As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

The only reason Hawk fell off quickly is because he is 36 years old. At 34/35 he was still playing very good football.

I don’t think him “falling off” at 36 years of age is relevant at all.
Yeah Hawkins going on that lo gnis kind of an outlier though. I think the way he played where he used strength and size to protect space meant he could still be threatening even with minimal levels of athleticism.

Not sure what happens to Cameron's game style if he can't use his running capacity

I’d think those older players mentioned would and should all go at seasons end.
Or does create some list spots obviously but without much to trade for we’d be needing to find some free agents or cheap targets to fill those spots with good players from other clubs.
Bailey Smith is one who will likely cost first round pick plus something else.
Who are the other realistic potential targets we could look at:
Ned McHenry
Jarrod Lyons
Jack Martin
Dylan Shiel
Matt Tabenar
Nick Haynes
Mason Wood
Wil Philips
Blake Scott
Tim English
Buku Khamis
Riley Sanders
Jackson Macrae
That’s a pretty eclectic bunch of players but there’s no many stars in there. Haynes or Khamis would allow us to keep playing Stewart in the middle. Sanders would be a good get and has been struggling to find his place in the dogs team but I doubt they’d let him go. The others are all players that might play well for the team or be a bust.

Zero chance we get Sanders.

The whole reason the Dogs traded so heavily to get him in the first place was because they knew Smith was gone. They're not going to suddenly trade both of them to us after doing so.

He might not be getting games now, but Libba & Treloar will be gone, cooked, or phased into new roles within 2 years. He'll get his shot soon enough.

Of that list, Khamis & Bailey Scott are the only two I could see being more than stop gaps for a year or two, and mainly because they allow players to play elsewhere as you mention.

Khamis let's Stewart continue in the midfield, while Scott let's Holmes play full-time inside mid as a partner to Dempsey on the wing, or he plays wing and let's Max play full time half back.

They're the type of moneyball players who could become very good contributors in the Geelong system being coached by Chris Scott, rather than Bevo & ClarKKKo.

On your maybes I like Buku Khamis and Riley Sanders. Neither of whom are coming though 😔

Didn't they originally trade up for Watson only for Hawks to pinch him?

Which we should, Houston will cost more than Bailey. Possible AA this year and contracted.

Bailey has to nominate us first, nothing is official until its coming from him or his agent.
I've heard ITK's from all of Dogs, Cats and Hawks boards all say different things.

There is some really interesting chat gathering pace about Geelong's approach to list management at seasons end.

Some of it seems a bit left field for Geelong (and what we're used to) and involves calling time for a few players. Stanley and Hawkins are a given - and that alone creates cap space. But if the club decides to call time for Tuohy and Duncan and not offer contracts, then it starts to free up some list spots and dollars where I can then start to understand why a few people are telling me that the club will go very hard at some targets. Perhaps add Gary Rohan and Parfitt to that list of outs and it starts to look like a decent refresh.

Haven't got time to work it out, but outside of the obvious outcome - being 6-7 list spots opened up - there's the combined salary cap space with what $$ those names are all on.

A very reliable contact suggested to me earlier today that "if you think Geelong's only big name target is Bailey Smith - think again". I'm trying to get some names but it seems the club is going all in again and won't be relying solely on the draft. Established key forward and experienced big body mid was all I was told.

Theres not enough quality targets on the market this year (in particular no good kpf ooc til next year). But if we are pushing retirements its so we can frontload deals and create a lot of space to hit hard a better FA pool at end 2025-same as we did at the end of 2015.

Yeah, I think some are counting their chickens before they hatch.

We're clearly right in the hunt, and a very reasonable chance to get him, but there is still every chance he goes to Hawks or elsewhere..

I do hope we can get him but far from guaranteed right now.

Fogarty

Big body mid fits with the Nash rumour I heard about earlier. Oliver Wines was another floated around a while back.

I was told no interest in Waterman so wonder who the key forward is?

If you exclude taberner who is D grade and harrison jones there isnt much in the way of kpf on the market this year. Someone like membrey as an FA is as good as there is. Id wait til end 2025.

Was talk about Mason Wood a few weeks ago.

I wouldnt be against mason purely because hes free.

I also wonder if we kick the tyres on bailey scott again (if hes cheap enough).

Yep - this is what we're likely doing..

I would do that-it gives us 12 months to see where neale is at (also whether he signs on again or not). If he looks like hes stagnating then go hard at a kpf then (we will have a lot of cash next year with guys like cuthrie and possibly danger finishing up.

I'm guessing like Stengle, he'd qualify as a FA given he was previously delisted by North?

He's about to turn 31 - but if you get 3 great years like Isaac Smith, worth thinking about..

Oscar Allen is a RFA at the end of next year. Unlikely to move given he's a WA local, but money talks and so does premierships.

Who’s “on the market” is irrelevant. Clubs are more prepared to trade out contracted players now than ever before.

Watch Richmond - they’ll have 3-4 contracted players moved out. Wouldn’t surprise me if we had 1-2 out as well.

Mitch Knevitt may get walked out the front gates to a waiting car
