Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Free Agency Period

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period

Trade Period Opens: Monday October 7 at 9.00am

I'm not saying this will be the trade.

I'm asking would everyone take it if available?

I would... I do not think the Doggies will though.

Was waiting to see how many people jumped out saying "no way we trade Ted" when really it's a decent deal for us.

It will cost r1 + r2 + ted id say. I would like to keep ted but hes ooc so its not our call and id rather lose him than someone more clearly best 22.

Contrary to what you will see written here, clubs are happy to back themselves in not sliding next year. The reluctance to trade future firsts is that it limits your options in the subsequent year’s trade period.

Collingwood’s weak hand this year after trading for Schultz last year is a prime example. They are effectively out of play for any big target this trade period.

So Geelong probably wouldn’t do the deal you suggest there as they want to go into the 2025 trade period with maximum options.
The rules in trading future picks do change as of next year I'm led to believe CE. Meaning that more flexibility is allowed from next year onwards in order to get deals done.

Rumour on the dogs board about an out of contract geelong player touring their facilities-I would assume it's clohesy purely because the only other ooc players are bews duncan and stanley and i doubt the dogs want them.

I’ve seen it mentioned that according to Krock Clohesy is expected to re-sign

Depends whether he wants to play midfield full time (which he wont get at the dogs) or is happy to play fwd which he will get there but wont ger here behind our 4 small fwds.
I think he's also a bit similar to Clark as a mid too so that won't help his cause here. He's the same pace as Clark, Bruhn, Bowes. I think he would get games at the dogs as a forward, but even with our midfield thin I think he'd be one of the last to get a run and he's better than a last in line player.

Indeed. And when it happens you’d expect clubs to free up a bit because they’ll have more options to cover the Collingwood/Schultz type scenario.

Cat B direct listed after passing through the ND unselected

He was originally but when furphy came in that meant we had 3 cat bs (mullin furphy clohesy) and the limit is 2. So this means either mullin or clohesy was quietly elevated to senior list at end 2023 but the club never announced which one was.

That it's a WTF type of move.

Is it really?

Pretty sure that most who regular watched the VFL this year had Hardie as an obvious delist candidate come seasons end - if he wants to stay on and sign purely with our VFL them, then that would be great for the VFL team, but he really was just a bit meh and his lack of 2-way running was probably a high factor in him not getting a senior debut

Bruhn is nothing like Parfitt.

He might've only got it 10 times but he did use it bloody well. He had the highest disposal efficiency of any player which is insane for an inside mid. Bruhn is a genuinely elite ball user while Parfitt is a complete butcher.

He also had our second highest clearances only 1 behind Danger, more score involvements than Lachie Neale, the same as Holmes and Mannagh. And his defensive work was solid.

He actually wasn't that bad at all. He just didn't get the ball much.

"Elite" is a reach.

I'd say "tidy" would be a fair adjective to describe his ball use but no anything more than that would be over-praising him. He is a lot better than Parfitt though, agree with you there.

Yeah he is going to look really good on our long term injury list

Martin is one I’d be happy to pass on - not sure why there’s the interest in a player who’s spent more time with the teams medical staff over recent years than with his teammates on the field

It’s similar with seeing some suggesting we should look at Preuss who after joing GWS, played 0 senior games in 3 of his 4 seniors systems with them due to injury and hasn’t played at senior level since round 21 2022

Somehow these guys who’ve been delisted by other teams & been battling significant injury concerns, are suddenly some sort of superstars just waiting for the right team to pick them up - don’t get it

You've been able to have 3 category B's with AFL approval for quite a while now, we just as far as I know are the only club actually currently doing it.
