Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Draft and Trade Period Key Dates

Oct 17 to Nov 8: Pick swap window
Nov 1 to Nov 8: Delisted free agency period
Nov 20-21: Telstra AFL Draft
Nov 22: Telstra Pre-Season Draft and Rookie Draft

The Caleb Daniel offer is essentially a 10 pick upgrade in the 3rd-2nd round, given the ramifications bidding and matching has on early and late picks. Pick 25 likely gets pushed out to 30, whilst the pick 48 they want back actually does the opposite and comes in.

On the surface if pick 25 was offered for Caleb Daniel of course we'd be silly for knocking it back.

There hasn't actually been an offer for Macrae at this stage.

Why does it matter if 25 is pushed out to 30..The bids are on players you won't even get..

It doesn't matter in isolation, but it matters when you consider that North wanted pick 48 (which would come in to 40) to come with Caleb.

Is the 30th best player in the draft better than the 40th best player in the draft and Caleb Daniel? Probably not, and that's why we would've knocked the offer back.

So Buckley says club's should have the ability to trade players against their will?

Wonder how he would've felt if the Bears had traded him to the Eagles instead of Collingwood, which was his preferred destination?

Edit: 'without their consent' he actually said, if anyone thinks that changes anything......

It would make **** all difference. No club is going to sign a player that doesn't want to be there let alone pay a premium in trade value.

Wasn't there reports Oliver was spotted training?

It's usually the time of the year most players head off and enjoy themselves so was interesting to read (if true).

I guess you can golf and go to the races and train too? Why not have both? Most athletes would.
Probably just jogging past a media camera in the bushes.

Its a lottery.. Look at Humphries he went at the back of the draft and he is better than a lot of first rounders from last year.

At that stage in the draft it is, to get Humphries where you did is just absurdly good talent awareness.

But yeah I just don't really see the point in upgrading a pick in the 40s to one in the early 30s at the expense of a proven and reliable player that may not be a certain starter every week.

I think the benefit for you in potential Daniel and Macrae trades is as much about relatively large salary cap savings for fringe players as much as it's about the pick. But I can see why you're putting up some resistance.

There's the rub. Prepared to waste a pick on a possibility, maybe one with ongoing issues. Then prepared to work and convert a player who's shitty on them for ruining his intended lifestyle.
I don't think so.

I can understand that but the lack of noise from people who IMO would get better information than anything on here
Yes people do get info, but you can’t tell me people involved with the AFL wouldn’t get the same information if not more

Honestly disappointing how quite it's been, I was hoping he was a chance, given all the noise 2 weeks ago, but now it's too quiet so it looks like it's not happening.

Good to see it's not just us that Power and the Dogs are being unreasonable with in trade negotiations:

For those unaware of what this season was like for Daniel:
  • 8 x VFL games, averaging 25.4 disposals, 6.6 tackles & kicked 3.4
  • 16* AFL games. Subbed off once, against us in round 4, and then the starting sub on 7 occasions - so he only started & finished 8 seniors games this season

I've said here that I dont watch a lot of footy. But I do listen and I was surprised Daniel was on the outer.
I've always liked how nippy he is in the back half and seems to make great choices in setting them up through the middle.
So I watched a dogs game.

Unbelievable change in him.
He's either completely devoid of confidence or he is cooked. He needs to move and find out.

His left quadriceps looks super strong!

“Bailey Smith ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his pre-season training in his non-dominant knee. The injury forced him to miss the entire 2024 AFL season.”

24 August 2024
“It was a first ACL tear to his right knee after previously suffering two in his left. But Smith, who was 22 in his last game and will be 24 by his next, said he needed to think long-term.”
Wait he's done 3 ACLs. 😐 P17 is overs.

If Buckley had stayed at Brisbane he would have had 3 flags guaranteed (the three peat) and could have possibly been the Quady had he been in that side.

Sammy… Sammy… Sammy

Again..you choice…Im all for if contracted ..then its up to both player and club and you can hold them if you want. Do what is the best for your club ..and if you want him..then keep him. …

Once uncontracted the club really has very little sway…its why I thought the Dogs could have made out like Bandits… You may have got two R1’s from us last year ..with a bit back… … Maybe you thought you could change his mind..and then BS did his knee

Not sure the accuracy, but I've read reports that Hawthorn offered the Bulldogs a top 10 pick for Smith last year which was rejected - wonder if Baz was open to a move last year
