It can't happen.

The AFL has to vet the matching amount against the cap etc. If the matching figure goes over (assuming a massive set of calculations and some forecasting so they don't wipe out the rest of the playing list) then the AFL tells them no.

That's what I am hoping for here. Cameron's manager would be well aware of what the Giants tabled as an offer, that would have been known to Geelong ... Geelong offers more (or structures it in such a way where they would struggle to match). AFL scrutinises and says, "yeah ... nah" to Giants trying to match.

GWS have done themselves no favors in how they have paid their other stars. That they are getting all "up in our grills" over this and complaining to everybody that doesn't want to listen just goes to show how close they are to becoming a complete sh*t show for a few years. Dave Matthews was installed by the AFL up there to ensure this sort of thing shouldn't have happened ... and now he is salty ... poor form by him.
Geelong are a very well run club financially and would have structured it in a way it can't be matched.
They've definitely gone about it the wrong way and looks like it will come back to haunt them.
They could take the first round pick and we'll do a side deal for our mystery mid lol and everyone walks away happy. Or throw in a player who wants to leave.
Geelong are a very fair team to deal with but if they keep carrying on hope they get nothing in return.

The biggest problem with free agency is the compensation calculation. Of course GWS will not accept p10 for Cameron when they've traded out MIDs for two first-rounders, they know they can get at least that for a relatively young Coleman medallist. The compensation needs to make them question whether they'd get more at the trade table or not, which in this case there's no question.

I cant agree that comp is the biggest problem. The affect it has on the draft is worse. Other issues as well like RFA , length of time before FA ... quite few problems. If Cameron is not a UFA at his age then the process and concept needs work

Brian Cook and I quote "Jeremy will be nominating for Free Agency on the 30th of October and we will not be making any comment until then. We have other things to concentrate on"

Ps Said next year will mostly likely be his last and that Franky Costa had been sick and had undergone multiple treatments over the last two months"

To me he was quite open till asked about Cameron... he then shut it down quickly . My thoughts were ..thats what you should have done the other day.

I dont think its sounded that good about Costa ..if Hawkins, Selwood and Danger all zoomed him after the win

Agree with all that.

Yeah it sounded like he had something like cancer with the "treatment" comments. He did say Frank was up and about now however. Fingers crossed for the great man

2 callers in the last 5 minutes have called SEN and said Sav would be a great backman
One a hawks supporter and the other a geelong supporter
I’ve heard it all now
Full Nuffy

I think I heard a collingwood and Haw supporters asking about Sav...no hint of what they might offer for him of course. The Geelong supporter who said if he could play back there is spot here was fair enough imo... he has a strong mark..whether that can making him backman or not ..not sure. These days , you have to read the play and be good in traffic. ..and we all have seen some of the in game choices he has made.

SEN latest update is that there is no rival interest in Chook. Given his contract he's odds on to stay you would think.

One must remember ...there will be a lot of reasonable players moved on this year..with more experience at the top level than CC this year. The second hand market will be flooded. If Crouch had come he really would be a cooked chook ..now however he has a chance, another year to break in.

So in theory missing on crouch gives Cameron a bigger contract that GWS can't match?

Possible.

and even more so if we can do a deal with North to keep Higgins money.

Work out the absolute max amount we can pay him for two years and tell them thats what we will submit or take this and this. Its annoying as we should not have to pay anything if FA worked properly but these are the rules ..so let see wells and co use them(if they do not want to be reasonable)

The Hawks have one upped us in the FA stakes by signing Kyle Hartigan. Damn them.

I’m already excited by the prospect of playing them next year.
Frost, Hartigan and grandpa Burgoyne up against Hawkins, Cameron and Danger.
If we happen to lose this weekend I’ll just keep thinking of those match ups in 2021.
Delicious 😋

We weren't too fussed with Crouch ... I mean we wanted him at the club but weren't willing to offer him what he wanted or what he thought he was worth. The Saints got desperate.

I thought that it sounded like a reasonable idea. Haven't we turned a few 'forwards; into backs?

He is a great mark, but his field kicking and decision making are both atrocious. Would really need to work on those aspects of his game to be part of the back line playing the system Scott wants to play. Not sure he has it in him, quite frankly, and I really want Sav to succeed here.

It does but my guess is if we want to we can frontload a deal so high that they cant match. Depends what we want to do.

Its not totally out of the question ..it depends on where the clubs see his best pos going forward..atm I think its ruck

I think that it is unlikely.
I think that it is more likely that Kreuger will play in defense next season, should Harry pull the pin.

I'm so confused about English - is he good or not? They seem to want to persist with him regardless. Is he just young and inexperienced?

Others may disagree....but FWIW..he's good all right and will get better. Just my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

They either are reasonable or we go hard and get him for FA. I listened to SOS on. SEN this morning... several times he was talking about a players manager conditioning his current club ..was interesting. ..and probably IF GWS thought that he was staying then maybe the manager has not done much in the way of preparing GWS

AS to our deal... does front loading the submitted deal help? Id say we have to put a two year contract down on the able..then once we have him add anotehr 3 or 4..what ever we have offer him.. maybe even making Y3 slim to balance out if anyone has to move their contract to get Cameron in.

I dont know how much... but if we had enough for Crouch... and we can get Higgins in on min chips... then I think we could really off a significantly big offer IF GWS do not want to be reasonable.

Id rather look at GWS's young players to be honest..trust the kids we have ... look at the draft..

I thought he’s showed some good signs. His main problem is he has been thrown to the wolves and hasn’t been able to do an apprenticeship under a good first ruck.

Id love that.... potential he could be so good for us if he gets a opportunity in the middle.... its only his 3rd season.. people expect starts from year 1... the old saying goes " you have to crawl before you can walk"
