Port wouldnt have given a future 3rd for him it would have been like a pick in the 70s at best. Can see why we just delisted him so he can get there.
I think part of the messaging to the Geelong players who can’t crack a regular game is that other clubs know how hard it is to get into the 22 so keep playing well in VFL and putting pressure on - as worst case that other clubs will want you and can continue AFL career….and that the club will make it easy for that to happen in that circumstance.

It doesn’t really cost the club that much in those circumstances and adds to the culture

Any truth to the rumour that Holmes is dirty at the club for being dropped after the medical staff declared him fit, and is considering asking for a trade??

No! Garbage

Strange from the Josh Barnes article. Seems like the club is seeking a ruling?

Although eight Cats have been taken off the list so far, spots are still at a premium given midfield bull and rookie Tom Atkins will need to be elevated to the senior list next year.

Geelong is expecting to find out in coming days whether forward Brad Close will need to be elevated as well.

It’s sounding like we are going to get all five of our targets in: Bowes, McKenna, Henry, Bruhn and pick 7. I can’t explain how excited I am. Pick 7 is the absolute icing on the cake here.

Clubs clamouring to secure Gold Coast midfielder Jack Bowes and the Suns’ cherished No.7 pick could spread his $1.6 million salary obligation over four years in a major boost for teams with tight salary caps.
Geelong and Hawthorn head a pack of clubs chasing Bowes that also includes Essendon and North Melbourne. The Roos were expected to make their bid for the former No.10 pick over the weekend.

Gold Coast is prepared to trade Bowes and the No.7 pick to his club of choice, and if he arrived at the Cats he could be the centrepiece of deals that would also secure former first-round picks Tanner Bruhn (GWS) and Ollie Henry (Geelong).

The Cats could split the No.7 draft pick from the Suns to help satisfy the Giants and Pies with trade requests.

But the Herald Sun understands the AFL has made clear the Suns would need to secure a draft pick in return for the Bowes salary dump. That is likely be a future second-round pick.

Henry, Bruhn, Bowes and McKenna are not filling any immediate need. They are more so improving our list and giving us some additional young talent. All 4 would be great but it's not like we are in dire straights if we don't get them all in.

Realistically, Holmes replaces Joel for round 1. Barring injuries, that's the side as at today. It's up to everybody else on the list come final lodgement to give the selection committee reason enough to rethink selection.

Clearly the club are looking a little further down the path.

I was just sitting here realising that should we get Bruhn, Henry, and Bowes...even if we need to split the #7 pick...and keep the now likely #20 pick. that would be 4 top 20 additions to our premiersbip squad....and maybe even add McKenna...

How awesome is that.
