Can't see it being 2 x R1s, considering they need cap relief. If we do that, we will probably get 2 x R2s back.

Cap relief is taranto hill etc gone. They will just keep hopper to his contract unless our offer is good.

They are losing Taranto, Hooper, Hill and Bruhn. I would assume they would want players that can slot right in.

GWS have expressed interest in Esava previously. Could potentially also see a Narkle in the mix there.
They might ask again about sav purely because he's 198cm tall but he's still steak knives.

No one is asking about Narkle

They might be steak knives at the Cattery as they aren't regular starters however at other clubs they would slot right in. He's probably in our top 30 playing list at present as well.

Narkle would be a good replacement for Hill or Bruhn loss.

Narkle isn't replacing anyone at senior level. His career is over. Sav still has a shot but his value is only marginally higher than his list spot in trade terms.

Still, he could be a face saver to skew public perception of a trade. Like Jasper Pittard in the Polec trade. He has enough highlights on the reel to convince casual fans its not a loss in an otherwise bad trade

I think at this point kpd is either going to be a draft and sit in the vfl or a failed forward to sit in the vfl. I don't think we should be looking ready made at this point.

I think sav could be that failed forward for us too
As with all failed tall forwards... he'll become a very serviceable tall back man. Like Liam jones and Tommy Lonergan ?

I wouldn't say all of them. Josh Schache for example
Sav has so much more natural athletic ability than Schache and a penchant to throw his body around.
Easier to play as defender than a CHF.
FWIW His standing amongst the playing/coaching group along is pretty high.
So I wouldn't be putting any line through him just yet.
His value this year will be the same as it is next year... saying a Pick around 40-50 will be there next year i'd say.
For Me... We keep and try to develop him as a tall back. After all we have SDK and Henry under 29 and thats it.

Would they take Stephens? Cheaper than they are losing but was a reasonably high pick with upside so maybe they would value him highly And reduce what we need to pay in picks?

The the question is Would we let him go? I reckon he will be frustrated next year if he isn’t regular 22 and even with Selwood going if you bring hopper, his relative positioning doesnt change? He is behind Parf who wasnt in best 22 last week!
I have mentioned trading Stephens if possible.

Purely because he may still have some value and I'm not convinced about him at all.

If we could save draft capital by moving Stephens on and upgrade the side at the same time, it would be pretty good for mine.

Doubt he moves though as he is contracted and is a Geelong local.

The last thing gws need is an inside mid they have too many inside mids and are trying to rebalance their list. So they wouldnt want stephens or narkle. Sav is possible but he is steak knives value (ie r3) at best in a trade.
Also not sure if we would trade stephens i still think he can make it here. I also doubt he wants to leave he absolutely loves the club so we would have to push him and i doubt we do.

I too have wondered about Schache as a possible key defender. He's very talented but something may be lacking given he still can't cement a place in the Dog's team. It's true many failed forwards have made great defenders, Liam Jones, McCartin etc etc. How old is Schache? He is a much better kick than Esava that's for sure.

I doubt if Cooper Stephens will be going anywhere: the Cats have put a lot of work in to him plus Jack the Godfather loves him. Anyway i think Stephens will make it as a player.

As for Grundy, we finished clear on top without him and have just won our way in to the PF: it's a gamble we don't need to take. We need mid-fielders far more than we need Grundy.

They tried Schache as a defender and it didn’t work.

Also Cats might’ve put work into him but we also put that work into others we trade aka Fogarty etc.
Jack might love him, but he might’ve have to enjoy watching him from a far if he doesn’t do anything next year

Schache has no intensity. All the talent in the world but is too timid. Doesnt make it at afl level imo.

So long as its not 2 r1s.

I like hopper but grundy would still be my top target (subject to medical).

2R1's?

A deal like.... three R1's out and two R2's back seems to have worked.

Would we do that again? On form we are talking two picks verging on in the 20's.... with something back.

My preference would be to give them a player and keep the pick but we know that story. Players have traditionally said no. He is contracted.. so we will be the whipping boys to some degree. What is the attraction for GWS. SC relief so the deal is not as important? Or would they want more than a Band two comp. What are they going to get for Taranto?

Schache lack of verve was always an issue. The lower intensity of junior football hid that chink. One look at the week end football should dissuade interest in him. If you can not compete in that level then look for a lower one.

Who we look at for our long term development for backline. Its probably going to be some under valued tall or one over looked.

Be nice to add a Bussinlinger but I think we will struggle to have pick in the first 25

Thinking if the final against the Pies.... it probably is a cap tip towards what worked and what we need.

Danger and Joel starting in the bench but coming on and playing roles. Joel will go down as one of my all time favourites. They have changed rules on him and he just keeps going at the ball. Danger looks to have a lost a little in vertical.. Did he take a pack mark like he was taking all the time in the past? But he added another seasoned head and what he did was great in that type of a contest. Huge body and can bang with the best of them.

There were several KPI players that game had a big impact on us winning.

Cameron obviously...but Rohan also . His vertical covered Toms lack of spring to some degree. Having players who kick goals from contested situations ..where its not a clean pass..which is what Tom has a lot thru the year. Is Toms long term replacement already on the list? Do we add another like Rohan that adds speed as well?

Holmes was just so important. His ability to run and move changes us imo. It would not surprise me to see us add another great runner..is that draft , Binns or someone like OConnor or whoever but ... I remember what Holmes looked like V the AA kids when our VFL side played them ..he ripped them apart. I dont think anyone looked like that in our VFL this year.

It was a shame to see Stanley play one of his poor games ..after such a good year. he just look out of touch. WE do need a more reliable marker. Again ..similar to Hawk..is he already on the list.

The key reasons why we won imo...was the addition of youth and the change in style. The last play to score a goal exemplified this. Holme running and playing on...not trying to work it from possession. Risk ..and imperfect contest...rather than perfect skill and lower tempo and reduced physical contest.

Where does it leave those that missed out games? .. It will be fascinating post season to see what we do. Hopper will be a good add but I cant see him adding pure running speed.

Why would they want our rejects? They would want a play in our best 22 not VFL top up players

Oh well, I did suspect there was something amiss with Schache; maybe he just doesn't want it enough. I was hoping we'd take Charley Dean but he's been out with injury since he arrived at the Pies so we won't know for some time if he's the real deal.

I'm assuming we'll lose our pick 18 in the Hopper trade, so we're going to have to find some hidden gems from somewhere to fill our mid-field and key defender gaps, albeit the more urgent need is for mids.

It's been annoying watching Windhager and McDonald playing for their respective teams; hopefully it will become less so if and when Willis and co emerge as bona fide AFL players. Willis, in particular, looks very likely, and I seem to recall that Whyte was looking very promising before he was injured.

Richmond's season has only just ended, but the Tigers are poised to be one of the busiest club's this off-season.

Tom Browne has reported on Triple M Footy this afternoon that Richmond could land both Tim Taranto & Jacob Hopper from GWS.

It is rumoured that Taranto could offered as much as a 7-year deal, while Hopper is still firmly on their radar despite strong links to Geelong.

Browne also reported that Trent Cotchin has been offered a one-year deal to play on next year.

They are going full tilt for a flag it sounds. Surprised they have the cap space? Who is on unders
