Far and away the biggest difference between this game and last year was that the entire midfield, and extended 'small guy' rotation, were willing gut run and repeat sprint in both directions, with and without the ball, into and out of contests, almost until the end of the game - as opposed to the last couple of years where far too many players, some still with the club and some not, decided to pick and choose when they wanted to run and when they didn't.

In other words, Keays suddenly had a lot of friends today, and both he and the side looked a lot better for it. Still a lot of work and some top end drafting to do, but the energy and dynamism is something that can be built on.

There was a chase and tackle in the fourth Qtr against Dangerfield. I couldn't identify the player (I think it was No17 Hamill) but he just didnt give in. It looked like he would lose out but he hug in there. I was so bloody impressed. For me it reflected the whole teams attitude. I didnt expect to see that level of aggression and determination at all but so very very impressed. Now to repeat it next week.
Also, Smithers desperate lunges to fist balls away was outstanding.

Woke up and looked at the final score again.... We still won :$ .... Still in state of shock (in a good way).

(Oh - and I think we almost broke BigFooty last nigth too :$)

The best aspect - there was clearly buy in from the whole team. You can't buy that.

Also, the rest of the squad was there and got to experience the jubilation.
Guys like Pedlar, Thilthorpe, Cook, Borlase, Worrell, Gollant, Newchurch, Hately get to experience what the future can be like, makes it easier for them to see what we are building towards. Guys like Crouch, Fogarty, Jones, Himmelberg, if you want your spot back, you better train the house down and buy in to what Nicks is selling. Awesome for the fans to have something to hold on to early as well for the season.

The effort was outstadding. Some of the youngsters such as Hamil and Butts looked right at home. Fantastic. Oh and Danger must be suspended.

As a opposition fan I was sooo impressed by Schoenberg yesterday. Every possession he has was just impactful and damaging. Kind of reminds me of a young Lachie Neale

this was 10 seconds after being run down by Hamil. He’s angry, frustrated and wants to take it out on the opposition.

he’s not even looking at Kelly as he flies in recklessly intent on revenge

he’s toast.
I hope this fact gets pointed out during the week. Already hearing how there was no intent. Clearly the red mist was flying.

That’s 2 games in a row now that’s he’s knocked out an opposition defender in the first half. Has form.

The most exciting thing yesterday is that Berry and Rowe made an instant impact. No slow introduction to the game, no "bring them on later to see how they go", no trying to hide them in some abstract role. Berry was in the guts, and Rowe was at the feet of Tex/Frampton. A credit to them as individuals but also the coaches to actually allow them to use their strengths.

Yep. He was at his pouty worst after being unable to shrug off a skinny kid ... It seems so easy when he sees Dusty do it?

Also, can someone post a pic of danger at impact? If I hear one more commentator try and say he didn't leave the ground I'm gonna pop!

Good post.

Re: "Keays suddenly had a lot of friends today", this was one of the big changes I noticed, even from only
8 minutes of highlights.
Players took possession and were willing to run-and-carry, even only for a step or two while they looked ahead
for a man on-the-lead (3 of Tex's goals), or to handball or kick to someone's advantage (Schoenberg kicking deep for Tex
-- I think -- to mark behind his opponent). The blind, panicky bombing has almost gone entirely.

The two-way running you mentioned is key and something Richmond do very well, and not necessarily to get
the ball, but to shepherd/block or just create an option that distracts an opponent. It's something the Crows
did really well in 2017 and Richmond have taken it to a higher level.
