Yeah, but he reckons he is going to Carlton to play with TDK... And that is not possible given their salary cap issues. Sam Walsh anyone.

Carlton couldn't afford both unless they let cerra and a couple of other big money players go. Walsh is FA in 2026 too. Tdk will cost them over a million a year to keep before you even talk sdk.

Our biggest issue isn't cap space imo. We have some names coming off the books and just moved on a considerable amount of coin this off season. Another 17 OOC in 2025 we'd have enough wiggle room to get him over imo.

Biggest issue for us would be actually having the picks to get a trade done. We have 3 NGA kids in 2025 (1 of them looks good, 2 pretty meh) and then a freak F/S in 2026 in Cody Walker (Andrew's boy).

We already traded out our 2025 first rounder this year and with the new changes we'll be lucky to have any real trade capital to play with as we'll have to keep our 2026 and possibly even some of our 2027 picks on matching bids on Cody.

Although I'm sure we'd try and figure something out if he did want to get to the Blues, I just don't think we'd realistically be able to get it done unless he had another down year at the Cats in 2025 and his value plummeted. Be no chance at all if he returned to his 2022 form/trajectory.

Yeah I think if they really want him and he wants them it'll happen. Sure hope it doesn't though

Another strong KPD and an elite small forward are what the Blues need to acquire while Weitering, Cripps, Curnow et al. are in their prime.

Will be interesting to see who they go after before the premiership window closes.

The picks are an issue yes but honestly cap space is more than you think. McKay and curnow are on huge money as is cripps and Walsh and weitering is about to be as well. That's before you even get to cerra who is on big money, Saad and the mid tier guys. There's only so many players on huge money you can have before it screws your cap and tdk will cost huge money to retain plus Carlton will have a bunch of young players needing raises.

Even if you assume McGovern goes Carlton would honestly have to lose a big name to fit tdk and sdk in I think. Sdk also frankly doesn't really address a big hole in Carlton list anyway for what he would cost you-it makes no sense to me.

They have poor kpd stocks. Kemp is more of a third tall and Young is a B grade of the highest order. McGovern is decent but he is now into his early 30's.

Weitering + De Koning would be a brilliant combo for the next 5+ years.

Kemps being playing forward now too.

Weitering
Haynes
McGovern
Young
O'Farrell (freshly drafted)

And then we have some genuine dud train on players fighting it out for the last spot.

SDK would certainly be the 2nd best player in that group upon arrival. But as I said I can't see it being possible with the draft picks we'll have unless we make some trades.

I actually rate Kemp more than most but fair enough. I honestly think Carlton have reasonable stocks at that end. What they desperately need is better small forwards (owies being the best they had is enough said) for example they needed a player like stengle more than they need se koning imo. And they need better run between the arcs although Hollands is improving and jagga Smith might well be that player.

Do you see Kemp as a forward though?

I don't think anyone knows what Kemp is tbh, has talent to play a variety of roles but has weaknesses in all of them. Think that's why we were open to offloading him end of year for the right price.
It's a shame Walshy, if you just brought this kind of energy on the main board we could all cut Chief's revenue in half!

What do we say Mr Meow? Internet buddy truce?

Generally Walshy behaves when he enters a more civilised place and lets his feral side out in the wastelands.

Always a welcome addition when he brings a good attitude.

Yeah hard to know. I was really keen early due to athletic profile but you gotta find a niche to put it work

Main board is fair game campaigners. Gotta keep myself from blowing a gasket at my space cadet coworkers during the day and using Meowbagger as an online punching bag generally does the trick.

I respect the rules of opposition boards though

Yeah, but when you're punching down on main board floggos who probably look like this, is it really worth it?

Not you btw Mr Meow, being a fine upstanding Geelong supporter you probably look like GigaChad or something.

I don't make the rules.

"Please leave us alone and don't come back! I hope you get banned, you troll!" is the Blue-approved line of rhetoric on the main board. We're a bit more thick-skinned and welcoming over here. Enjoy your stay Goaty!

I can see the logic in both being an issue. Has Cook had any luck intorducing a more scaled type of payment there like he had here? And the big amount that every club just gained with the increase in cap… probably only lasts the first oen or two guns that are out of contract. Both OOC at years end so they have choices. Is it possible that another club go after both?Age and profile Id think both would fit Syd and Bris as an example. Brisb have money with no Daniher. One as FA and one with picks. Who really knows. Id say both are reasonably happy at their own clubs but things can change. If both wait a couple of years I could imagine astronomical dollars to play in Tas first team.

The question id like to ask is what role doesn SDek want play Did he honestly like the role of ruck..of did he prefer the backline. In 2023 when he got injured he seem to lose a bit of his marking confidence. but someof his on ball work last year looked promising. Once a couple of injures happen .. id say a lot of players get an awareness that afl footy is not for ever , and the time to make dollars is now. Here or elsewhere id say his next contract will be a good size but could someone else offer him a head turner.?

Since this is the Carlton thread now it will be interesting to see whether TDK can play a bit more forward with Curnow out injured. If he can add that to his bow then he becomes an extremely enticing prospect for us. As a pure ruck he doesn't really move the needle for me at the price but if he could also start to play key forward at a respectable level it would be take my money time time and we could really blow Carlton's cap out of the water on the free agency offer given we will lose a good 3 million from the cap over the next 2 seasons.

Will be interesting to see which draftees make it from the 2024 class, aside Smith ofc. I reckon aside Smith, two others will probably be able to step up, maybe not in year 1, but over the long-term.

Pretty sure it's already been noted that Walsh has no interest in a move to Geelong

Besides, the SDK out rumours have been going on for 6 months with the strongest suggestion that the brothers will unite at a 3rd club
I spotted a Sam Walsh bobble head at a 2nd hand market on the weekend. That’s an omen.

If the brothers want to play together it would make a lot more sense for TDK to move to Geelong than SDK to Carlton. We'd have more cap space and more assets to offer.

We would have more cap space yes but I suppose it depends where the brothers see their greatest chance of success is. I'd be disappointed if we weren't throwing cash at tdk given our ruck issues.

Yeah now that we have Smith, does TDK become an even more valuable commodity than say Zac Butters ? Before he got injured this season he was breaking games apart single handedly.
