Okay.
So have checked in with a few people who may know something . A few connected to the club and some connected to the AFL.
One source no it is not true.
Two saying it is on the money.
My best source was no comment.
AFL source said Clarko would prefer to stay in Victoria if he could.
Make of it what you will.
A bit on the fence I know but I suspect there is something going on.

Wonder if as head coach or an oversight type role

The saddest part of this is that it is believable. It's such an Essendon thing to do. Have all these players recommit to play under a young and enthusiastic second year coach. Rip the rug out from beneath them when they bond with the coach and learn the gameplan just because a big name is available. Get said players to learn an entirely new gameplan from scratch again. Get the new coach boost in 2023 and rise to another EF thrashing. Play confused and directionless after that for another 2 years of 'adjusting to the gameplan'.

Does anyone in the club value stability?

And just when we are turning the corner.

If it happened, Clarko will take all he glory, just like Lions fixed Daniher!

I would be gobsmacked TBH.

I was looking back at some old articles with Clarkson when he rejected Carlton’s coaching gig and found this:

‘Alastair Clarkson has confirmed he rejected Carlton’s last-ditch effort to convince him to become their next coach, but admits he has felt a “significant lure” to lead a big Victorian club like them.’

Are we that club his referring to?

I think I would be disappointed.
It would show that we still haven't learned to suppress our need to fill a messiah complex and aren't patient enough to develop for the long term.

Clarkson may be a great coach, but we are 1.5 years through Ruttens tenure and we knew it would be a long haul. Truck has been investing in youth and I would like to see it through, personally.

problem is a lot of people dont have your patience, not any longer anyway.

The board know very well they need to deliver some success in the immediate future.

Do they take the punt Rutten gets it right (after an utterly shit house 2022) and gets us a final win the in the next couple of years? Or does he get it wrong and we dont move forward? And then likely have to start all over again.

We are knocking on the door of 20 years without a final win. The board know this and know members are going to start demanding heads. Patience is just about done.

I wouldn't under estimate how much pressure is on senior management and the board at Essendon of which could impact their choice.

You’d be ******* amazed who my source is.
.. who had his windscreen washed by a guy whose flatmate has a cousin who overhead two guys at the Young and Jackson.
Wonder if he’s the same source as my cousin’s mates uncle. He sat next to a guy on the tram called Johnny who said that his mates neighbour had a reliable source
that Clarko’s at the hangar next year.

For a couple of decades, the mid/late 70's through to the 90's, St Kilda, Richmond and Carlton changed their coach every 2 years roughly on average. Melbourne had 7 different people wearing the coaches hat from 07 to 17.

Is this what will become of us?

I feel we are headed in the right direction under Truck with obviously no guarantee of success. Who can honestly predict that the outcome will be better under Clarkson?

So where do we go if he doesn't take us to the promise land? Another coach, another game plan to adjust to, another 2/3 years of failure, lets get another coach! Rinse and repeat.

Personally, I would rather we keep our commitment to Truck (Just as the Suns showed faith in Dew) and will be disappointed with the club if we don't. The noise says Clarkson wants to stay in Vic (rules out GWS), he wants to coach a big club (LOL Norf😂), prepared to sit out next year if need be. If Truck is a bust next year, good chance that Clarkson will still be available.

How do we know Clarko to us wont be Malthouse to Carlton?

He was 18 months removed from a grand final as coach and less than 3 from a premiership.

Closer than Clarkson is from his.

If this is true then its about as ballsy a move as you can get. I like it.

When you are in the business of winning premiership you go and get the best.
Ballsy? It's cowardly if anything. The only reason why they'd be chasing Clarkson is the imminent drop in revenue due to the imminent decline in memberships. It's another deflection from the board and means of diverting attention. This club is a meme at this point. Get the biggest name you can think of and kick the can down the road hoping this time it's different to the many gimmicks in the past.

It's feeling like "Dreamteam 2.0". I get secondhand embarrassment thinking about them sacking a guy commencing a rebuild for 8 really poor quarters vs 3 top 4 contenders in his second year after making finals in his first year.

The fans will lap it up and then melt when Clarkson is finished with football in 4 years.
