be selected in the first 10, and Guthrie, Cockatoo, Selwood and Ratugolea would be selected in the 22.Sav is gone for the year so it is irrelevant. And if you go by Scott's comments after last week's match, Black had been in our best 10 or so players since his inclusion - so it doesn't sound like Black would have been an omission for this week of he was fit & availableYou might not agree with some or all of their selections, but if the MC had a full list to choose from, Henderson, Taylor and Menzel would be selected in the first 10, and Guthrie, Cockatoo, Selwood and Ratugolea would be selected in the 22.
It's not a question of excuses for losing however; we're not at full strength, and it just is what it is.
I heard him say that too, pretty good support for AB. I hope he gets a rookie selection post season. And if you go by Scott's comments after last week's match, Black had been in our best 10 or so players since his inclusion - so it doesn't sound like Black would have been an omission for this week of he was fit & available
Cotchin is a gun. Not sure why he's so underrated on here.Don't know if he's been found since going missing in Adelaide.
When he doesn't go missing, yes, he is good.Cotchin is a gun. Not sure why he's so underrated on here.
Cotchin is a worthy Brownlow medalist and a genuine nice bloke.Cotchin is a gun. Not sure why he's so underrated on here.
He's very inconsistent, especially when compared with other comp top-liners, or with Duncan, Selwood, Ablett and Dangerfield.Cotchin is a gun. Not sure why he's so underrated on here.
Menzel and Ratugolea would be automatic selections. You would think Taylor, but I don't know where unless Henry is dropped. The question over Henderson or Taylor playing forward in place of Buzza rests on who can support Stanley in the ruck, since neither Hendo nor Harry play ruck and no-one wants to take Blicavs away from where he currently is.You might not agree with some or all of their selections, but if the MC had a full list to choose from, Henderson, Taylor and Menzel would be selected in the first 10, and Guthrie, Cockatoo, Selwood and Ratugolea would be selected in the 22.
