Got a free ride form the umps in the last quarter - still shat the bed. Ball movement was deplorable including our skills in the 4th. Dumb plays and low IQ plays from so many players while Collingwood were brave in the last. Class won out in the end - we have too many triers, not enough players that can execute skills under pressure. Rankine's kick in the last minute or 2 to hit up Fog was what we needed and is why we payed pick 5 for him. We need more players like that otherwise we will go no where. Starts a the draft too - Hamish's fetish for triers rather than outright talented, good skills is what will be the downfall of our rebuild.

Good:

Defence was immense

Bad:

Some low IQ moments, particularly at the finish.

Also I think Nicks got outcoached. Dropping the spare back sounds good in theory but they just got us on the outside and from the perimeter so Dawson had no opportunity to impact.

Match their extra around the contest next time!

Ugly:

Goalkicking obviously

BUT:

We will have GWS and Collingwood days AND we will have Carlton days. It's up to us how many of each we have.

Long story short:

We have been in every game this season. We weren't winning the flag but are gaining valuable experience still.

The future IS bright.

You can't be on top against the best side and be 3.10 at half time and 6.15 at three quarter time. The loss was quite simple - we didn't capitalise when it was our turn, and they had enough midfield power to lift. Felt like Pies were in third gear until they switched it on. The best sides can do that, and the Pies are a pretty special team.

We're a side with a lot of young talent that has improved but we're not good yet. I think it'll come in the future but we need more matches and maturity under pressure.

And more in the midfield. Way more.

Pretty good game.
Annoying to lose to them by a point two times in a row now is it.

Feel we were out coached a bit. They adjusted to the conditions better, knew it was a slippery territory game and did soccers and knockons.
We couldve had a massive advantage in the territory battle if Nicks just got ROB who was clearly dominating to keep belting it forward gaining territory that way. That's one of the big coaching failures. We don't change up much, they did, we still think that only the players make the difference, that the coaches box can't.

Thilthorpe's contested marking was great.
Jones had a great game.
Umpiring was ok in the end, they'd r*ped us early but given several helpful calls in the last quarter I'll call it even.

Still a lack of composure due to inexperience.
Missed a lot of gettable shots on goal.

That’s shattering

Hopefully it isn’t as shattering for the players. A GMHBA win would repair the damage, but R9-11 are must wins now

Not actually that upset to be honest. Kick straight we win handily, against one of the best teams in the comp. Won one last week we shouldn’t have, lost one this week we shouldn’t have. Swings and roundabouts.

If Nicks learns who does and doesn’t stand up under the pressure when it counts most than it’s worth the short term pain of the loss.
Yeah I’m a bit the same. Some dumb coaching in the last as well. Dawson just has to stay around the ball.
Milera mate we were not wearing the black and white jumpers.

Hopefully we learn from it and not go the other way and lose any confidence we have been building.

Probably not a good time to be posting.
FURIOUS.

Every Crows player that missed an easy shot for goal (Rankine the easiest, on the run 15m out) should hang their head in shame, and there were plenty of them.
I'd like a count of how many Crow kicks went straight to opposition chests, every quarter.

There was not one clutch moment, but many of them and the Crows failed in most of them.

Nicks will keep his job, but the Crows are still a long way from contending.
Many in here will call it an "honorable loss" but it's a crap result for a side that cannot put good opposition away, even after leading all day until the last minute.

The Rankine miss was definitely the worst.

Pies would have been licking their lips seeing us drop Dawson out of the midfield. That's a desperation move of a team trying to save a game, not win it.

Awful umpiring nearly robbed Collingwood of a win.

Jones was good.
ROB good
Sloane tried his guts out in the last to get us there
Keays was good - and so often ignored when he was there to kick the easy goal

Many bad

Milera should be traded. I admit I have been questioning his worth since early on, but nothing has convinced me that he is anything more than a soft player who doesn’t do any damage. Even worse his skills such as they were have disappeared. See if we can con a team to take him.

Murphy and Schoenberg should be in the SANFL.

Butts is so far a one year wonder

Tex should not go to Geelong

Rachele is good but goes for long stretches without a touch

Rankine did just one good thing. The rest of the time he might have well be on the bench.

Didn’t deserve to win. No one from about the middle of the second quarter thought we would win. We’ve all seen footy for too long to know you can’t miss so many easy ones and still win.
