Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Free Agency Period

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Really like him.

We'll get Smith all things being equal, but wouldn't be overly disappointed if we didn't and could still land a player like Allen.

If there ever a year where it's a good thing to have a mid-first, it's this year. Just so even.

Yep, agreed. It’s just the years of development it will take, which means we miss our push with Danger and Jezza.

Yep, all part of the equation.

You get Smith, who inherently makes Holmes, Bruhn, Dempsey, & Clark better by taking the focus off them and helping them develop too.

Someone like Allen could very well end up the better player - but it wouldn't help us right now, nor would the flow on effect help with anyone elses development.

I don't mind Allan but I think he's a long shot to be better than smith

Not really the point though.

The point is he could be, as could many of the early picks this year - but they won't help us develop our younger players, so it's a net negative for 5-6 years.

We've seen how many don't want to Smith on this board, but they're missing that point for mine.

It's arguably more important than what Smith will actually do himself, which I don't think enough people have brought into their consideration.

I agree with this. To use an analogy, we need to find a lead singer, we’ve got backup vocals covered in our midfield. We’ve done a remarkable job developing players to AFL standard, list depth is amazing! What we really need is a young Brad Ottens and Dangerfield, even if the cost us an arm and a leg in draft capital.

A young Brad Ottens and Dangerfield would cost more than arm and a leg each. But before that they have to exist first and then be on the market before we can even try to pay those arms and legs.

The best 3 ruckmen on the market last year
1. Grundy who didn't want us twice
2. Goldstein who didn't want us twice
3. Soldo who isn't very good

The best 3 midfields on the market last year, none of whom really move the needle.
1. Taylor Adams
2. James Harmes
3. James Jordon

Secondly - I could care less about smith doing coke one time. Does it concern me a little that he was stupid enough to let it be recorded and end up on social media? A little. But my major concerns are his knee injury AND the fact that he has not shown to be a quality player since 2022.
If you could care less then I thought you would be more bothered than just "a little" by images being distributed on social media.

I'd love to see how many of your posts over the last 3 years have been Knevitt bashing.

He was a pick in the mid twenties. Whether he makes it or not is not going to determine our future, it's not something to get so worked up about.

We got Dempsey from the same draft anyway. Swap their draft positions if it makes you feel better.
It's pretty clear straunchy has a personal vendetta against knevitt. Maybe a girl chose knevitt over him?

Any potential of jack McRae?? Interesting stat that in 2021 he broke the all time possession statistic in a single season with 880 possessions for the year. He is still only 30 at seasons end. Wouldn’t mind him on the cheap for two years of midfield time to help transition
Just thought I'd jump in quickly on Jack Macrea's contract. He signed a five year deal at the end of 2022 worth about 750 per year, this was before the new collective bargaining agreement and doesn't scale up like Oliver's is going to.
With the contract being front loaded he is set to be getting 750k in 2025 and 500k in 26 & 27.

The dogs would prefer to keep him but he is fielding offers from the Saints at the moment.

When has a 22+ year old midfielder who was rarely picked for their current club then moved clubs and had a really big impact? I'm genuinely struggling to think of anyone to have done that.
Paul Couch and Greg Williams -but I get your point, and they were a long time ago (pre draft days)

Not being indexed would actually make that a very reasonable contract

Bugger.

I hope they paid handsomely.

He would have been good in the hoops.

Not a need.

English is the only high level FA on the list that would really fill any need for us.

Exactly why we wouldn't move him unless he absolutely demanded it. If it climbed up towards a Mil, it would potentially be very different.

I cant think why in the world he or st kilda would want each other.
