Posted this on the Dees board, and most agree that it wouldn't make much sense if it were just 25 and 33 alone:

"What's stopping Port just dealing with us or Essendon directly though, if that were the case?

Future 1st for Sav and Future 2nd
Geelong Future 2nd and 43 for BZT
Port Future 2nd and 37 for Soldo
Future 3rd for Sweet

No need for a middle man if only those two picks are involved. Would think there'd have to be more to it, IMO."

Based on finishing positions this year... wouldPorts Fr1 and our Fr2 ..be an acceptable outcome. It could be 16 for Sav and 26 ...

Is Holmes being unhappy actually based on anything?

Collingwood made the call, like 16 other clubs probably did. Max had a poor year (as young players are prone to), and suddenly we've made the leap to 'He's leaving' pretty quickly.

He's just bought a house in G-Town, best mates with Shannon Neale...I'm going to need to see a little more before we hit the panic button.

hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Most of these guys had no input into where they are playing..if we look like we are going to take a couple of years to refresh our list ... is it that unreasonable that a club like those in contention may appeal? I feel its a new era and a certain amount of player movement is to be expected.Im sure thats why the trend toward longer contracts have become popular.

What ever happened to Mahelpi?
too many mystery mid predictions went wrong...

and ... well.... you know.....

After seeing how the Cats have treated Sav two years in a row, players will now think twice about going to Sleepy Hollow,
Yeah you’re probably right we have treated him just as bad as we did Tim Kelly.
I’ve got no idea why Jeremy Cameron, Isaac Smith, Johno Ceglar, Tanner Bruhn, Jack Bowes and Ollie Henry would want to come to such a poorly run club after the treatment of Kelly. 🙄

Hahahahahahahahahahha wot? You dropped your captain mid-year, put a club legend in Boak as the sub in finals. For what? To go out in straight sets. Enjoy following a feeder club

Just imagine that if instead of Port making misleading promises of success to Boak, you allowed him to follow the band back to Geelong, he'd be retiring as a 350 game premiership player...

Good at times was about it. I thought the next step was gonna be taken. I was disappointed.
Unfortunately his skillset regarding his kicking is pretty average.
Great athlete Yes. As being a great footballer he has a long ways to go.
And thats the fear i have. If he is the best we have now we are in really big trouble.
If we see another repeat of his 2023 season, his worth would be sweet FA.
Do you sell high if a nice pick was presented??
Can't answer that.

Cadman has done nothing yet to excite. He’s got a four year deal I think 🤔
Cadman hasn't signed yet for 2025.

With respect and dignity, telling anyone who will listen how much we value him?

It Must suck to be loved

I’ve had some further conversations today will very well connected people.

Can’t stress more strongly the fact that the Thomas matter is going nowhere.

Not criticising the intel from Calder as it may have had legs previously. But he won’t be at Geelong under any circumstances.

Bailey Smith ….. that’s another matter.

Should we be concerned regarding Holmes being linked to other clubs. It sounds like we are very keen to re-sign him asap but they are happy to wait?
TBH if the rumours are true and wants to leave at the end of 2024... id rather trade him now as his worth more being contracted.. Cash him in now

Honestly if Holmes is going to put up a season like this season every year ill happily move him on, some of his efforts this year were putrid, he didnt look happy at all.
Another Jordan Clark if we lose him. Holmes will be a gun and would have been a premiership player. Still a maturing kid playing with a poor MF group all year, and people expecting a Nick Daicos level- that was never going to happen.
He needs to be convinced that he is loved and wanted. If we lose a kid like that, our MF looks even poorer.

I'm on this boat 100%, felt his form declined this year. Would want a big 2024 before committing too much to keep him. But there could be more to his form than we're aware of and we get what we all want from him next season.

He missed footy with a knee issue this year, so who knows if it was bothering him for the rest of the season? Considering how limited our midfield depth was, it wouldn't surprise me if he was playing injured, out of necessity, like so many others were.

But it's amazing how in a season where pretty much every player, bar Miers, regressed, due to a variety of reasons, that all of a sudden so many are content to trade out a guy, who 12 months ago, was seen as a future star of the club and was deemed untouchable. All on the back of a few unsubstantiated rumours too.

Never change BigFooty.

Yeah I'd say Holmes will have a much better career than Clark IMO (I was fine losing Clark).

We got Conway for losing him so If Conway can have a decent run without getting hurt I'd think we upgraded players... Not sure if we lose Holmes that we will get an upgrade with the return.

Holmes does need to step it up next year though... No excuses for him and Bruhn... It's time to start shining.

Haven't they categorically said come back in 2024?

It feels like we're going in circles here. He's coming...he's not coming. Which one is it?

I think all parties would be very keen to say no trade is happening until they're sure the dogs would accept the trade we offer.

Maybe it's a wait and see on Sav compo. If it's a pick 20-25 then we're in business. Future 2nd, no sale?

Which make him a perfect target. Watching him kick goals in the VFL the other week... id like him on our list.
