Gold Coast: The Battle Begins

Hi Trump. Do you have any knowledge as to how the GC is going to support an AFL club? projected memberships, game attendances, Corporate Sponsors etc

Wouldnt have the faintest but I can tell you the phrase " To grow the AFL brand" is part of the AFL strategic plan.

I also have a direct quote from AFL house.

but
if unfortunately we do relocate to gold coast
how many of our melbourne members will stay on board as members?
would be shattereed if we moved beacuse i love to go to the footy every week

OK - I'll bite - what's the quote?

Given that the AFL are trying to run this charade of making this the club's choice, anything which proves the position which we all know they have (it's a done deal as far as they are concerned, and the only choice is whether we make the decision in October or November) - well a quote would be very handy.

No, there isnt, it is set in concrete by the AFL. Yes it will add 2 million to the coffers next season but in the long term your club isnt viable.

North will be on the Gold Coast, 2010 whether you get an extra 6000 members or not.

You are seriously close to a red card buddy. If you have nothing positive or constructive to add, just slink away.

North on the Gold Coast will have 3,000 members, average crowds of less than 10,000, a country standard ground, no sponsors and lose millions every year but everything will be ok because you say we have a direct quote from AFL House.

I feel much better about things.

They will definitely spend up massively big to retain existing members. Just how many they retain, we will have to wait and see.

My guess? 60%.

interesting to see what the gemba survey says about retention of members.

"There will be a team on the Gold Coast by 2010, It's not a hypothetical it is a given"

Simon Lethlean.

[Simon Lethlean has contacted me and has denied ever saying this. Unless you have proof or a media source please don't post rumours like this because it wastes my time. Thank you. Adrian]

For the umpteenth time, who is Simon Lethlean? Is he a cleaner at AFL House?

Manager Business & Legal Affairs @ The AFL.

Not a bad bloke, but just because the AFL want - it doesn't mean they have to get.

They've been trying for years to merge & relocate clubs without much success.

Stand firm and fight the fight. They'll eventually **** off with their tails between their legs and finally turn attention to the true basket case in Melbourne.

Softer target (already have form by voting to merge with Hawthorn).

Have a feeling they'll be ok now that Judd is onboard.

In trouble now.
