Cracking article from Michael Warner this morning, couldn’t agree more with everything he wrote.

So over having virtue signalling, do gooder rubbish shoved down my throat over and over again. It’s a game, just administer it ffs

The article conflates a lot of complex issues.

I'd largely agree that the game is subject to too many agendas and too much scrutiny...but there is a certain irony in the footy media editorialising about this.

Whether you think there's any merit to some of his arguments or not, it's a terribly written article.

Reactionary nonsense.

Poorly written article, that tosses around words - are we discussing football or seizing the means of production?

Author attempts to play himself off as edgy (my views aren't even allowed to be said, he shouts from a megaphone) and panders to populism (all fair minded Aussies agree with me).

Even the title makes no sense. If the majority of Aussies reject it, then they aren't really turning on each other are they?

I would fully agree the the AFL can by hypocrites. Why not write an article pointing that out clearly without leaning into ill-defined catchphrases like wokeism?

Because this is what his editors tell him to do.
Very few within News Ltd think for themselves … it’s all about clicks and agendas - not journalism.

Constantly being told by the minority how to live your life and how others should be treated or seen as or not allowed to celebrate something because it may offend someone or some corporation trying to get on their moral high horse.

Just shut up and administer the bloody game without the bullshit sidewalk commentary and double standards

The AFL hitched itself to a progressive worldview several years ago now. I doubt much will change that, particularly when they are actively courting markets in Indigenous and multicultural communities.

The challenge with following such a path is how to do it without looking like hypocrites when a light is shone on issues like sports gambling.

So I don’t think there is likely to be much of a change for the AFL, no matter pressure from any media or fans. And they will always point to the scoreboard: crowds are up and ratings are up.

But there will be blips where the AFL gets shown up for double standards and has to offer a mea culpa when their actions don’t live up to their signalling.

constantly being told by the minority how to live your life

What is one example of the "minority" telling you how to live your life? Not telling you to let someone else live their life, but actually specify to you how to live yours?

how others should be treated
Yes, generally it involves show people respect and understanding. Is that a bad thing?

not allowed to celebrate something because it may offend someone
Again, give me an example. Last I checked Easter, Xmas and international talk like a pirate day are all still on the calendar.

A corporate telling us we can’t celebrate Australia Day in pubs, schools telling kids Kris Kringle can’t happen, that’s in the last forty eight hours so don’t start me because it goes on and on and on

Common decency is all you need, I don’t need some muppets telling me how I should treat others, just shut the f up

If people could be trusted to be decent, they wouldn't need to explicitly tell you to do so.

Seeing as you're telling them to shut the **** up, supposedly in a 'decent' way.

What are you trying to say here?

The AFL is a business - if you run everything they do or say through the filter of $ effect - it simplifies the 'complexities' very quickly. ( same as the stoopid HS)

I'm saying that without people to say "Hey, that's not on, mate!" you wind up with people being pretty shitty.

Part of common decency is taking your fair whack when you're being a bit inconsiderate, no?

I think the media today is designed to trigger anger and keep it going - polarisation is all that is left these days - I prefer to stay out of the algebra of who is rightish and who is wrongish - too hard.

My question was genuine - as in I dont understand what you are saying uisng the words that you have used - since you are usually pretty clear and understandable.

I've made my point as clearly as I can without taking the conversation to the SRP.

So Pies have decided to let Hine go... would we consider bringing him into the fold?
Don't need him imo.
My take is he's not what he used to be. Looking at Collingwoods list and their youth selections over the past few years there's not much there. Pretty average really.
Maybe Collingwood have realised that and are moving him on.
Would expect them to keep him in some capacity if he still had something to offer.
Also, our guys in the same job are doing pretty well atm imo.

What exactly is it that you can't do or say - particularly via. any decree from the AFL ?

Not Carlton related, but I just bumped into Andy Brayshaw (Freo) doing hill sprints at serious pace at Half Moon Bay and he looked liked he’d been at it for some time given the sweat he was drenched in.

Had a bit of a chat to him as he was finishing and I said he was mad as I know what he and his brothers are famous for on Christmas Day every year (100x 100m sprints) and he confirmed he would be backing up and doing this tomorrow.

No surprise this guy is so consistent, an absolute pro and a ripping guy as well.
