Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Draft and Trade Period Key Dates

Oct 17 to Nov 8: Pick swap window
Nov 1 to Nov 8: Delisted free agency period
Nov 20-21: Telstra AFL Draft
Nov 22: Telstra Pre-Season Draft and Rookie Draft

Tigers turned Tyrone Vickery pick 29 compo into Shai Bolton with and AA and 2 flags then Shai into 2 first round picks. Not bad from the scum

Richmond fans getting very excited about draft picks.

Then you look through their remaining list and literally the only clearly AFL quality player younger than Taranto (27 by round 1) is Noah Balta. My god do they need to find some quality.

There was only one data point on us beating Brisbane, and the prelim optimism was... optimistic, but far from certain.

In terms of the Smith deal - the number of good out-of-contract players who have had to go through the PSD or ND, you could count on one hand over the last twenty years. Nick Stevens, Luke Ball, Jack Martin and Ben Jacobs are pretty much it, plus Rawlings and Tippett (which were stitch-ups by the clubs involved).
So your point is that it has happened.

Plus Smith doesn't have to go to draft. He could decide to sign a one year deal with the dogs if a trade doesn't happen and try again in one years time.

You've got to hand it to the AFL. The fact that they can stretch this trade period out to ten days with such minimal action is begrudgingly admirable. My productivity has been deplorable.

The trade period should be shorter…should be 5 days … should be three days …. and the afl says… why?

For me …I think if it bugs people then switch off…. although this year really has been like watching Boycott bat...

my only really grown is I love to see the trade period include the draft ….

AFL player on hundreds of thousands a year to play footy with a model girlfriend? No, I don’t feel for Saldo tbh
I personally hate this line of thinking. Being paid well and/or a model girlfriend doesn’t mean he should expect/accept the bashing/bullying/harrasment that happens online. The world was a better place when people couldn’t say/do these things without consequences.

If he plays footy with a model girlfriend maybe we can draft her? (Dad joke)

aka
Wishing this confounded draft would end, time can't go fast enough.

I didn’t say any of that. I said I don’t feel sorry for him

The long term contracts are often ridiculed, but this is a clear benefit to the clubs. There's no way Richmond would be getting 10 and 11 for Bolton, or 6 and 23 for Rioli if they were out of contract.

Which is why the Houston trade was so bad for Port considering he has achieved more than either of those and had 3 years to run on his contract.

How much would we offer melb if Oliver was OOC … but then again .. if he was OOC …Melb get a FA comp pick..we get him for nothing … If given the option and a band 1 comp pick for Melb …P6 or P7 ... id say Oliver would be a t geelong next year for no cost.

Yes, my point is that it has happened, but it's four times in roughly 20 years, so roughly I'd suggest 1 in 25 or so. It's a pretty long, long, long shot.

Smith won't re-sign with the Dogs only to go through this shit again, no way known.

There's been some talk about the value of draft picks, their value in trades for players etc - not sure how many saw this post from CatToTheFuture future which was posted in the Lawson Humphries thread and there's a bit of discussion about this topic
