Yep, there are three players I want going through the inside next year (Chook, Narkle, Stephens) and the obvious ones to lose inside midfield time are Menegola, Danger and Selwood.

If Clarke wants to go still think there is a move to package him and menegola to freo for better return

Menegola has done nothing wrong but Simpson, Parfit, narkle, stevens, Stephens potentially even Constable need to be prioritised over him for midfield minutes. Evans needs a run on flanks as well.

Menegola may want to go home and get an extra year or so

Reported on SEN that Scarlett has confirmed he will not be at Geelong next year.

Lappin also linked to a move as Vossy assistant but has a long term deal in front of him to head cats development.

So much change. Would love to hear from hocking & Scott soon on the direction for the off season and beyond.

LoL @ getting a straight answer from Scott...

Doubt Freo want Sam now

Both Krueger and Clark still a chance to remain.

Scarlett going will be a positive for Clark.

Krueger offered 3 years elsewhere, Cats offered 2 I’m told. So if they want to keep him (if) then there’s not much in it if they budge on the extra year.

I don't think they should give him 3 years.

He is hardly on the park due to injuries.

Interesting.

To rebuild or continue FA pathway? (Just filling in time in lockdown).

GFC may have realised that at the end of 2011 /12 the road ahead would be difficult. With retiring/slowing older champions they would have been well aware then that change was needed but the traditional pathway to regeneration was blocked. Most people know this stuff but just to remind myself I had a quick sqizz at the drafts of 2012 and 2013 .

What I had forgotten was how much that GCS and GWS in turn had a large chunk of the high end young talent under there control. It included being able to select under age pre draft 17 yo kids ( a dozen each ) and they also received picks 1,2,3,5,7,9,11,13 (GCS) in the '12 and (GWS) '13 drafts plus first dibs at the rookies in each of the '11 and '12 draft (5 GCS and 8 GWS). Plus other advantage picks /zones.

Thats a lot of talent out of the pool. Clubs at the bottom from 2010 - 2014 had a hard road to get back up. GFC obviously decided to postpone any rebuild and pioneered the build by FA path. It worked well but not quite well enough to get another cup.

Where do things stand now? Tassie is on the way in. My estimate (for what its worth) is that they will be admitted in a couple of years and in the years that follow Tassie will get similar or better concessions. So that probably leaves this draft '21 plus 2022 and 2023 drafts pretty much intact before Tassie gets going.

We have little capital this year but if we are going to get some of that wooden stuff (and picks that go with it) we had better hurry or we might find the way back a long one and then we have to hope we are better than all others.
Unrelated but If Tassie gets inducted in a few years $5 says they get a premiership before GWS/GC.

Plus the payout to get rid of Scott would be higher.
May have bought himself some credits by foregoing salary last year perhaps?
I would actually extend Scott for two years but front load his contract so he doesn't have a lot to pay out in 2023-24. We can do that and bring on some assistants that aren't senior coaches in waiting, that way we get to try out a few assistants and also have a decent offer to make a prospective new senior coach.

And he would have great trade currency compared to Thurlow

TBF Thurlow looked pretty good before his knee injury, He was an excellent kick. Then when he came back his kicking had gone to shit and never came back. Can't predict injuries. The current team could look very different if we had Thurlow/McCartney/**** and Menzel running around.

Reading gold coast and Richmond boards, I think we can target pick 7.
If 3,19 is traded for 7 , Richmond 2022r1;
We could then target pick 7.

30, Geelong 2022r1 for pick 7.
Seems absurd, but gold coast have a massive list, not really that many out of contract players to delist.
By trading heavily into next year, they can give themselves time to assess players on their list.

Maybe what I suggest is slightly unrealistic, but if they really want to focus on the 2022 draft we could do something.
Or trade 30 and Geelong 2022r1 for
19,22, gold coast 2022r2
Thinking outside the box should be applauded but I don't think that will get up

Our future rd1 could really be anything too

He can barely run in the middle he would also be exposed in the forwards espically with his kicking these days

when a player is cooked he’s cooked
This is pure rubbish. He’s the second best field kick in our side next to Duncan and one of the few you can rely on to hit a target inside 50 when he finds space.

Polled the second most votes in the Brownlow for us and 4th on this forums MVP. Whilst not the elite AA quality player he once was he still offers plenty has been durable. Hard to say he’s cooked.

He's cooked compared to his peak. But even cooked he is still a better than average mid. His 2021 was excellent overall.

I would say Hawkins better field kick with Duncan, but Selsy is cooked unless it's just a tie-down contested game with no run and with another year older comes a loss of half a yard in which clubs will start to exploit, think he has gone on too long now and just hope he can damage mitigate next season.

The line-up wanted by some posters

O'Connor SDK Clark
Stewart Kreuger Henry
Holmes Constable Simpson
Miers Ratagolea Close
Evans Cameron Narkle
Tsapo Parfitt Stephens
I/C Stevens Neale Brander Brownless
Em Knevitt, Gribble, Rachelle

Kolo, Blicavs, Bews, Zuthrie on the trade table
Selwood, Hawkins, Tuohy, Smith, Dahlhaus, Duncan, Guthrie, Menegola, Henderson, Higgins, Fort, Stanley, Rohan to the knackery.

Temporary loyalty is Harsh lol

It's a strange time when we aren't really linked to any players coming in, perhaps we are gearing up for a solid draft season or will there be a surprise out of the box we aren't expecting

I think it may be the old one two punch

One: draft in four 18s this year
Two: trade in or FA with increased cap space post Joel, dal, Higgins, smith, Rohan etc at end of 22

Wells and Co have 12 months to sell the dream

Either assistants all walked or were pushed - both not great, fresh ideas needed but this is an exodus or clean out.

Something makes me feel Scotty is being told he has to accept entering his last year without an extension

I hope scotty can be supported to be the Geelong person he claims to be and pass the Batton -

Radio silence could be Yze or Giansiracusa both assistants in granny- being selected as in coming coach with a transition year with Scotty-

At least I ****ing hope so

We can’t extend Scotty over the summer- we can let him fight for his job in his last year and we can explore late next year but **** me let’s have some bravery and put the club first

If Scott loves Geelong he will be willing to do either of the above and it’s his choice
