OOC doesn't really mean the same thing anymore. Look at us with Sav and our asking price this year vs last year. Look at TK and Jez either way.

I've no doubt that if it were this year or next year, we'd be giving up a Top 10 pick for him, regardless. Might as well give it up now in an extremely compromised draft, where we might miss out on the 'top end', anyway.

Who knows what'll happen, but we'll definitely make it happen if it's on the table. Don't think we'd give up two firsts and a second - as no player has commanded that in the last decade.

We aren’t getting Smith for just pick 7 this year.

I'd trade holmes for two first rounders around the 7-10 mark. Use them and possibly another lesser pick to bring in a KPF like Oscar Allen.

Or maybe is this unrealistic ?

For the sake of argument, let’s assume that Smith changes his mind and wants to leave. Under contract what sort of deal would it take?

I’m thinking pick 7 plus FF plus F2. A lot to give up. I think that’s too much for one player where our list is right now. If we were likely to challenge then perhaps. But right now I think we should be building our list systematically before throwing all our eggs into the one basket. We still have a number of holes to fill.

That won't happen simply because it's not permitted, unless the F2 in question belongs to another team

When trading future picks, you can either trade a Future First and no other for picks, or trade other Future picks but not your future first

That would have been one of the factors in our pick trade with Brisbane last year, because that took our future first off the table for sending to either GC in the Bowes deal or Collingwood in the Henry deal - it meant we had our F3 for GC and we'd deal with Collingwood on what we had available in 2022

It's also why following the 4-way trade which involved JHF to Port for their F1st, they was trying to get permission from the AFL to be able to trade other future picks to try and secure the Ratugolea trade last season but they didn't get permission

I'd love Oscar, but can't see WCE letting him go under any circumstance - he's the brightest thing about their future, need to keep him and hope he does stay for the benefit of WCE and the league

I'd love a top 10 pick for Sav as well... but it just aint ever happening.

We'd be lucky to get one top-10 pick for Holmes if he wanted out...Two is really dreaming kinda stuff.

Holmes would be lucky to get us one first rounder in that range, let alone 2.

And Allen would cost a lot more than whatever Holmes is worth in any case

I agree that it doesn't change worth that much, but it does impact how likely a club might be to agree to a trade.

WBD held firm on Dunkley when first asked for a trade, so they may do the same with Smith. Like you mention we did the same with Esava last year.

You're just going to have to trust me.

I was the first to break the Bailey Smith interest, so i can assure you I'm not here making sh!t up.

Let's just say any info I get doesn't come from Geelong.
Come clean... You are Smith's mum and Lord's dad... Not sure how you did that but I'll take your word for it.

Can’t believe people actually entertain the idea that west coast would give up Allen. It’d be like opposition fans trying to convince themselves they could get Hawkins or Selwood from us back in the day.

Lucky to get 1 late first.
So by this you actually mean his expected value is somewhere in the second round, pick 20-35? I'm not sure about that.

Clark was valued at slightly higher than pick 22 when he traded him to Fremantle, after 32 games spread over 3 seasons at only 12 disposals per game. He then improved and became a 20 disposal per game player at his new club.

Holmes has played 39 games over the past two seasons alone, going at 17-18 disposals per game in that time. He's on the cusp of being that 20 disposal per game player without much improvement. Thus he's comfortably worth a first round pick.

That’s my point. Wait twelve months until he’s out of contract and at least pay something more reasonable.

This argument is said a fair bit. The problem is, who says Smith wants to come to us next year?

Think about Dunkley, requested a trade to Essendon one year and the dogs refused because he was contracted, then the following year leaves for Brisbane.

Joe Daniher requested a trade to Sydney one year and Essendon refused because he was contracted, then the following year he leaves for Brisbane.

A year is a long time. There's every chance Smith changes his mind in a year and decides he'd rather go somewhere else, or even potentially stay at the dogs if he get's more midfield time/Bevo get's sacked.

Chris Scott asked for a gun inside mid, and the best young key forward in the comp.

Smith & Lord fits that bill in terms of what we can realistically do.
