As I recall Hawkins, West and maybe even Mackie missed that game because they weren't in your best 22 at the time. Only Selwood was a genuine loss. Funny how through most of the year the bye was looked on as something difficult to win after, except when we played you. And I sympathise about having to travel across the country, no side should have to put up with that!

I think it may be just coincidence that sides happened to lose after a bye. On the other hand, perhaps in the first half of the year it was seen as a momentum staller. I remember people banging on about how the Crows suffered from the bye early on but really they were putrid for most of the year anyway.

Traveling every second week is far from ideal and credit to the Perth teams for enduring it and being successful on a number of occasions when traveling. However, I think travelling twice across the country in three weeks in amongst some high intensity finals footy might actually be detrimental and play a big part in the game on Saturday. I don't think Chris Scott could've managed our run any better this year to be honest (barring the loss of Menzel which is beyond his control) so I would hope that this equates to the Cats playing pretty close to optimum. I think it should be enough to advance to the GF

Yeah i don't personally buy into the bye;) thing at all. Its possible that teams were a bit slack during the season and rusty after the break but that won't happen for finals. Having the week off is definitely an advantage for geelong no doubt about that and i think we will see it come the final quarter.

I like to judge a team's strength on the number of premiership medallions the emergencies have.

Geelong
Milburn, Burns, Mooney = 7

WC
Rosa, Ebert, Smith = oh...embarrassing....

I like to judge a footy fan's opinion by his ability to spell his own player's name.

I would still take Rosa, Ebert and Smith over Milburn, BYRNES and Mooney tbh...

I think the first quarter will say alot, if its close then i think the end result will be close, If geelong has a decent lead at 1/4 time then it could get ugly for the eagles. I think we have seen in recent years that even with 1 team having had a week off the the other to have played the week before the team without the week off can still take it right up to the opposition to the final siren

exacto mundo!...2006 anyone? ;)

I'm not sure the hardness of last weeks game is going to effect tomorrows game.
Yes if it's a bruising encounter up to 3/4 time and scores are level it could be detrimental.

But that scenario is a rare one. Fact is that if the Eagles are up 4 goals in the third quarter adrenalin will assist with any soreness.

The problem for them would be the following week if they were to win this week.
Geelong wont let them through unscathed. Not on your life.

I haven't seen enough of the Eagles this year to discus who is better than who.
But I will say that Geelong seem to fresher at this time of the year than they were in 08,09,10 which is quite remarkable. And on that basis I'd be more gutted to lose tomorrow than I was after the 08 GF.

Maybe we should try to get Leigh Matthews and Dermott Brereton onto our list. That'd make it stronger, right?

prove that you have way way better goal kicking options, beyond reasonable doubt.
I never said we had better goalkicking options, lol

393 to 391 is on topic, try again prove this is not a good measure.
Because we were talking about the top 9 goalkickers of each side, not the whole side. Der.

your statement of "We have much more goalkicking options than Collingwood. " has no supporting facts.
Oh. You know my team better than me. Sorry, I forgot again :(.

It's a solid fact that we can place any of our midfielders, rucks and selected defenders (Mackie, Wojcinski) in the forward line and they can kick a couple of goals. In fact the defenders run forward to set up as well as kick goals often. Make no mistake, that those are their trademarks. How do you think Wojo earnt his rep as a speedy fella? Running in circles down back?

Maybe try to watch a Geelong game.

get your own set of facts and stop using mine.
I laughed. How do I use your facts if I'm arguing with you?

Should also bring up, that your super logical facts are flawed.

Geelong have a new coach, who has done new things (defensive mindset). Do you think that the stats this year limits us to less goalkickers? What about all the goalkickers from the previous 4 years who are still in great form to this day? Scott chooses to play some in the midfield. Doesn't mean they're not an option, because they've kicked less goals from a different position.

Here's a fact.
Geelong averages 10 goalkickers per game for the second half of the season. Collingwood averages 9 goalkickers. Poor effort don't you think, when a team with a defensive mindset averages more goalkickers than you.

Geelong have much more goalkicking options, that can easily switch forward if needed. Just because they're being played in different positions, resulting in less goals, doesn't mean they're not an option.

Is the bye a disadvantage, like it has been all year?

I know I may be grasping at straws here to explain the Pies performance last night, but teams coming off the bye this year have a shocking record.

Yes, the Cats will be fresher late, just as Collingwood were, but will they be scratchy early?

The first quarter will be intriguing to watch, especially to see how the Cats come out.

The break doesn't worry me, as the only prelim we lost in the past 4 years is the one without a break before it (last year).

Fact - West Coast has never lost to Geelong in a final
Fact - West Coast has lost only 1 preliminary final

The facts look pretty good for a WC win today

Fact - St Kilda had never beaten Geelong in a final... until 2010
Fact - Geelong hadn't beaten Hawthorn in a final for almost 40 years... until two weeks ago
:D
