With Scarlett reportedly now gone, wonder if a few younger guys that were considering their options may now think more about staying

---

With Scarlett gone, at it most basic it means a new thinking to our defence and hopefully a new look with new personnel also

I wonder if Scarlett’s resignation affects the Clark situation. If rumours are true that Scarlett refused to have him as part of his back line then perhaps a new defensive coach (or even Scott) may see Clark as part of that setup moving forward.

Reported on SEN that Scarlett has confirmed he will not be at Geelong next year.
Lappin also linked to a move as Vossy assistant but has a long term deal in front of him to head cats development.
So much change. Would love to hear from hocking & Scott soon on the direction for the off season and beyond.
Lappin has been around us too long also. Another Scott yes man.

Ruck is well down our list of problems imo
Jesus, people have short memories here.

With a real ruck we'd probably have at least one if not two more flags right now. Ruck has been a priority for a decade and if a half decent one in the right age bracket is available we should make it happen. You can get midfielders too, it's not one or the other.

Just imagine what could have been if Goldstein had agreed to come here :(

We've heard enough of Scott's condescending double-speak. I'd rather be strapped down and forced to listen to gladys' press-conferences for the rest of my days that sit through a minute more of Scott's superior, belligerent obfuscation. How many more years of this soul-destroying purgatory must we endure?

A time of change? I very much doubt it. Just a few guys falling on the sword to preserve Scott's all powerful position within the club.

I realise that this isn't a popular opinion around here, so I'll show myself out. It's not like there is anything to get excited about re the cats anymore.

Richmond
Cotchin pick 2
Dusty pick 3
Riewoldt pick 13
Rance pick 18
Prestia traded pick 6

Hawthorn
Hodge pick 1
Buddy pick 5
Roughy pick 2
Lewis pick 7
Birchall pick 13
Rioli pick 12

Without these guys there are zero premierships

Sorry to intrude but Astbury was a first round pick also. Great players that went early but I really feel like we were able to win premierships off team chemisty more than talent. We nailed the rookie selections in Grimes, Lambert Baker, Soldo, Broad, Short, Butler & Castagna off the stop of my head. Can't remember whether McIntosh was originally a rookie. Houli, Grigg, Nank, Caddy were very good trades/FA.

Essentially we won premierships by having a group of early draft pick talent that had many years playing together before it clicked and was filled with FA/Trades and a stack of rookie listed players. Not much really that was in 30plus draft pick range.

So the senior coach didn't have enough faith to go in to bat for him? Why would he want to continue under him?

You may very well be right.

I think every successful side will have used all recruitment avenues and maximized value from them: Draft, rookie, FA and trade. I do believe it has been shown from multiple successful sides over the last 20 years that it's vital to have that experienced and talented core group brought in within a few years of each other, which can only really happen by going hard and drafting well for a few years.

I've been fine with Scott's game plan because we're consistently winning and competing. I'm quite sick of it now.

It's a little soul destroying and I'd rather we get back to some exciting Geelong brand football.

Not sure Scott is the man for the job. On the same token I'm fine for him to take this list he's helped build and have another crack while he's contracted and the old brigade are still there and contracted.

Clark cannot lock down a player. Kolo can.

Regardless of whether Kolo is worth having in the team or not they are different types of players and Clark does not have the nous/ability/strength etc to do what Kolo does.

Clark needs to be the type that plays like Stewart (if he is HBF).
Wojo never played like Stewart, hunt didn't, bews doesn't and kolo certainly doesn't.
Bowey doesn't, Adam Saad doesn't, Caleb Daniel doesn't, Nick hind doesn't, jack crisp doesn't, should I go on

Deckchairs and Titanic come to mind...

Id hope the senior coach has enough balls to overrule an assistant, if Scott wanted Clark down back he'd have played there.
Yeah. Regardless if Scarlett said no to Clark, Scott can always overrule and never did. Only thing that swings me toward Scott thinking Clark goes ok see his comments during the season regarding Clark and being the sub.

Essentially they went along the lines of he wants to win and if that means Clark doesn't get a full game of VFL then so be it.

no I think Clark is better suited to the Laird/Tuohy/Lloyd role, accumulating possesions and running off the HBF

This just supports exactly what I said i.e. they had early picks here and there, but their premiership teams were built through trades and free agency also. Richmond had four early picks, Hawthorn had six. They also traded players in:

Richmond
Bachar Houli
Jacob Townsend
Josh Caddy
Toby Nankervis
Dion Prestia
Shaun Grigg

Hawthorn

Brian Lake
Shaun Burgoyne
Josh Gibson
Jack Gunston
David Hale
Brent Guerra

Not to mention the mature age recruits both teams drafted/rookied. Point being, the argument of draft vs trade/free agency is stupid. It has to be a combination of both.

Another misfits quote in the farewell. I wonder if you actually got drafted to the club as a defender you couldn’t qualify as a misfit??
This quote:

"I will really miss the ‘misfits’ – a great group to work with. I wish the club success in the future.”

Does that mean he didn't really work with those not part of the 'misfits'?
