Need another Irish to replace Tuohy
Makes sense to try get one if we have a stack of late picks... may as well take some elite talent from OS.

So our R1 + Clohesy for Smith?
That seems pretty fair to me. Smith is OOC and coming of an ACL.
No Clohesy has about pick 70 at best as trade value.
It would be 15 + current r2/future 2nd and ted, and we maybe get pick 80 back or something.
I thought Clohesy was playing better footy than Clark in the VFL at the end of the year... I know Clohesy is a bit of a battler type, but he can certainly play a role in a team, he can kick goals, and tackles like a maniac. He's not puny small too.

Clohesy straight swap for Garcia?

With all the talk of this years draft being strong would we consider trading the dogs our future 1st for Smith if they throw in their pick 32 from this year?

I know it’s a risk
Contrary to what you will see written here, clubs are happy to back themselves in not sliding next year. The reluctance to trade future firsts is that it limits your options in the subsequent year’s trade period.

Collingwood’s weak hand this year after trading for Schultz last year is a prime example. They are effectively out of play for any big target this trade period.

So Geelong probably wouldn’t do the deal you suggest there as they want to go into the 2025 trade period with maximum options.

Someone on the dogs board said they asked for SDK as a swap for Baz and we said no, obviously.
That's polite.

Should have been more blunt.

Surely it can be both though right? The risk has a much higher range of outcomes, including increased trade value of the selection.

In theory? Of course.

Would Geelong be worried about losing on the value of the pick? I very much doubt it.

I like Clohesy but he would get a lot more opportunity at the bulldogs than here. The trade would work for all 3 parties.

Depends whether he wants to play midfield full time (which he wont get at the dogs) or is happy to play fwd which he will get there but wont ger here behind our 4 small fwds.

"Battled hard" is being very very kind.... Didn't realise he had relatives on here. Just my opinion buddy, nothing against the guy just don't think he has what we need.
LMFAO.

You go from this:

I'm still struggling to see how people think Neale is a good long term option... That performance in the prelim was one of the worst I have seen from a player.

Hawkins on one leg would have offered more. The bloke can hardly run as well and you murdered in the rebound after the footy hit him in the face instead of his mitts.....

To:

It wasn't just "your opinion".

Neale wasn't great in the prelim, true, but he competed and was far from our worst. And that was off a 9 mark, 2 goal game against Port in the QF.

I actually think he shows some great signs for a very big man who's just 22yo and played just 20 games. He competes well in the air, he takes marks, he's mobile, and he kicks straight.

Of course that's just an opinion too, so here's some data to back up why he deserved his spot:

In his last 9 games (including the PF), Neale has taken 39 marks and kicked 13 goals.

In Hawkins' last 9 games earlier in the year, he took 23 marks and kicked 6 goals.

Even in that "worst performance you have seen from a player", Neale took more marks than Hawk did in 7 of his last 9 games. He had more disposals than Hawk did in 5 of his last 9 games. He kicked the same number of goals (zero) as Hawk did in 5 of his last 9 games.

And here's another stat for you: Neale has kicked 24 goals in his first 20 games. So what did some other notable key forwards do in their first 20 games?
Hawk: 25
Charlie Curnow: 15
Max King: 25
Ben King: 28
Jack Riewoldt: 19

Seems pretty competitive with some pretty big names, wouldn't you say?

Here's yet another stat: at the same age, Hawk played all 3 of our finals (in 2010). How do you think he went? I'll tell you: he kicked ONE goal, total, in those three games. In the prelim against Collingwood, he had 1 mark, 1 kick, 0 goals. Now THAT is a shit game. And while Hawkins was the same age as Neale at the time (22yo), it was actually his 61st game. So he had a full 2 seasons more actual playing experience than Neale does right now.

But Hawk turned out OK in the end, eh?

I say all this not to criticise Hawkins, but to point out that Neale has actually been travelling much better than Hawkins this year, and just as well if not better than Hawkins (and many other gun key forwards) at a similar career stage. He totally deserved his spot, and is well and truly on track.

I wouldn't have expected violence. Laughter yes.

In the unlikely event violence was needed i assume SHocking would just call in AFL headquarters to send some hired goons with umpire Brett Rosebury there to do some explanation of how they are going to get their heads kicked.
Now we're talking.

Hocko on the phone to AFL HQ.

Next minute a well placed phone call from umpires boss to the dogs. Cave or we'll start calling all your hand-passes throws next year.

Looks like it's happening. Josh Barnes just mentioned on the midweek tackle that Cillian Burke from County Kerry is joining us.

News from July 2024.
